| Your location's current time: 0:37 on day 28, month 12, Turn 59, of the Tenth Pass. It is a winter night. You land on Xiabeth's ledge. You jump down Leiventh's side to the ground, the dragon's sparkling eyes watching closely. Starlight Above Ledge (Kali)(#5304RJh) As an uppermost weyr, the ledge here has an incredible view. All aspects, save straight down, can be seen from this rocky edge. The lake has incredible clarity, and the Star Stones almost feel level to this wide windy room. The stone is almost soft, a volcanic leaving that was cooled over a long time. The result leaves much of the floor and ledge almost polished smooth while the walls are pitted with red bubbles in red stone. Being one of the uppermost ledges gives this one room an unbelievable open air feeling. A large couch is positioned here facing the wide open space beyond, and someone has left a folding cot with blankets and a pillow nearby. As the farther wall disappears into the inner caverns a series randomly collected and mounted driftwood hooks hang for placing straps and coats. Contents: Kali Leiventh Xiabeth Obvious exits: Inner Weyr Up It's been some time since the large cinnamon bronze was seen in the skies of Igen Weyr, though Leiventh's familiar enough with the watchdragons that his greeting is automatic, a low rumble in response to the challenge. The 'Reachian dragon spirals down, a query of the same watchdragon altering his path towards one of the ledges halfway down the bowl. Leiventh lands neatly, with a flicker of wings and a low rumble of greeting, his rider pulling off his helmet and peering around for the occupants. Xiabeth looks up when the large bronze lands on her ledge with no warning. But she issues a soft croon as oposed to a challenge. At the noise on the ledge, a head pokes around the side of her screen. "R'hin?" she asks, suprised, but recognizing the pair. In the safety of her own weyr she feels it's ok to greet him as a friend and not a weyrleader and somewhere in the back of her head she hopes it's ok. "R'hin!" she says, having answered her own question. "What a wonderful suprise!" she says, stepping around the screen. She's dressed a bit more lightly today, a long dress flowing across her features. "Good day to pick too." she adds. "Only had morning lessons, the rest of the day was given to us." she smiles. "I was just relaxing." she explains, talkative this evening apparently. R'hin's dressed for both the winter 'Reachian weather and the cold of between, in contrast to his host. He slides down from Leiventh's side only as Kali's voice calls out his name, grin curling his lips upwards as he shucks off his goggles and gloves, setting them inside Leiventh's saddlebags. He begins unbuttoning his flying jacket, but stops as Kali comes into view, pale eyes flickering over her. "It's nice to see you. Leiventh," he smiles, unapologetic for the unannounced arrival, "Queried the watchdragon, who said you were here. I heard you were at the hatching?" Kali smiles shyly at the young weyrleader, obviously pleased at the unanounced visit. Xiabeth, for her part, decides the bronze is handsome enough to share her sun spot with a view and croons a welcome to him again, shifting, showing him there is room for his bulk next to her. She notices the flicker and her cheeks color, "It's nice to see you too, R'hin." she says softly. "It's ok." she says of the watchdragon, "I like having a place to get visitors." a shy smile again, "Aye... I was there. It... was interesting." she says cautiously. Leiventh, for his part, didn't seem concerned that his arrival would be unwelcome, which probably says a lot. Xiabeth's invitation is accepted, and he settles down close to her, companionable enough, with his normal statuesque posture. The blush doesn't go unnoticed, and it only serves to deepen R'hin's grin. "I hadn't heard you'd graduated, else I'd have brought a bottle of wine to share. I'm glad you made it - though disappointed I didn't get a chance to speak to you. I spent most of the night caught up with dignitaries. Not the most enjoyable aspect of the evening," he explains as he finishes unbuckling his jacket, shrugging free of it and draping it over his shoulder, as eyes rove around the weyr. "Nice," he says, approvingly, though fairly swiftly returns to the topic at hand, querying: "Interesting?" Kali shakes her head. "We haven't graduated completely yet, but we got our weyrs. All that's really left is getting tapped." she explains. "And don't you worry about me getting wine. I have a few nice bottles actually." another of those shy little smiles. They seem to be feeding off one another and his grin makes her blush a shade darker. "It's even more amazing inside." she offers, though not exactly inviting him inside yet. "Aye... interesting... see... B'yan... he... well right before the hatching..." she chews her lip. "Dassah is my sister. But I didn't find out until the morning of the hatching. That combined with B'yan...well... I'm sure you're just thrilled with that...even if I did win a mark betting he'd impress bronze... but let's not talk about him... he helped me find her... now we're both kinda... wondering... soo... that's what I ment by the hatching was interesting..." Pale eyes slight on the greenrider throughout her seemingly hesitant explanation, the Weyrleader's smile gentle, though eyes perhaps guarded. "Dassah is your sister?" R'hin says, with a furrow of brow. "You're from the 'Reaches, I thought? And she's from Southern?" There's a slight lessening of smile at the mention of B'yan, and the Weyrleader seems inclined to agree with Kali's wish not to talk of the bronze weyrling. "I haven't spoken to her since the hatching, I'm hoping she's inclined to stay at the 'Reaches." Kali nods. "She is... by my father... some big disaster between her mum and my da and they both went running in different directions... or something like that..." she shrugs. "And from what I gather she has no reason to go anywhere else. I think she'll be happy there." a warm smile to R'hin, implying perhaps he might be part of that reason. "Would... would you like to see the inside?" she offers another light blush touching her cheeks. "Interesting." It's no coincidence that R'hin uses the exact word Kali used to describe the situation. That smile elicits a slight tip of his head, as if he's attempting to interpret it. The latter query, however, distracts him as he responds with a low-throated chuckle, "Certainly. I'd love to." He glances over his shoulder; Leiventh is still as he is given to, eyes half lidded, to all appearances fast asleep. "He's more partial to travelling outside the Weyr nowadays." Kali nods. "Exactly." she says simply to his response of the situation. She steps towards the screen, glances over her shoulder to be sure he is following her, and ducks behind it. Her movement, still that slow grace the girl is known for, the flowing sundress not hurting that impression at all. Kali heads into the inner weyr. Kali has left. You head into the inner weyr. Starlight Above Weyr (Kali)(#5300RJh) The passage between the two rooms is only that by name for it really is quite large. A dragon could pass into the rider's living spaces with no trouble at all, and only a filmy gauze hangs between front and back keeping fliers from seeing everything. The wide and airy trend continues here, where the room sweeps about in all directions in this airy loft. That sense is even stronger when a glance is made at the ceiling. By the mended cracks, sometime in this weyr's past the ceiling had fallen, but instead of moving out some ingeniously inventive mind smoothed the edges of the created hole then added a pully system. It gave the place a wide skylight that could be closed in incliment weather. Rain avoids coming in, though occasionally water will leak through in strong weather, and the weyr is sometimes a bit cold through the winter, but it is never too hot even in the worst days of the desert. A bed sits beneath the skylight with no footboard or headboard - the dreamer can sleep in any direction. A round table completes the set off to the side. To the back of the weyr is an all purpose table, slightly stained in ink but sturdy with several chairs around it. Nooks are carved into the soft stone surface near that table for odds and ends. +view is available. Contents: Kali Obvious exits: LEdge R'hin doesn't appear to mind in the least that Kali leads the way through, though his attention - and gaze - appear to be more on the greenrider than their surroundings as they head through. However, the odd set up of the weyr soon attracts his attention, and he's eyeing the skylight with something akin to wariness. Kali walks to the far side of the room without turning around. When she gets to the desk, she rests her hands on the back of the chair before whirling, with her arms wide open (sending the flair of the skirt twirling). "Isn't it wonderful?" she asks with a smile as wide as her face. "They even found a way for me to see the stars at night." she says, pointing up at the skylight, not noticing the wary look. She seems not to have noticed him looking at her, or at least she managed to mask it before turning about. "Don't you--" R'hin begins, then pauses. "Someone actually lived here? During 'fall?" He edges closer, half leaning on the bed to examine the contraption a little closer. "Doesn't it get wet?" He gestures towards the bed. Despite Kali's enthusiasm he doesn't seem apt to muster any himself. Kali grins. "Yes." she says simply. "I think there's a piece of stone up there that can be moved and placed over the skylight during a fall." she explains, "But for the everyday, that works well." she looks over at him. "You're at Igen R'hin, it doesn't rain too much here." she smiles. "And I can suffer a little wet if it lets me see the stars at night." she says softly. "Don't you like looking at the stars?" she asks, flopping down on the bed and looking up at the night sky. "Look." she points at something out the window in the ceiling, "I like trying to make shapes out of them." she says, tracing her finger in various different directions. "Ah," is R'hin's faint response, but he's old enough to remember 'fall, and the idea still seems to disturb him. Her reminder of them being at Igen earns a twitch of lips, the bronzerider confessing, "I'd forgotten. It's been raining pretty constantly at High Reaches the last few days." While Kali points at the stars, he straightens, giving a faint little smile, "I don't tend to get much time to look at the stars, these days. Much weighs on my mind. How are you finding... being a rider?" Kali drops her hand into the pool of hair around her head. "You should take the time to sometime, R'hin." she smiles up at him for a moment before a blush yet again colors her cheeks. "I like it... now that I have freedom again... I actually really like it." she sighs softly. "It's still odd, having her in my head all the time, but I think I'd be lost if I ever lost her." eyes dart to his face though she doesn't move from he position, knees hanging off the edge of the bed, the rest of her layed out on part of it. It seems as if R'hin might be asking in search of a particular answer, for Kali's response earns a thoughtful nod, a hint of disappointment in his expression, fleeting as it is. "Freedom, hm?" he echoes, a tad blandly. As to the latter, he glances towards the ledge, expression softening marginally, answering absently, "Yes, that's one thing we have in common. Some fare better than others in that regard, though." He doesn't seem apt to discuss the stars, nor finding time, glancing back to Kali and her sprawled position with a tip of head. Kali shrugs, causing a pile of hair to tumble down across her shoulder. "To explore the world... to... enjoy people's company again..." the second said with a blush and a downward look of her eyes. She closes her eyes as she thinks of the dragon and smiles a something that passes between the rider and dragon, causing a deeper blush to her cheeks. She turns her head to the side, though it hardly is a way to hide from one still standing up. "And that, to you, is freedom?" R'hin asks, voice oddly intent. This time, although he takes note of the blush, it doesn't elicit a smile; instead, he seems rather puzzled. "What are you doing, Kali?" he finally asks. Kali shrugs. "Perhaps. I dunno. Freedom to go where I want when I want and with whomever I want. Yes. It is." his question gets a confused look. "Excuse me?" she asks back, "What do you mean what am I doing?" she sits up and glances over at him, her look still completely not understanding his question. Inscrutable, level look is offered in turn, R'hin's earlier ease of manner gone. "Nevermind," he says, abruptly, exhaling slowly as voice softens to deliver the words, "You've changed. I should have expected it, but... I'm not entirely sure it's for the better." Kali frowns and a leg curls up to her chest. "I'm not sure I understand what you mean..." she says softly, still looking at him, though her expression is slightly hurt now. "How have I changed R'hin?" she presses. She wraps an arm around the knee and seems to be trying to hide behind it. "No, you wouldn't," R'hin responds, almost regretfully. At her query, his hands lift, holding them with palms outwards, "Ah, no. I'm not going there. I'd like to consider you a friend, Kali. You ask for truth, but you don't want it. Trust me on this." Kali's eyes stay on him. "R'hin. Just say what you want to say." she says gently, though her voice seems tense. She pulls her leg closer to her again and stretches her back, arching it slightly. "You're making me nervous." she says, getting to her feet and nearly dancing across the floor to the wall, which she presses against as she looks over at him. "There, now there's room for you to esc..." but she does finish the word, instead, she falls what appears to be through the wall and lands with a loud splash. She squeaks. The wall which she seems to have fallen through is more like a door than a piece of stone, just very well painted and in a darker corner of the weyr. Though he smiles, the sharp shake of R'hin's head is firm enough to suggest he's not about to be swayed into explaining. Brows draw downwards in confusion at Kali's curious dance, then upwards as she disappears. He moves towards the wall - or where the wall -was- and peers through warily. "Kali? You okay?" Kali gasps softly, there's a chance she's hurt, but what she's stumbled upon has all her attention. From the wall is a small little spring, and carved into the stone is a small basin. The room is warm and only just big enough for Kali (if she had intentionally entered) to sit comfortably on a stone seat near the water. Kali shifts to the seat and winces, yup, that hurt. "I... I don't know..." she answers truthfully, but her voice is filled with a hushed awe. "R'hin will you look at /this/..." she finally manages to say. Once R'hin assures himself there's no immediate danger, he steps into the little room, peering about. "Careful," he warns, as she takes a seat, "This area might not be stable. It was walled up for a reason." Eyes travel over the springs and the little basin with a furrowing of his brow. Kali looks at the wall. "No... R'hin look..." she points at the wall, which is, indeed part of the wall, but like the skylight, has been rigged to open and close. "I was told and inventor used to live in this weyr... this must have been one of the things he worked on." she says with sparkle in her eye. Her eyes are looking around the alcove, imagining glows lighting up the warm little room. She looks over at R'hin, "Taking to this weyrleader thing better than you would have expected." she says with a smirk. "Inventor?" R'hin echoes, voice no less wary for that 'reassurance'. Once he seems satisfied that Kali's okay, he turns his attention to the walls with interest. Though the comment about his status wouldn't seem to be intended as a jibe, he seems to take it as one, if the way the bronzerider stiffens is any indicator. "Necessity," is his abrupt, rather cool response. Kali gets to her feet and rests her hand on his shoulder if he'll let her. "R'hin..." she says to him softly. "What's bothering you?" she finally asks, if the hand managed to land on his shoulder it will remain there, her thumb brushing against the back of his shirt. "You say I've changed? But perhaps it's you who've changed." her tone is gentle, but she knows her words are likely harsh. She can't very well leave the little room as he is blocking the entrance, so she stands there, searching his face for answers. R'hin doesn't dissuade the touch, though he does give Kali a guarded look, and neither does he encourage her. "My thoughts are too often in the future these days," is all he says. "I have changed," he agrees, "But that doesn't mean you haven't, either. You've become a greenrider, with all that entails. I'm not sure I like the changes, either. I liked it when you were... -you-." He pauses momentarily, cool eyes on the greenrider. "I'd best be going." Kali looks at her hand on his shoulder and then up at him, her eyes widen. "Oh! OH!" she says, pulling her hand away and backing into the room. Her eyes dart about her, trapped as she is and instead of staying there she pushes past him, fleeing across the room. About halfway across the room she crumples into a heap, sobbing. As she begins to push past him, R'hin momentarily blocks her path, muttering low, "I -warned- you that you didn't want to hear it." He shifts out the way, allowing Kali to brush past him, with no further attempt to stop her. Although pale eyes follow her, there is no attempt on his part to move towards her or console her; the gentleman is gone, only the cold man remains. "You don't understand yet, about freedom, true freedom. That it eludes us, now. We are what we are. It is a burden we must all bear." He turns, and heads for the passageway. Kali sobs. The harsh lesson taught. But Kali's not done with the emotions running through her, "If you're too good for being friends with a greenrider why did you even bother coming?" she asks after him, her eyes dark and hollow, tears streaming down her face. "I'm not like them R'hin. I'm not." she insists, but her words shake. "I did not come here for a greenrider, I came for Kali, and that is not who is here." R'hin pauses in the passageway, shadows casting his expression into something inscrutable. "Then, -prove- it. Think of more than whom you wish to sleep with, or which place to go and get drunk, or have a good time. Think of the future, and the future of those who follow us, then you will understand. Then, you will not be as they are." Kali gets to her feet a challenging look in her eyes. "Oh, I am here R'hin. More than I ever was." sure doesn't sound like her though. "I'm not thinking of who I wish to sleep with, though I admit all of candidacy and weyrlinghood I hated not being able to have that choice, that is more of me than you ever would have known. If you truely question if that is me or her, ask B'yan." a soft pause as she creeps across the room towards R'hin, "If you think I'm looking for somewhere to drink you should know I've never been drunk and have little intention of ever becoming so." another pause and a few more steps, "I don't know my place in the future R'hin, I never did. Never knew what I wanted or where I'd wind up, and I still don't. Being a greenrider has not changed that either." a few last steps and she is standing face to face with him, "Tell me, R'hin, how have I changed?" a challenge. R'hin's stance doesn't waver, and there is perhaps the faintest curl of lips as she approaches him, as if somehow pleased. "It is not my place to answer that question. It is yours to seek the answer in yourself, or in others close to you. When you -do- find the answer however, come and find me, and perhaps we can speak of your future, then." His hand reaches up, roughened fingertips brushing at her tear-stained cheeks for a moment. "Be careful, Kali." An odd choice of parting words, indeed, and on that note he turns, striding for the ledge, and the waiting Leiventh. You head out to the ledge. |
