| Outer Infirmary, Telgar Weyr The large cavern appropriated for this room needed little embellishing. Large enough to house those few dragons who might be too injured to treat outside in the bustle of after-Fall or some other rare accident, it has two stone couches at one end, with permanent alcoves carved into the walls near them, ready to serve as beds for riders. No instrument tables or supplies are set near the couches, healers having learned the hard way how injured dragons sometimes thrash. One closed cabinet close-to and shielded by a screen holds the thin reeds for wing tears, and other surgery supplies. A row of cupboards and counters hold the other healing necessaries. A basin and a large fireplace lie in the room's center. Business goes on as calmly as it ever does in an infirmary. Drudges and weyrchildren with assigned chores move in and out through the passageways, keeping the fire stoked and warm, and attending to the cleanliness of the area. A carved outcropping curves out towards the bowl, while a similar doorway, shielded by thick tapestry, leads towards the inner infirmary. A long tunnel leads towards the inner cavern, thick enough to shield the noise. "And this is the outer infirmary," explains a tall, dark healer, who leads Madilla in from the inner infirmary, waving his hand around for emphasis. It's a quiet night - not many patients, not much for a visiting apprentice to help out with, and the man seems to be struggling. "Where the dragonhealers work. Healers don't work on the dragons, not unless they've done extra training. But we make sure it's kept well stocked." Madilla holds back, eyeing the big room with some consternation, though it's relative emptiness makes it not so terribly impressive, really. The healer hands her a basket of supplies, suggesting, "Why don't you see if anything needs filling up - over there. I'll be at the desk, in the other room, if you need me." On the heels of the exiting healer, another male face enters the the infirmary. Coming in from the inner caverns, Daegan arrives, dressed for sleep - a loose pair of grey sleep-pants and a white tank-top, his hair still visibly damp. He carries in one hand a small green ceramic jar with a fitted lid, common for some kinds of oils to be kept in. He heads for the very area where Madilla has been instructed to work - and if he were paying more attention he might have noticed that its a familiar face tending to the fillings. But he's not. So he approaches blithely unaware of the situation he's about to step into. "Move it." He instructs to the girl's back as he reaches from behind her around to grab at one of the containers. Faranth forbid he could be polite about it. "You shouldn't just help yours--" begins Madilla, having barely reached her destination, the basket suspended at her hip. She turns, as she speaks, and it's then that she makes the discovery of the person to whom she's speaking - "DAEGAN! You didn't answer my letter. Did you get it? How are you doing?" Her free hand, which had been reaching in to the basket, drops to her side, as she beams at her former fellow apprentice. In utter surprise at having found himself directly behind Madilla of all people as he reaches around her, her turning and his recognition combined is enough to challenge his balance and bring him stumbling a step forward which awkwardly brings faces all too close and lips meeting - Daegan's now learning to respond instinctively. Its a teeny tiny peck, and wholly unintended, but oh how things could be misconstrued. "Ahh!" He yelps as he pulls his mouth away from hers and jumps a step back. "What in Faranth's name are -you- doing here? You're supposed to be-- back-- there! At Healer!" The matter of the letter is neglected for the moment. Madilla, though obviously as surprised by this kiss as by the last one, lifts her free hand, as if to move to touch Daegan - only he pulls away again, and it drops, rather dumbly, towards her side. Her cheeks flush pink, and she looks pleased, though the pleasure is obscenely outweighed by the amusement. "I'm here on a study visit, of course," she tells him, matter-of-fact to the end, reaching into the basket to begin stocking the shelf, though her attention is turned back towards the candidate. "Gratifying to know that you've missed me, even if you can't be bothered responding to my letter. Honestly, I didn't think you'd miss me /that/ much, though. Sweet, but." "What?! I-!? No!" Is all Daegan is able to splutter in denial of her ideas that he missed her that much or that the kiss was at all intentional on his part. He glances briefly between the jar in his hand and those she's stocking, then at Madilla, and finally back to the jar. "Not worth it." He states aloud, and without another word, least of all a kind word, the candidate is turning and stalking back the way he came and out of the infirmary. Madilla's brows raise, and, for a moment, she looks disappointed, but the candidate stalking away, in the end, earns only a shrug, as she goes back to her work. Boys! |
