| I went to a gather at Fort Sea Hold today and they had tiny ships in bottles. I don't know how they get those little bitty ships in those small glass bottles, but one of them looked a lot like the Pirate Queen II. How is the sealife? I think I've memorized every important political figure I could ever imagine, and Irianke wants me to meet everyone in our coverage area. I heard Lord Aughan is an old goat. It's way less exciting than island hopping like I'm sure you're doing. I heard someone say the other day that the captain of a ship is the last to leave. Is that true? Does Itsy make you leave the ship before she does? Miss you. Farideh The writing is neat and amazingly great, almost like he's had a harper write it. Dearest Farideh, My heart is beating faster for the loss of your presence, feeling like it will burst before I even see you again. Your nose is like a snow-covered mountain slope, virgin and untouched. I count the All my love, Drex I admit that I am surprised to find that in the short time since we last saw each other you have conquered literacy, and in doing so have outdistanced my own abilities. When did Itsy find the time to teach you? Or do you harbor a harper on your ship? We are graduating in a month. I'm looking forward to winter. Keep safe. Farideh The writing is not quite so neat, and is completely different when compared to the previous letter. Dear hot chick, Your hair smells like fish & my dick is very small. I have no idea why you could possibly like me. There's a handsome scribe at a little hold called Far Wells who would very much love to get to know you in all the fun ways. P.S. your sailor boyfriend is a bit of a sucker. He thinks this is a love letter. That dude. Drex, I applaud your effort, but do be careful with who you conscript to write these letters for you. If I wasn't accustomed to Weyr life by now, I might be affronted by what your friend, the scribe, had to say in this last missive. It is flattering that you went through all that trouble for me. Everything here is the same and boring, except one of Fort's weyrwomen disappeared. People are upset. I didn't think dragons or people could just... disappear. Love, Farideh There's lots (and lots) of crossed out words here and there along with plenty of misspelled words, which is probably why the letter itself is so short, but it looks like he might genuinely be trying to write his own letter this time. Wat do u mean? I wrote all letters. Wear the XX (no signature) Included with this letter is the letter from "Drex" (aka the guy from Far Wells), with the "scribe" and "fun ways" parts underlined: If you practice your writing, you are guaranteed to get better, and if you need help you might ask someone more trustworthy than whoever wrote that other letter. I wear my bracelet every day. It would be better if you were here, though. A bracelet isn't keeping caddish scribes and horny bronzeriders, who do not understand how to keep their hands to themselves, away. Farideh His penmanship is still awful, and there's letters and words misspelled all over. Turning the ship around.
Make a list. Drex, please do not do anything rash. It was a prank I presume, however much in bad taste. You shouldn't give him a bloody lip because you trusted the wrong person with your letter writing. Would you like a list of every man that has put his hands on me or the ones who make propositions too? What about the ones who stare at me and lick their lips? That list might be very, very long. Farideh The letter comes a long time later. More than likely far too late for hers to have reached him and him to have replied before he could've gone to Far Wells. There's still plenty of misspellings (and where the heck did he learn the term 'bae' from?)) It's all good, bae. A long list will keep me busy come winter. This letter is crisp and clean, and on higher quality paper (not that the others weren't, but this looks newly pressed). Her brushstrokes are a little less purposeful, a little messier, but still, unmistakably, in Farideh's thin, elegant script: You should come back before winter. I think I'm pregnant. Farideh There's... no reply. Or at least the reply, if one is coming, takes longer than normal. |
