Description

Though headed toward average height, Riahla still has a coltish look to her, with only faint curves laid over her youthful boniness. Her face, at least, still holds a little baby-fat roundness, offset by a determined gray eyes and a stern little chin (and undermined by pouty lips). Her long sun-blonde hair has a few waves in it, though it's often pulled back in a disheveled ponytail. Not a snazzy dresser by any means, she favors too-big sweaters, unfancy pants, and similar garments.

History

Relationships

  • Suireh is her minutes-younger twin sister. They bicker a lot within them but together they're a force to be reckoned with. Suireh is the thinking half; Riahla is the doing one, though she often seems to lack her sister's sense of purpose. They don't finish each other's sentences, possibly because Riahla, at least, is often as unclear on just what Suireh is thinking as anybody else.
  • Anvori is their uncle, and while Riahla never goes out of her way to try to vex him, sometimes it just happens. Weyrbred to the core, Riahla often doesn't seem to think about specific parent figures, mostly because she's rarely had a consistent one.
  • Satiet is Riahla's mother, which is a complicated subject indeed. Riahla doesn't remember ever being particularly close to her mother and while the hurt of losing her is real, it's hard for Riahla to exactly remember what the difference was Before. She's very conscious of how little she has in common with her reserved, calculating, dark-haired mother, especially compared to Suireh.
  • R'hin, Riahla's father, is a much easier figure for her to relate to, for all he's been as scarce as her dead mother. In some ways, Monaco feels homier to Riahla than the Reaches, simply because she can just be there, without all the burdens of famous parentage.
  • Tiriana, as a Weyrwoman, doesn't quite live up to Riahla's expectations, which are all based on hearsay about Satiet. But as a person? Riahla has to respect some of Tiriana's tendencies towards bullheaded, unladylike violence. Sure, Riahla doesn't punch people in general, and she's not really even a spoiled, cushy brat, but she's tomboyish and straightforward and sometimes, secretly, she thinks Tiriana might have been a better mother. At least Rianev never wants for attention, right?
  • Leova's role as Anvori's special friend doesn't so much affect Riahla as the greenrider's own nature does. Leova is inscrutable, mysterious, feminine without being girly, a woman of few words. These are all things Riahla--gregarious, tomboyish, upfront Riahla--is lacking.
  • Raija, the Weyrwoman's cousin, is something of an idol for both Suireh and Riahla. Suireh appreciates the older girl's beauty and femininity; when Suireh and Raija's mother Brijana aren't looking, Raija and Riahla like to go do tomboyish things together.
  • L'sen is like an honorary uncle, seeing as how he always liked Satiet. Being somewhat absent-minded, he's like to remember the twins periodically and try to indulge them, then phase back out until he remembers he's looking out for them again. Being the ultimate in laid-back, he's sort of a safe place for Riahla: an adult she doesn't have to worry about putting on any sort of front for.
  • Leysen, L'sen's son and nearly five turns the twins' elder, seems to think of himself as an older brother of some sort, too. He's always looking out for them, although he's much less obvious about it than his loudmouth father. He and Riahla tease and bicker like siblings, especially when he tries to tell her some life lesson, as older brothers are wont to do.
