| Early evening finds Trinity in the depths of her infirmary shift today. Not an apprentice healer but a simple infirmary assistant she's basically here to do all the work that non-healers can do while the actually apprentices, journeyman, and masters of their craft can do that /they/ do. Lucky is with them for the infirmary is fairly quiet with just a few patients popping in for minor ailments. On hand it's a lucky thing but on the other hand..boredom tends to strike when candle marks remain and the time seems to be moving to agonizingly slow. Half hidden behind a curtain, Trinity keeps busy with a knife and small stick obtained from outside somewhere. Slowly she's whittling down the stick into shavings onto the ground at her feet. One such patient is a little boy named Jaymin, who sits on one of the cots having his knee - scraped and bruised, but not badly injured - tended to by one of the healers. A man who is, perhaps, his father (there's certainly some family resemblance) stands just to the side, one hand ruffling the boy's hair, while the other hangs loosely at his side. Jaymin's tears have dried into stains down his face, and his sniffles have subsided with the application of candy; it leaves tall, bronzed-skin N'dalis to turn his attention away-- and, with a look of surprise, to catch sight of that steady stream of shavings across the way. Perhaps Trinity can see him: certainly, he lifts his head after a moment to track shavings to person, and person to face, however obscured. Despite her clearly halfway hiding from any other duties to be bestown upon her, Trinity does keep a half hearted eye open for anyone who may notice her over here and set her to work. Thusfar she's escaped the attention of anyone on duty though it looks like the parent of a patient has spied her. Oh noes! Seeing she's been spotted she gives a half-smile as if to say 'hey, what /else/ is there to do. Her grey eyed gaze flickers briefly towards the kid who's injured, though minority, and another sketchy smile appears. She's always had a weakness for children. At least his tears have stopped for now! N'dalis greets that half-smile with a somewhat dubious lift of his eyebrows, and the faintest suggestion of disapproval. Still, any opinions he might have are soothed by the smile she has for his boy. That arm drops from Jay's head and reaches, instead, to wrap around him - a kind of half hug. "Whacha looking at, daddy?" the boy wants to know, straining to see, and very nearly kicking the healer at work in the process. "Nothing important. Keep your knee still, mm? Don't kick the Journeyman." Trinity covers a smirk and a frown at the rider's words. Nothing important indeed! It rings through her head a moment as a scowl threatens to surface along with a few choice words directed to the rider. The faintest suggestion of disapproval was noted as she tries just a little to scuff the shavings under the closest bed. Folding her knife closed she stashes it in the pocket of her pants as she stands up. If there is a journeyman there with the kid and his father than certainly she's within his sights. Indecision wars across her expression as if she should actually go over there to offer assistance or simply ignore N'dalis and his kid and go across the room to do something over there. Not too surprisingly perhaps it's the child that draws her over closer. "Anything I can help with, Journeyman?" she inquires. Her voice is surprisingly rich for her age of about 16 turns. Though quiet, her gaze flickers with intelligence as she takes in the scene. She may be remembered as coming to the weyr with a foster family about 2 turns ago though there's nothing too remarkable to for her to be committed to anyones memory for too terribly long, so N'dalis may or may not recognize her face as one he's seen around. N'dalis, of course, is entirely oblivious to Trinity's reaction to his words-- and would be even if he were still glancing in her direction. Instead, he's given Jaymin his undivided focus, and watches him as the boy strives to sit as still as he possibly can. Nonetheless, both sets of eyes lift as Trinity approaches, neutrality visible in one, and interest in the other - the younger. "Fetch me some gauze, please, Trinity?" says the healer, turning his head to look at the aide. "This young man's nearly ready to go. He's been very brave, haven't you, Jay?" Jaymin looks pleased. He /has/. Dal, beside him, simply looks stoic. Trinity's head bobs once in affirmation of her given task. Stepping away for a moment she returns with the requested item, holding it until the healer asks for it. "Certainly he's been brave enough for a bigger reward than mere candy." says she, her eyes sparkling brightly towards the young patient. "Perhaps young, brave, Jay might get to stay up later than usual tonight?" N'dalis' expression tightens. "I rather think that is up to me to decide," he says, sounding awkward and clipped and not especially happy. It makes Jay tense up, too, though he turns his head and puts one hand upon his father's arm. "It's okay, daddy. I had candy." The healer, perhaps wisely, stays right out of it, accepting Trinity's gauze and neatly applying it to the boy's knee. "What you won't do is have a full bath," he says. "Not until tomorrow. You can take that off, then." Trinity seems oblivious to the father's expression and directs her next comment to the youth. "Well, I tried! I know I always enjoyed being able to stay up late with the older kids." she's all smiles for him, her gaze shifting to the healer once he speaks next. She falls silent now and listens as she's just there to observe and if needed! Out of the corner of her eye though she shoots quick and curious looks towards N'dalis as if trying to determine what she thinks of this rider! Jay gives Trinity a tentative smile, though it largely seems as if he's taken after his father in reserve, at least to /some/ degree. Dal's expression is as dubious as ever, and it's obvious that /he/ doesn't think much of Trinity - but she's apparently little more than a blip on his radar, for he turns his attention back to the healer, and to his son, and gives a firm nod. "We'll keep it clean," he promises. "And come back if anything looks amiss. And..." his voice softens. "Perhaps we'll learn to look where we're running." Jay turns his head towards his father and properly grins. "Thank you, Journeyman. If that's all, we'll excuse ourselves. You might... like to have your aide sweep the floors." He saw, then, what she did with the shavings. Trinity tries to hide the wince at that suggestion, her hand twitching reflexively towards the pocket in which hinder knife dwells. She glances guiltily towards the healer and then back. This certainly doesn't earn the green rider any brownie points! The look on her expression shows she'll not forget this! Without waiting for the healer notice her mess she trudges reluctantly to get the broom and start the task. "C'mon and see me anytime ya like kiddo." she tells Jay before she departs his bedside. Clearly, N'dalis is not after brownie points. He certainly doesn't seem especially pleased by Trinity's offer, and rather sweeps Jay away with him-- away from corrupting influences, or whatever it is that he sees in here. The poor Journeyman is left to sigh, though at /least/ he doesn't seem inclined to take it out upon Trinity. Probably. |
