The Things N'thei Does Not Do
RL Date: 19 June, 2009
Who: N'thei
Involves: High Reaches Weyr
Type: Vignette
When: Day 22, Month 13, Turn 19 (Interval 10)
Mentions: A'son/Mentions, I'daur/Mentions, Leova/Mentions, Rajiv/Mentions

There were a lot of things N'thei did not do these days. He did not punch that damn weyrling in the head, for all he deserved it. He did not let Wyaeth chase Vrianth, did not make the mistake of sticking around the Reaches when it came to that, did not plan on risking the hard-won battle to keep his dragon from chasing that damn green. He did not feel like being in a flight, like losing it, and he sure as hell did not feel like winning it-- on the off chance that Wyaeth had suddenly gotten good at chasing.

He did not watch them hang that man. He did not think it was right, killing a man for making a living, killing a man for exacting a revenge he was entitled to.

He did not tell anyone that he felt this way. He did not believe anyone would ask him. He did not intend telling them even if they did, since what difference did it make?

He did not point out that he, himself, had been no better than a thief, that A'son had been no better than a thief. He did not point out that I'daur had admitted to a crime nearly identical to the one for which they killed a man: master-minding a string of thefts. He did not point out that I'daur hadn't actually done this thing, but that was an old wound, and one that had stopped bothering him so much.

He did not dwell on the thought of the kid they let out of the mines, or on the fact that the kid had also been a thief, but he was alive and well-- probably somewhat worse for the wear, but obviously not doing as badly as some.

He did not have a drink.

He did want one, though.
