All that dancing and drinking does have a tendency to have one with a need to fulfill faster than one might get to an actual latrine. H'vier certainly couldn't be blamed if he didn't see the other 'Reaches rider until he's turning to move back in, because K'zin wasn't standing where there was light to be seen. He's still shifting his laces into place when he steps into view. They must've seen each other, of course, on the dance floor, in passing, but certainly not speaking. But now? Here? In this dim place,half way from where they were to where they're going, the younger bronzerider offers his greeting, "H'vier. Enjoying the gather?"
Seeing another Reachian rider at a gather is a bit different from seeing one now. And H'vier clearly wasn't expecting it. He doesn't quite jump, but he pauses long enough to suggest he's surprised. "Well enough," is his answer as he looks past K'zin in the direction he'd be heading if he weren't paused here to be polite. He's so polite.
"You know, there was a time we got along without blackmail," K'zin says almost thoughtfully. "If I'd known letting you fuck me was going to change all that so drastically," like they were buddies! "I might not've done it." Fortunately for everyone, the younger bronzerider isn't speaking loudly and his words don't seem to be designed to draw the attention of anyone - even if there were anyone around to hear them.
"Did we?" H'vier, perhaps, doesn't recall that getting along very well. Perhaps because it mostly consisted of limited interaction of a generally not unfriendly nature. "Keep your voice down," even though it already is. "You shouldn't've done it. I'm not like that. So if you're expecting more, you can go sniffing around somewhere else."
That makes K'zin laugh, all of it. "As it happens, I'm spoken for tonight," perhaps by one of the many attractive girls he's been dancing with tonight, not that he seems to be favoring any one partner over the rest. "And if I were looking for a good time, I wouldn't come to you. You're not as good as the rumors would have me believing. Mores the pity." The younger man adds, "And you're too old, so your dick is safe from the wanton pleasures of my mouth." He's amused, so amused.
It's bad enough that they've done things outside of what H'vier would usually consider acceptable circumstances. It's worse that he's being provoked with what they've done. The older bronzerider has gotten more tense, and the look he's giving K'zin would cause the younger man great pain if looks were capable of doing such things. H'vier doesn't say anything, in the end, but he doesn't move to leave, either. He just glares at the other bronzerider.
"What?" With the glaring! "Were you hoping deep down that I'd ask you for another go so you could investigate your forbidden fantasies? How you survive in a Weyr with all that sexual tension built up, I might wonder til the end of my days," if it were actually in any way important to him. K'zin has a problem. He likes baiting men. It's why he gets in fights, when he does. Why he ends up in unexpected beds, more rarely. He's probing for H'vier's buttons. Which one can he press next?
"I'm starting to think you like the idea of getting hit," says H'vier, more calmly than he really looks like he ought to be able to manage right now, judging by the just darker color his blood pressure is turning him.
"Whatever gets blood pumping," K'zin answers with an impish grin. "I'm up for all kinds of things." He doesn't make the mistake of looking away, but he does hook his thumbs into his pockets, "Don't feel like you have to stay on my account."
The way H'vier moves is slow, oddly casual, taking a step toward K'zin and then another. He's not expecting the other bronzerider to give ground and he'll end up close if the younger man stays put. "If you aren't interested, stop fucking with me, kid. I don't think you'll like me very much when I lose my temper."
"Do you want me to want you, H'vier?" K'zin asks with a coolly arched brow at the slightly taller man. "You don't want to fight me. Not because you couldn't win," he reaches out a hand to grasp the man's bicep lightly, "But because it would hurt along the way. Might even ugly you up a little." His eyes flick away from the arm to the bronzerider's face, hand already moving to drop away.
"If you think I'm worried about getting hurt, about my face getting busted, you're even dumber than I thought you were." H'vier doesn't react much to the way K'zin touches his arm, but once he starts drawing away, the larger man steps into him, his own hand coming up to press at the younger man's chest. "You wouldn't bait me if you didn't want me. Is this how you get off?"
"Correction," K'zin offers, still grinning, "I wouldn't bait you if I wasn't okay having you. Surely you haven't actively wanted every woman that you've gotten off with. And can you really blame me for wanting to see what you'd do?" Without the flight, presumably. "And I don't think you're worried about getting hurt, but pain is generally a deterrent for most sane people." He points that out gingerly.
Sane. Nice key word there, K'zin. H'vier's jaw is tight as he considers the other bronzerider intensely. That he's torn about what he's considering is obvious enough. But, in the end, his hand draws back and H'vier starts to turn away back toward the gather. That's where both of them are safe from doing anything particularly stupid.
There's laughter at H'vier's back. Of course there is. It's not derisive though, but cheerful and genuinely mirthful. It is interesting to see what happens. The younger bronzerider doesn't follow closely, but he does follow, to rejoin companion for the evening, the one it didn't seem like he was with because he and the other good looking man with a Telgari bronzerider's knot have been dancing with other partners all evening, only coming back together with their various pretty partners to their common table for drinks and to exchange a few words. It all seems innocent enough! This is a Hold gather after all! Wouldn't do to seem unseemly here. }}
