The night the exiles arrived at the Weyr, they may have been woken up by quite the commotion. Most people know Evie as Jaques' level-headed, friendly wife, but sometime during that first night, she woke up sobbing, and things spiraled downhill from there. The guards got involved, and the midwife and even Jaques were all arguing noisily. Something was wrong with the baby, and the guards wanted to take Evie away. Evie, Jaques, and the midwife all three refused to go anywhere without each other.

Eventually, all three left with one of the guards. They returned a day later, minus Evie's baby, barely two months along. None of the exiles are quite sure what happened, except that it was something to do with the seamonsters who 'rescued' them.

End verdict: dragons kill babies.
