| H'kon had not been there when Brieli (Aishani) had made her announcement. It was Arekoth's clutch, and he'd made an appearance for the sake of propriety. He'd not stayed. It was late. He was not a man for parties. And he'd found her, or she, him. Perhaps it was questionable, to have been falling into sleep with Madilla in his arms when such a betrayal was announced. But what would he have done then? What was there to him to do now? It offered as much reprieve for him as it caused concern now, in the caverns, worse, in the wing drills. Perhaps the talk was not of him, perhaps the looks had stopped, but now there was uncertainty. There were those who seemed to pity her, this liar Aishani, who would open their arms. Those so ready to forgive, for all it seemed she was not. Arekoth had told him the Weyr was in no danger. No imminent danger, at least, which is more what he trusted his brown to sense. And what did 'Weyr' mean, in the reassurances of Iesaryth's, of which H'kon's dragon assured him? Home? But one did not lie to one's home. One certainly did not announce a (partial, he was certain) truth at a hatching feast if one meant no harm. Perhaps it had been a lapse in duty, to have not been there. But it was not so much that which disrupted his sleep. And there was nothing for him to do now.
