Cowflop Egg
It's a meadow's worth of egg, the large shell a lush summery green that's gentle rather than garish or glowing, the sort of place that should be safe to sprawl out and enjoy a respite from the surrounding heat. It even has clumps of pink and yellow adorning it here and there, little bell-shaped dots clustered like so many wildflowers, and a winding path of darker green that rounds the entire egg like an endless underground stream. Of course, there's also a fresh-looking pile of brown that nestles within a curve of the path, just waiting for an unwary foot.
The punch of talons from within punctuates the shell of the Cowflop Egg, sharp little tips sweeping downward to slice the egg open. Shaking off debris and more ooze, the Sensual Serenity Green takes a single tentative yet poised step forward, regally regarding those who await her on the sands with bright inquisitiveness held in the yellow-tinged facets of her eyes.
Sensual Serenity Green
A wash of pale, tea-green sisal clothes this poised dragon in fluid lines, the loveliest of distractions from the subtle capability beneath. The most jaded artist might find inspiration in the way she wears her wings, as ready to fan shut in evocative reproof as to flutter to their widest span, inviting only those winds she chooses to have their way with her translucent sails. Those wingsails have a shimmer to them when unveiled, embroidered with subtly darker green where ichor curves just beneath the surface, tipped with the same silvery shade that adorns the talons of strong yet graceful paws. Though her proportions are harmonious, from the delicate cup of her muzzle to the sensual curve of her tail, she owes nothing to corsetry but only to the fine bones of her heritage combined with the way she carries herself: elegant yet earthy, aware of her own worth, complete to the bright, charismatic wit displayed in those large rainbowed eyes.
Temperament
There's a sweet open-mindedness to your Jeibeth, a loving acceptance of many ways of life, many ways of being, as long as they lead to happiness and fulfillment for those who follow them. You are no exception within her view of the world: you are who you are, every bit of you; and she loves you just as you are. In youth, Jeibeth looks to you for understanding of the wider world, curious about how it all works, how it all comes together. As she matures, though, the tables might turn, as she becomes the one to shelter you from your own fears, your own concerns about what your desires may mean.
Unfailingly loyal, Jeibeth is a subtle, encouraging presence in the back of your mind through all of the ups and downs of life. She has a cool palm to soothe your fevered forehead when things get to be too much, and the warmth of her love to protect you from any bumps in the road you might find along the way. But though she may often be the one to calm and steady you, this doesn't mean that she's passive. On the contrary, there's a deep well of passion within Jeibeth, one that may both fascinate and, at times, stump you. She cares so very much, you see, and will have to learn to temper those deeper emotions with self-control-things that she may, in fact, learn from you.
Open-minded, curious and politely inquisitive, Jeibeth has a dedication to learning, and her eagerness to become better may sometimes get the better of her. She can suffer from moments of klutziness as she tries too hard to do well. Your open-hearted Jeibeth can also be very animated about things when they mean a lot to her, and this could be an area where she needs guidance and reining in from you. « But B'tal, it's just not /right/ that Xadovith's rider got punished and Zhikath's didn't if they were /both/ pulling the same prank! ». Injustice, as she perceives it, is an especially sore point with Jeibeth, and it may be hard for her to swallow the idea that sometimes, rank just wins and the Weyrlingmaster's word is law, even if the word being passed down just doesn't make sense to her. She might find a ready ally in Isforaith then, though their methods of revolution will differ dramatically: she's a quieter, more subtle influence for the better.
Though she adores you and is perceptive and sensitive about others and their needs, abilities, and personalities, Jeibeth won't be the clingy sort. She's very accepting of your connections with others and will even encourage you to develop some of those more. « Oh, B'tal. You can't only hang out with /me/. You need /people/ too. Here, let's work through how you'll talk to Z'yi. » She wants you to have connections, friends, lovers even, because she has a strong belief that the right kind of human contact will make you happy. Jeibeth is also the sort who really likes company of her own, whetherdragon or human; though her early focus will be on you.
Jeibeth's clutchmates will be of great interest to her-their joys, their woes-and she might gain a reputation as an attentive listener within the group. You might find her often snuggled up with one of her siblings, both seeking out and offering closeness and comfort, physical and mental. She makes friends easily through this ability to listen and absorb another's troubles as well as her desire to provide thoughtful words of advice. As a highly social creature, Jeibeth will happily join in on the bonding within the group, be it in play time or the back and forth of dragonet communication. She's smart, bright, and capable of playful teasing with her siblings, perhaps particularly enjoying a little verbal sparring with one such as Xadovith, who possesses a strong, dry sense of humor of his own.
As Jeibeth matures, her self-control will improve, smoothing out the edges where her eagerness and inner passion might have made her overt and impulsive as a dragonet. Passion becomes tempered by poise and grace, redirected into proper outlets, unless something happens to bring it to the fore. Then her weyrling klutziness may reappear in endearing ways. Jeibeth will always bolster you, lovingly accept you for who you are and what you've become together. When things start to build up and you might be twisting yourself up in knots, her advice will be to try to let it go and let life happen a little: « My B'tal, this is just a moment in time. Stand aside and let it happen. »
She'll also have learned the ins and outs of etiquette, both dragon and human, through her interactions with others over time. She'll gain a strong sense of when things are appropriate- « That man is picking his teeth in front of us. Surely this is not the right place or time for such things. » Etiquette serves a role in helping to smooth out personal interactions, and she'll nudge you to use it to your advantage when you can, to help make things easier for you and to help you overcome some of your awkward moments.
A surprisingly able flier, Jeibeth tends towards the strategic and subtle over brute force or even the over acrobatics of most smaller dragons. She's always graceful and deliberate in her actions, and this translates to her flying as well. Watching her shift through a formation might almost remind one of a stately dance rather than a changing of the guard. If Thread still fell, the fact that she has nerves of steel might come through more, but you may still grasp this in rope drills and flaming exercises. It's not that Jeibeth is fearless, because the dangers are very real and she understands this well, but she faces up to those dangers in spite of her fear. « We must not let fear control us, B'tal. There is no shame in feeling fear, only in letting it dictate our actions, » she'll tell you. You may find that Jeibeth become the calm core within your wing, along with others of similar temperament; she will be the mainstays who help to keep others of more irascible or flighty temper steady throughout the exercise of the day.
Jeibeth is an engaging personality, very comfortable with speaking to others, either through the lens of etiquette or through the warm-hearted charm that is her signature. When not glowing, she still draws others to her through the pleasantness of her personality and the understanding that she tends to display. A practiced conversationalist, Jeibeth reaches out to get to know other people, interested in forging connections and relationships, be they friendships or something with that little something more. Those who charm her in return, or who seem like they might benefit from her company, are willingly joined for the space of a few minutes or hours, for simple companionship or a little bit of sensual snuggling. « Oh, Rasiyoth, it's such a pleasure to sit with you and admire the wings flying above the bowl. Your hide looks particularly fine today. May I rest my head against your shoulder? Oh, thank you. »
While she may have learned control as she matured, flights are an arena where she finds it more than all right to cut loose. Sensual and open-hearted, Jeibeth will consider all, but ultimately will be won by the one who offers the most to appeal to her sense of rightness and what she needs in that moment. Conversely, she may at times respond to those who are the neediest, sensing somehow who of her chasers might have a particular need for closeness and release.
Though wily fliers of all stripes may ultimately impress her, typically she'll be drawn to those who exhibit gentlemanly behavior, strength of character, or a tangible code of honor. Bullies don't appeal to her much, though she might be drawn in by trying to understand their behavior, and by the hope of finding some core of truth about that type of dragon that is worth rewarding. As open and accepting as she is, it is possible to win her heart, and should a particular dragon succeed in courting her, she may prove to be a very loyal mate, tending to choose that male over others-though all's fair in love and war, as all flights are.
Public Impression Message
Dainty steps come to a halt as the Sensual Serenity Green senses something, maybe the someone she's been looking for. Her head turns this way and that and she takes a visible breath, re-arranging her wings and tilting her chin just /so/ before she glides on up to a young man with scruffy brown hair and a withdrawn air. A little bump in the sand causes a misstep, though, and instead of the elegant arrival she likely planned, the pale-hued green goes careening forward and bumps right into her chosen weyrling with a light smack of her muzzle to his chin.
Private Impression Message
The lights of the hatching grounds and the wash of heat retreat as if a hand just drew a curtain across the windows to lessen the touch of the sun. Somewhere in the distance, the quiet rustle of sisal sounds, coming closer to wind itself around you in silky folds. All along your skin, endless sensual softness replaces any less pleasant sensations from standing on your own two feet in all that heat and tension. Gentle, perfumed breath washes over your face like a kiss, a blessing and a benediction before a low, warm alto speaks in reassuring tones. « Ahh, B'tal, it's been so long that I've been waiting for you. And yet, here we are now. I am Jeibeth, and it's such a pleasure to meet you face to -- » And that's about when she loses her balance, and the lovely pale green who was so composed a moment before is smacking right into you, with enough force to make you see literal stars as her muzzle connects with your chin. « Oh! I am /so/ sorry! So sorry. You must help me learn to keep my balance. »
Mindvoice
Jeibeth's voice is soothing, easy on the 'ears', often able to bring calm and quiet to a troubled mind. Dulcet alto tones, warm and cultured, infuse her words when she uses them. Her imagery is vibrant, rich with color and the touch of lush sounds. Her mind tends to feel like a cozy, well-appointed, candle-lit room, rich with the scent of tea, of sandalwood and patchouli incense, the quite ding of copper chimes and the warmth of draped red and gold fabrics.
Itchyspots
The pads of her paws and the sweep of Jeibeth's shoulders will often be the itchiest areas on her body, sometimes require an extra coating of oil or more spot application when not doing a full oiling. And while they might not itch any more than the rest of her, Jeibeth may sometimes wish to have a little extra care taken with her delicate wings-less a point of vanity than taking simple joy in the ritual of such togetherness with you.
Dragon Inspiration
You requested a "Firefly"-inspired dragon, which fit nicely into our theme of rebels and outlaws, as well as an accepting, protective personality. Both serene and passionate, sophisticated and feisty, Inara Serra combines the elegance of a highly paid courtesan with intelligence, wit, charisma, and a rebellious streak that sees her joining up with Captain Malcolm Reynolds' motley crew. In many ways the mother of the ship, Inara's gentle guidance and very open mind-as well as her sparks when facing off with Mal-embody the spirit that we felt you were looking for based on your requests and descriptions of what Betegal might need in a dragon partner. Her name is derived from the Mandarin word 'je,' meaning 'older sister.'
Egg Inspiration: Even the loveliest of meadows can have a surprise in wait, especially if cows roam there too. Of course, that's just the more obvious danger: cowflop is also a nickname for the beautiful but poisonous foxglove.
