Deceitful Demonic Shadows Egg

Shades of deep red wash over the shell of this egg, the thick crimson looking like it could ooze onto the sands at any moment. Flickers of black figures dance and mingle across the blood red shell, mere glimmers hinting at more ominous things contained within. Are they figures, or deceiving shadows? Some seem to take the shape of dragons or humans, but a simple shift of light makes them vanish back into the fire of the egg. It's one of the larger eggs on the sands and has the uncanny ability to take up more space than it needs, as if it was trying to steal the sands from the others in the clutch.

The stillness is shattered. The Deceitful Demonic Shadows Egg splits into two jagged halves, red-and-black bisected with a muted crunch as a hatchling-sharp talon breaks the surface. The stickiness of the shell leaves it clinging a moment longer, leaves bits of it stuck to the hide of a parched brown dragonet that stands with uncanny agility amid the ruin of his egg.

Rain-Dappled Desert Brown

Lean physique dappled with gray, this brown dragonet may be as awkward as any at birth, but the potential grace with which he'll move in adulthood is etched on every parched line of his body. Although long in length, he's narrow in form with a scraggy ranginess that elongates the look of limbs already ungainly from birth so that his wings seem ridiculously oversized and his legs look comically small, skinny-but-promising. His hide is an unadorned landscape of parched earth-brown, little to break up a seemingly endless vista of cloud-shadowed desert. Brindles of gray blend seamlessly into his baked-clay coloration, the cool undertones difficult to discern as he's newly hatched and still glistening but becoming more pronounced as he dries- the first splatter of raindrops soaking into a parched landscape, the liquid gray filtered into the cracked sand.

Temperament

Contemplation without silence, wisdom without righteousness, power without ego. Bremuth is a serene dragon, one so full of quiet certainty that he could go through his whole life never knowing a moment of self-doubt. He trusts himself implicitly, and he trusts that you will lay your confidence in him as well. After all, Bremuth chose you, selected you, and now he will refine you into the dragonrider you should be, into the man you are destined to become.

Bremuth may take some getting used to with his quiet surety and calm self-confidence. As a weyrling dragon, he is eager to learn yet shows nothing of self-doubt for the lessons where he may falter. In his calm way, he simply /knows/ how to be a dragon and knows that learning certain things may take time; « It will come with patience, L'vae. »

Duty-bound, Bremuth expects you will be as well, and he exerts his influence in quiet ways. He will never encourage you toward disobedience, never express doubt or question at the orders of his superiors even when he knows that they are wrong. In fact, Bremuth will never tell anyone they are wrong, only quietly wait until they realize it for themselves. You might surprise an odd thought in him from time to time, a curious mental half-smile as if he isn't so much doing what he's told as indulging the foolish person that gave the order. Questioned, he explains with nothing but a vision of placidity, the feeling rather than the image of all things serene.

That's another matter that may take getting used to; Bremuth doesn't 'talk' a lot, not like other dragons. There are dragons that use words and dragons that use images, but he seldom uses either. For him, everything is the impression of something- a wash of blue, a glimpse of mirror-sheen pond water, and the perfect feeling of undisturbed serenity.

As Bremuth reaches maturity, the placid confidence of him crystallizes. He begins even more to exert his will onto yours. He would have you without ego, with the calm to work toward making life better without struggling to change what cannot be altered. At times, this could be downright infuriating; while you may strive toward higher aspirations, may know impatience or desire or impetuosity, he is comfortable letting things come as they may. Your wingleader may trouble you, an order from a goldrider may irritate you, but Bremuth will never pity you or commiserate with you. To him, it is his place, your place, to find your way through life with as much calm acceptance as you can.

While introspection and calm may seem to detach Bremuth from the world, while it may seem that he would have you separate from the doings of the ambitious or foolish, the truth is quite another matter. He sees a great deal, watches the world and occasionally comments on it; « I have noticed that Kaylith's rider commands great respect though she is not the Weyrleader. She has risen above the ceiling of her rank. » A remark coupled with a great sense of benevolent approval, as though Bremuth is in such a position to offer commendations to the Weyrsecond.

Bremuth may be the odd dragon that grows more jovial as he matures. He has a playful side buried under the thick veneer of tranquility. While he would never play a prank or rumble with laughter, he would happily watch someone trip themselves on their own two feet and remark to you that they ought to have watched where they were going. Certainly, Bremuth would never kill herdbeasts for indiscriminate fun, but he's not completely above touching down momentarily in the middle of the herd just to watch them scatter, just so he can tell you that they were not surprised by him but by their own ignorance to their surroundings.

A reserved lover, you may have a luxury when it comes to Bremuth's flights- it will always be easy for you to inhibit this brown, to prevent lust from getting the better of him. He chases with a particular penchant for the fastest greens, but he's indifferent right up to the moment that he begins blooding, could walk away with nothing but a gentle nudge from you. When he mates, whether out of obligation or lingering attraction, he will pay homage to his conquests for weeks or months after the fact. Usually, it's nothing more than a caressing thought for her. Occasionally, particularly should he ever fly a queen, he will be steadfastly devoted to her until his next victory.

Bremuth's truest prowess comes only in flight. Agility and grace are inherent. He may seem awkward on the ground, but it only serves to make him more proficient in the air. Should he fight thread, he does so with his customary detachment but with an uncanny precision. He learns maneuvers flawlessly after only a single practice, never to embellish them, always to complete them with seamless perfection. He fights with calculating movement, never so much as a spare beat of his wings, everything designed to further the single-minded goal: destruction of thread.

Public Impression Message

Calm certainty has lead the Rain-Dappled Desert Brown to his choice. The oversized wings that trailed in the sand since birth flicker with contained excitement, the rainbow eyes that whirled with flecks of reddened hunger now turn upward with adoration in the facets. Satori: he has made his choice in a pale man of messy hair and hazel eyes.

Private Impression Message

There will never be another moment like this, when everything becomes clear for an instant, when the world still exists but ceases to matter and everything is refined into the rainbow eyes that reflect your own image in countless facets. You feel rather than hear the voice in your mind, feel the placid presence of this calm creature that knows your soul. Bremuth understands every step you have ever taken in your life, knows why you go astray and what leads you back. Bremuth-? « I am. L'vae, we have many roads to travel together. » The calm voice sounds softly in your thoughts, wedded so perfectly to the brown dragonet.

Mindvoice

Few words, ample understanding. Bremuth speaks very little with his soft-but-sure voice, yet he conveys a wealth of meaning, clarity despite his roundabout approach. He implies his intentions with the nuances of thought and emotion, shares his feelings openly and concisely. The warmth of contentment, the clipped shatter of disappointment, the abrasive ice of anger, these are the tools of Bremuth's speech. When he does put his voice to words, they're methodical, slow, and even-tenored, but it's obvious that he's uncomfortable with this way of communicating- his mindvoice feels... accented, something foreign and unnatural to him.

Itchyspots

All along Bremuth's wide wingbones, the itchies crop up and just won't quit. The 'sails themselves don't seem nearly as prone to patchy skin as the leading edge, as the windward side of his wings. The worst, though! The worst place for this brown is the bald dome of his headknobs, which will need to be oiled more than once while he's growing and daily when he reaches adulthood. The rest of his hide will eventually be as soft and supple as any adult dragon's, but the top of his head- oh, how it will always pester him! Never one to complain, you'll be hard-pressed to catch him telling you about this problem, so it's best to keep an eye on the areas as soon as you identify them as oil-needy.

Dragon Inspirations

"I would rather be a ghost, drifting by your side as a condemned soul, than enter heaven without you. Because of your love, I will never be a lonely spirit." -Li Mu Bai from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

You said you wanted a nurturing influence that would push Louvaen to be his own man, and Li Mu Bai is one of the first things that came to mind. As the film's hero, Li Mu Bai attempts to take the rebellious Jen under his wing to train her in the Wudan school of martial arts. Tolerant of her headstrong youth, he views Jen as a promising pupil who needs proper training. He's portrayed as a man on the verge of a peaceful retirement, a master who has eschewed any desire for glory, material wealth, and even love in his devotion as a monk.

Egg Inspiration: This egg is based on the play "Dr. Faustus" by Christopher Marlowe. The title character makes a deal with the devil to obtain earthly magical power-but all the magic is based on illusion, and his soul is doomed to hell thanks to his greed.
