Rhus Bud Egg
Deep reds and bright pinks mingle upon this soft-pointed egg, its colors so invitingly warm and bright as to stand out against almost any backdrop, much less the dun sands. The deepest is a dark carmine that sweeps across the shell, pooling just to one side of its conical tip. Wispy streaks of lighter shades reach for that pool, never quite succeeding but never quitting either. Rose and fuchsia and even a touch of white, they're soft and downy enough to make the egg seem like just a bit of fluff... but it only looks that way.
Rhus Bud Egg shudders in place as its occupant makes its last stand in the fight for freedom. A dark talon finally breaks its surface, slicing away the shell to leave Red-Crested Centurion Bronze Hatchling standing amongst the shards.
Red-Crested Centurion Bronze Hatchling
While his bronze coloring is vivid and eye-catching, his shape and build are a study in flaws -his jaw too broad, shoulders too muscled, gangly limbs and knobby joints -- his proportions askew just enough to give a sense of his body being off-kilter. No blemishes mark this dragon's lustrous hide, cast in antique metal. Above a sharply tapered muzzle, his wide set headknobs are brushed with a hint of crimson that intensifies along the fanfare ridges of his neck. That brilliant tone takes on a tinge of orange as it reaches towards the tip of his tail and his underside is muted by a wash of amber. Bright, brushed wingspars hold semi-translucent sails dotted with softer shades, as if certain in places the shimmer of the color has been worn away with age. Hidden on the underside of his wings, the clear scarlet reappears in stunning contrast.
Temperament
Dasarth believes he was born to be a leader - which is, perhaps, not the same thing as actually being born to lead. He has a firm conviction about his beliefs, however well-formed or half-baked they may be, and he is sure to let others know where he stands on all issues by asserting his thoughts and viewpoints in such a proud and certain manner that it may seem more like an order than simple opinion. "I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it." - Pablo Picasso
During weyrlinghood Dasarth's ambition may lead to some turbulent times as he questions authority and tries to rush things to completion. He'll be eager to get on to the next lesson if only for the simple reason that it provides him with a new experience. Part of his belief that he is destined for big things lends him a certain diligence in gleaning knowledge or understanding of the world around him. In his youth, this rush to understand things will likely come out as sweeping statements and broad, decisive generalizations, which might not be quite on the mark since he's taken only the barest pause to consider. But never fear, Rome wasn't built in a day and while his need to take risks and make a gamble or two may just find you both with more trouble that you bargained for, he's always learning and honing his instincts. A side effect of his self-importance comes out in his love of beauty and opulence. Here his artistic side shines more brightly as he contemplates which colors are best suited to his looks or whether brass is more fitting than gold. He expresses a flair for your wardrobe and the way he wants /you/ to dress, not to mention how he wants his own surroundings to be decorated. After all, they should probably match the greatness of /him/, shouldn't they? Shouldn't you? A trip to the stores anyone? "The roots of true achievement lie in the will to become the best that you can become." - Harold Taylor
Dasarth believes that to live up to his full potential, he must be able to lead and inspire by example and thus he tends to be a bit of a stick in the mud, rather obsessed with how perfect he is and how perfect he will be if he does /this/ and how perfect everyone else would be if they just do the same. You may find yourself needing to cajole him from his curmudgeon tendencies. Try telling him how the activity will provide new insight; that might just do the trick. However, what he lacks in physical nimbleness, due in part to his sheer size, he makes up for in sharp wit. Just don't be too surprised when his commentary is more cutting than might be necessary. He calls it as he sees it, and that's fine by him because he is absolutely certain he's right. And he's not afraid to call you on it when he catches you trying to charm him into something he doesn't want to do. Dasarth lacks that special touch of charisma and social grace that you covet in yourself, W'ton, and, sadly perhaps, he's not going to be one to succumb to your magnetic personality. « Must you do that all the time? Really, W'ton, do you think she enjoys listening to all that babble of yours. » Gruff and rather blunt in all matters, this bronze most certainly will not have a problem sharing his opinion. « Give all the talk a rest and it just might be good for something sometime. » All this aside, you are his and he regards you with a fair bit of patience. You're wonderful, after all, but you'll need some time to catch up to him. "He rides in the game like heavy cavalry getting into position for the assault. Trots about, keenly watchful, biding his time, a master of tactics and strategy." - Patrick Thompson
His eagerness to acquire knowledge will follow him throughout his life, plotting and planning, imagining himself a master pulling the right strings. It only serves to strengthen his resolve. He'll put this plotting and planning to work when it comes time for flights. He may not be the fastest in flight or the most agile in the sky, but that will never deter him. Rather, he'll be content to hang back in relative silence, watching and waiting for the perfect time to strike, observing his competition and trying to play their own weaknesses against them. Of course once he's decided the time is right to move, Dasarth will proceed to show off that which makes him worthy of the catch and things may just turn a bit more aggressive than some might have expected. He'll work to display that hidden red brilliance beneath his wings and announce his presence in the metaphorical battle. Should such a display result in a win, you can bet that he'll be quick to make a fuss about it. Does everyone know he won? Does everyone know how fantastic he is? Well, they'd better. And if not, he'll happily and smugly rub it in their faces and never once pause to see the reaction. Should his win result in a clutch, Dasarth will be watching those eggs just as closely and protectively as his mate. Though nothing is too good for the mother of his precious eggs, even she may not wholly escape his critical eye. She might even get a few unnecessary pointers from her partner in egg-tending. "I'll walk where my own nature would be leading. It vexes me to choose another guide." - Emily Bronte
He may be curt, over-confident and self-obsessed, but it shouldn't be forgotten that in all things Dasarth is just seeking the betterment of himself and all around him. He sees all the glorious possibilities and wants only to make them a reality for everyone to enjoy. Well, mostly for himself, but everyone else will benefit from it too. And every once in a while, he'll realize that he might not /always/ be so right or so perfect as he believes and become fretful. But with your faith in him, and his faith in you, he'll buck up again. It will be your job to remind him of the feelings of those around him and the importance of charm, just as it is his job to provide you with a sense of importance and that unflagging confidence that you are the only one for him. He chose you, after all, and he thinks he's pretty darn great.
Public Impression Message
Red-Crested Centurion Bronze suddenly darts towards the line of candidates, launching the attack he's been planning since he finally broke free of his shell. The final assault is something less violent than might perhaps have been expected as the bronze settles himself just as suddenly in front of a tall, dark skinned young man, giving him a hard nudge at the knees with his muzzle.
Private Impression Message
The dry heat of the sands suddenly seems to be heavy with humidity. A dark shadow rushes over your mind, muddying your thoughts. A feeling of anxiety presses in, foreshadowing something yet to come, only to be forced by away a confidence that's not quite wholly your own. Just as you try to make sense of all this, a clash of ringing steel reverberates off the walls. Do you taste... blood? No, no. That's not quite it, though the distinctive metallic flavor of iron lingers. « You. Yes, you. » The rough-edged voice enters your thoughts, demanding your attention. « You are mine now. You are my W'ton and I am your Dasarth, and we will do great things. »
Mindvoice
Brown, bronze and gray flood the mindvoice of your Dasarth, the muted spectrum bringing to mind a world seen through its reflection on metal. And like the triumph of such metal, his excitement comes with splashes of glaring red, splatters and flecks blood. But behind the certain staccato of a soldier's orders is a voice touched with innate refinement. His words are not accompanied by color alone. A drumming beat strengthens with his concentration like the marching footsteps of his mental army amassing in preparation and distress can come with the clash and clatter of swords. In the heights of enjoyment, distant bugles might even add their brassy tones. And always, though less noticeable as you grow accustomed to it, there is the persistent tang of iron on your tongue whenever you feel his mental touch.
Dragon Inspirations
Our theme for this hatching was birds. In looking for inspiration I happened across this picture [1] of the Northern Royal Flycatcher which reminded me of the Roman centurion. The flycatcher, while small, is known to take on much larger intruders - even crows and hawks that are several times their size! This to me played in nicely with your want for that bold, arrogant and eccentric sort of guy. So it's a combination of these two (the flycatcher and the centurion) which inspired Dasarth.
Egg Inspiration: The sumac is a small flowering tree. Its bright red flowers form in a conical shaped cluster which was the inspiration for this egg.
Name Meaning
Dasarth's name is drawn from Caesar/Ghaysar and combines the D that you asked for also loosely drawing from Roman/Centurion themes from the Decurion's title.
