| Out in the snow, after, Quint had a quick word with Silva's suitor. In truth, he felt sympathy for the boy. It wasn't all that long ago since he'd been in the same boat, feeling the demanding urges of a teenage boy, and lacking the will and maturity to control them. Certainly, he hadn't learnt his lesson at his first posting after making Journeyman. And while he'd left Benden Hold rather sooner than he fancied the Hall wished, he at least had the protection (even if so, the scolding) of the Hall to look to, with some discrete reparations taken out of his stipend as a (painful) reminder. Not so reliant on such means, these days. He was old enough to judge the merits of a place, to get a feel for the political climate before daring dip his toes into the water... so to speak. Not that he hadn't been tempted. He was but a man, after all. But a harper, first and foremost. |
