| Homestead Built For Two Weyr, High Reaches Weyr The passageway leads between the two couches, the walls narrowing in until it's nothing but a corridor with darkness at the far end. A doorway leads off in each direction, the two rooms almost identical as far as size and shape are concerned: roughly oval, with aged tapestries covering raw stone almost the entire way around the room. They're easily large enough to house living quarters and bedroom each: to have both to one person would be pure luxury. Both rooms have doors with locks, as though occupants of this double weyr live together, but desire absolute privacy nonetheless. Sleep is not a usual thing for Edyis, insomnia has its perks however. Though the pair on elevator duty may give her a dirty look for needing a lift at this particular hour and in this particular weather, She doesn't stop until she's knocking on R'hin's door, since it's too damn cold to get the lockpicks out, and also because it's polite not to interrupt when people may have visitors. Adjusting the satchel over shoulder she knocks loudly again. Leiventh doesn't even move when the dragon lands on his ledge, and only the barely perceptible glimmer of whirling eye even indicates he's aware. It may be late, but R'hin tends to keep late hours. His, "Come in," sounds awake enough, and when she opens the door she'll find a rush of warm air flowing over her from the merrily burning hearth. He's seated at the table, a map of the northern continent spread across the surface, various pieces dropped in places -- Tillek, High Reaches Hold, and even Ista. Edyis doesn't hesitate to shed the snowy flight jacket closing the door behind her. "I forgot how nasty the winters are here, the poor pair on elevator duty looked about ready to skin me alive." She comments settling the jacket somewhere where it won't drip, and moving to the hearth to warm herself. "Brought wine, don't ask where I got it, but it's good stuff." Taking a moment to warm herself, glancing over at the maps. "Looks like I picked a good time. Is that informant placement, or ships?" She stands with her back to the fire as she digs in the satchel for the wine bottles and her notebook. "Monaco spoiled you, back to a soft, squishy holder," is R'hin's amused opinion, barely looking up from his perusal of the maps, expression distant and thoughtful. It's only when she mentions wine that he actually looks up, with an interested grin, "Oh? I won't ask. Let's be civil and have glasses, shall we?" he rises, since she's getting warm, and collects a couple to bring near to her. "I ran out of tokens for ships," he says, as if this a great and terrible incident. "I prefer to think of it as a much deserved vacation after Nabol." Edyis states succinctly, holding up the bottles allowing him to decide between two good vintages of red and white. "So you bought time with the ships in High Reaches hold, but that still doesn't solve the pirate problem, and so far A'rist isn't talking - well at least he's not telling me about it. He wants to talk to you, directly." Feigning innocence, and putting the rejected bottle in its proper place in the cupboard. "Of course you may not need him, how long do you think until those ships are ready?" "Does he?" There's a note in R'hin's voice that is hard to place, as he offers up the glasses for filling after nodding towards the white. "Did he ask you to ask me that?" Indirectly, as it were. "I think they're about seaworthy, last time time we flew near -- but K'del would know the when." "He asked me because he knows I work with Savannah and didn't want to put me in a bad position by discussing things that he shouldn't know anything about. He also knows that Savannah has my loyalty above all else." She points out with twist of expression that may be something between confusion and something else. "Otherwise he would have sought you directly long before this point." She probably hasn't thought too terribly hard about the implications of that. "And the sea craft hall still reports no new disappearances." Taking her glass once it's poured and moving to study the map more intently. A grunt answers her initial response, perhaps because R'hin's taking the time to take a gulp from his glass. "How much did you tell him?" he asks, curiously. "Yes, that's something," he concedes, following her to the table; reaching over he takes one of the heavy pieces and places it off Tillek's coast. "He knows that Savannah was why I was in Monaco, and that I did rumor control in Tillek. I haven't divulged anything more than that. He doesn't think the way most people do, so the usual methods weren't working. I improvised, and used parts of the truth instead. I admit I hadn't expected it to work that well, but he responds better to extensions of trust." She frowns, "So it's possible that they stopped for some reason, or were forced to stop how long does it take to build a single ship?" "I think it's more the practical concerns of it being winter, and there being less ships out and about. I imagine they're hold up somewhere warm down south for the winter," R'hin says, ever practical, as he shifts that piece from Tillek's coast to somewhere down near Southern. "It buys time." Edyis nods, sipping her wine, dark eyes shifting to her mentor for a moment. The question however remains unasked. "So realistically the first thaws will be the only time when any of the ships can move without taking incredible risks given the seasonal weather?" Mulling over that thought, a moment. "Why not bait them? You'll have the ships in spring, there's enough time. Savannah's got enough contacts made you could station a rider on each ship and use them as a signaling relay, then have Glacier or one of the other heavy wings fly in when they show their colors?" "Bait them?" R'hin echoes, shaking his head slowly. "You could, but it's a lot of resources on a chance. They're not taking every ship, and if you spend all the Weyr's resources on this, a lot falls by the way side." He considers the map, nudges the ship closer towards Monaco. "I can suggest it to K'del."
A moment of hesitation. "No," the bronzerider finally says. "Quite the opposite. You've... come a long way. It's worth reflecting on." There's a hint of R'hin's normal humor as he knocks the ship piece over. "And Gretvyn was worried about you."
Edyis smiles, warm and genuine before she immediately frowns. "Think Bristia would let me crash her couch instead? It's sharding cold." With a knowing sort of smile, R'hin says, "I think you can stay here instead. Bristia and I have some things to go over later." Though one could easily infer he's not talking about work. Edyis nods grateful not to have to brave the blizzard, and true to her request passes out on the couch shortly after finishing off the wine, though not perhaps without anyone noticing she's stuffed her ears with cotton wool. It's probably the best sleep she's had all winter. |
