Make It-! Egg
Reminiscent of a gather gown, sisal fabric skirts the flared bottom of this symmetrically ovular egg, where overlapping hues of girlish rose and sky blues swish and swirl above the sand submerged delicate white base. Faintly raised lines sketch an hourglass shape on the otherwise smooth looking surface, buffered on both sides by two spots of white, light-like in its brilliance, which then burst into two warring shades. The battle of colors is inconclusive as splatters of pink threaten to dominate the blue, while splotches of blue encroach upon pink, leaving a messy divide down the center.
Still rocking slightly from its dizzying twirl, Make It-! Egg finally comes to rest balanced delicately on its flared bottom. With sounds of ripping and rending, the messy divide tears in two. Both halves of the shell - one pink and one blue - falls away. Revealed is a dark, glowering brown hatchling, looking for all intents and purposes to have been caught in some nefarious act.
Brash Brigadoon Brown
Seasoned mahogany crafts the diminutive length of this brash and bold brown's hide, its rugged coloring as inconsistent as paint peeling and flaking off a wall. Patches of sun-faded brown only serve to highlight his smaller physique, the shadows along untried muscles brought into sharper relief by the uneven, weathered coloring. A stubby snout leads up to cragged eyeridges, a bridge above small, suspicion-filled eyes. From there, neckridges dot his thick neck like barnacles, cascading across his back and on to disappear along a rudder of a tail, too short for its body. While the sails of his wide wings billow over him, net-like in their lighter veining, his stocky frame still keeps close to the ground, anchored by stumpy hind legs that give him a swaggering gait.
Temperament
Wroth will appear to be the epitome of a brigand to be feared and spoken of with awe. His brash words and crusty demeanor are the mediums by which he'll portray himself as deserving of such infamous respect. He'll talk the talk and swagger the walk. It's all a front -- a sham; for those who take the time to know him best, will find a heart of true gold. Hidden beneath the spurious posturing and brooding glares is a dragon at odds with what he projects and what he is. Torn between the need to present the image of tough to the world, he'll show his softer, more genteel side to you and those he trusts. Your clothing will be of great importance to him and he'll constantly give you advice and tips on how you should dress. Beware however, of his penchant for ruffles.
From the moment his shell cracks open he'll try to round up his clutchsibs and make them his crew', and will continue trying to command them to do his bidding throughout weyrlinghood. He'll try the same with you too, « C'mon you lily livered seadog! Put more shoulder into it! Stop being such a mopsy! » A battle to dominate. Who will win? You, or him? You'll need to be strong and stand your ground at first, often butting heads in a battle of wills. He'll insist on trying to be the leader in everything, from first to eat a whole carcass on his own, (likely to his detriment) to wanting to be the first wingleader (in fact he'll insist), right through to egging you on to try flying whether he's ready to or not -- just to be first. Just to appear to be seen as the alpha male of his siblings. He'll want the best couch, best portions of meat and best oiling job done on his hide. All, again, just to establish his place in the pecking order.
But be careful with him for he is not all he appears to be. Wroth is also going to confuse you. Beneath all his bravado and showmanship, he is intelligent, wise, warm and caring - sides of him not often seen and never on open display. At his core he has a deep and abiding love for both his crew' and you, « Your emotions give you away, E'dre, you must learn to control them. » will be his way of letting on his own way of being. It's in those quiet moments, when it's just the two of you, that you'll meet the gentleman he truly is at heart. Where he'll take design ideas from your head and enthusiastically offer his thoughts on them, where just moments before he'd loudly determined only pansies show any interest in the making of clothes.
As he enters adulthood, you will have hopefully reached an understanding of who Wroth is. Not much will have changed outwardly. He'll still always loudly exhibit his rationalizing that he's the one to be in charge through use of scowling looks and idle threat « Give me your herdbeast, or I muddy your hide. » Who knows if he'd even carry them out? His posturing is convincing enough most times. Strutting about; chest puffed out with self-importance, crusty and snappy in action and speech. Other dragons and people new to him will always be viewed with dark suspicion, where he'll run them through an interrogation-style firing of questions rather than hold conversation « State your business and don't lie. Everyone tries lying. » whether this be the truth or not.
Wroth will try to chase every flight available to him, viewing a conquest as further proof of his prowess as a true dragon. It will take all within your power to hold him back from doing so, that is if you even can. Gold of course will be considered the ultimate booty. Just as rough and brash in the air as he is on the ground, he'll try to cheat his way to the prize, unabashed about shouldering the competition out of the way. But, to the owner of the glowing tail he chases, he will croon of her beauty, praise her glowing dance in the sky, wooing and courting like a debonair suitor. It's all about the prize and afterward, his attentions, if any, will be curt, only barely acknowledging that momentary show of passion, or weakness as he sees it.
Ahh, this is where Wroth truly shines, for he is a dragon that loves a good fight. Brave in the face of danger his courage knows no bounds, always ready and willing to jump into the fray. Following a One for all and all for one' philosophy, this is where his fierce protection and strong organizational skills of others will be shown in high display. No matter his size, he is truly an airship of the skies, approaching thread with an All canons' blazing theory. It's just as well he's brown, for he'll insist on fighting right on to the bitter end. For all his perceived bullying tactics, Wroth will make a splendid leader in the air, his presence commanding, others naturally falling to following him boldly into battle mode, « Ashmyth! Hard to port. », or « Masoth! Two degrees on the starboard, tack now! »
Public Impression Message
Rather than spending his time traipsing about the sands from candidate to candidate, Brash Brigadoon Brown has remained where he was. Glowering from the center of his shell torn asunder, eyes whirling red picking over what is available to him, he launches himself forward without warning. The first few steps a pantomime of a gather dance until he realizes hes being watched. Oops! Embarrassing! Snarl! What ya scurvey dogs looking at?! Crabby, hungry and impatient to claim his rider he stalks in his swaggering manner over to a slim, bird-like man with dark brown hair and aristocratic nose, then reaches to shove his stubby snout hard into his stomach.
Private Impression Message
There's a rumbling somewhere in the distance of your conscientiousness, warning of a storm approaching. Suddenly a flash of lightning illuminates all your senses into one blinding moment of clarity, « Look lively E'dre! Captain on deck! » and suddenly he's there, in your head, « Name's Wroth. ». His presence whipping through your mind and consuming you as winds in a squall lay claim to a ship. Thunder cracks in, « Stop lollygagging about and let's get this show on the road! You need to feed me, I'm hungry! » the very slightest hint of imploring raining through at the end.
Mindvoice
There's no tentative touch or gentle easing of his mind into yours. Thunder rumbling in the distance is the only warning you or any other will get before he whips in on storm lashed winds, lightning flashing blindingly against the black velvet of night. He demands to be heard! His observations are succinct, never saying more than he has to. However, in those moments of just the two of you or with the very rare occurrence of another of his kind that he comes to trust, there will be the sense of seas at calm, sails that swell with gentle summer breezes and the tang of salt in the air.
Itchyspots
Those patches of hide that appear as if paint flaking will be what irritate him the most, make sure to keep them well oiled. In particular, one positioned right next to his third barnacle-like neck ridge and another at the juncture of wing to body on his left side. He'll bellow, demand and even give in to whiny petitioning to get you to soothe them for him.
Dragon Inspirations
You asked for something dark and not too pleasant in demeanor as well as unsightly and small in appearance. With this in mind inspiration was drawn from the book-to-movie story of Stardust - http://www.stardustmovie.com
Wroth's personality has been based on the darker side of Captain Shakespeare, as displayed as his 'public face'. A few touches of the Captain's little known true self have been added here and there for you to have fun with.
His physical description comes from the ship, Caspartine itself. Captained by Shakespeare and his motley crew of pirates in their quest to steal and collect lightning for sale on the black market.
The storms necessary to produce such lightning the inspiration for his mindvoice.
Egg Inspiration: The ultimate battle of pink or blue where Flora and Merryweather from Disney's Sleeping Beauty, can't settle on one color for Aurora's dress.
