| It took a while, but they talked about the hard things. Didn't always agree, but at least they talked. Now she rests in the curve of his arm, her cheek against the low tenor vibration of his telling about the day, the wing, a joke that gets her smiling. Almost like they were all weyrlings again. Her thoughts drift. When her eyes open again, the angle of the sun has changed. "He'll be home soon," he says as she straightens. She knows that's not certainty in his voice. Hopes it's hope, and not just more frustration. But she doesn't listen too closely, just in case. |
