Oliwer is off of his latest shift and he's gotten a ride to the weyr. He passes Teisyth on his way into the inner weyr with his usual greeting for the green. He goes about his usual routine, putting on water for tea and changing into clean, comfortable clothes. But once he has his tea and he's settled, he reappears, looking like he wants to say something to the dragon and not quite sure how to go about it.

Teisyth is busy when Oliwer comes in. Tonight, she's not entertaining, and of course his arrival gives her pause, but you see, it's important that she stack all the pillows from her couch just outside the wallow so she can find the teeny tiny pebble that she somehow lost at the bottom. She's balanced, splayed-limbs across the space, talons clutching the edge, her neck curled down underneath her to peer at the now empty indentation in the rock. When Oliwer comes out, she croons at him in relief. Won't he be a dear and climb down (underneath her sizeable bulk) and fetch that little pebble for her (hopefully before she squashes him)?

He doesn't seem entirely sure what the dragon wants right away, but he sets aside his tea and approaches to try offering a hand. That's much easier than what's been on his mind, after all. "If you moved a bit to the side, I might be able to see better." And not have to get underneath her. Oliwer, of course, trusts the green as much as he's likely to trust any dragon. But she is rather excitable at times.

Excitable! Yes! She makes a cheery sound; Oliwer is so smart! She carefully moves out of the precarious place she'd made for herself and even manages not to get her bulk into the light. The pebble should soon be apparent. If he looks. It's small, but shiny. Not unlike the small bag of shiny pebbles she gifted him with on his last turnday. She's thoughtful that way! Sharing her treasures!

Once Teisyth is out of his way and in less danger of accidentally squashing him, Oliwer fetches the pebble as deftly as a creature with natural dexterity and opposable thumbs can manage. He even comments on how nice of a pebble it is before asking where he ought to be putting it for safekeeping.

« Over there, » the green indicates the not immediately apparent line of such items against the wall behind the wallow. « Thanks, Oli. » G'laer isn't here; it's their secret, right? Even as Oliwer moves to lay down the pebble, she's already nosing pillows back into her couch in some order that couldn't be divined even by watching her.

Once the pebble has been put away very carefully, the healer turns back to the green and watches her for a few fond moments as she arranges her pillows. "Teisyth, I'd like to ask something of you. Something important. But I don't want you to be upset. And I'd like it if you didn't tell G'laer."

Teisyth stops. This sort of thing is unusual and requires her full attention. She sits just where she's at, half in and half out of the wallow, and lets her head slide down toward him. She's considering what he's said already. « Our secret? » They already have one, and that's pretty hard to keep. Should they dare a second? She seems uncertain, but not unwilling.

"Right. Yes. Our secret." Oliwer pauses, considering how he wants to go about talking about something that neither of them are particularly comfortable talking about. "It's just... I was thinking... I. I know that you have, at times, helped guide G'laer away from... from being with other people. And I'd just... I'd like you to not do that anymore. Please."

Well that there's plain perplexin'. It can be felt since Teisyth's focused herself on him. First of all, she doesn't remember the incidents in question, and number "B", « But ... he loves you, Oli. »

"I know. I know he does. I do. And I love him, too, Teisyth." Oliwer takes a slow breath, perhaps considering backing away from this entirely. But, no. He perseveres! "But that means he should make his own decisions about it, shouldn't it? He shouldn't need you to help him say no. And if he doesn't say no... maybe that's not the end of the world."

Well. Well. This is hard, because just at this moment, Teisyth can't imagine a time when G'laer would cheat on Oliwer. So the first thing is, « But he loves you. » This time the word love is colored by what might actually be the way it feels for G'laer to love Oliwer. The feel of it isn't the usual copper and nuts, but crushed pine, campfire smoke and fresh-fallen snow. It's a glimpse into what G'laer is like on the inside, where only Teisyth knows him. And the depth of the love is intense. Perhaps so much more than could ever be expressed in three little words. So much more, that she doesn't seem equaled to the task of even transmitting it, and so there's a sense of apology there too, that she can't show him better. But since Oliwer is asking... « But, Oli, » another objection, « He'd be so mad at himself if he done did somthin' dumb. » Surely, this is valid, if she'd be saving him from himself.

That sharing makes Oliwer gasp and tears well slowly into his eyes. He steps back, reaching out for the wall to help support himself until he can lean against it properly. His eyes close and while he attempts to deal with those feelings that he's never felt quite like this before. It takes him a little while to say anything again. When he does, his voice wavers with emotion. "I don't want him to do something dumb. I just... What we have is more than just sex. I know that. I don't want him to think being with someone else is dumb. It happens when you... you know. And maybe if it was something he could do at any time, that wouldn't bother me as much as it does sometimes, too."

No! She doesn't know! She doesn't know at all! What is Oliwer talking about? LA LA LA. She completely ignores that part. Instead, Teisyth offers quiet resistance, but Oliwer's persisted desire is winning out. « But he don't need t'be with anyone else. And don't want to. » Most times. « Except when he is dumb or drunk. » She expresses distaste for the state. But slowly, slowly, she finally says. « If yer sure it's really what y'want, Oli... » Though she sounds extremely dubious that this is actually the case.

The fact that G'laer wants it at all, even if only very rarely, is enough for Oliwer to persist. "I'm sure. Thank you, Teisyth." He doesn't point out that if he does end up having more problems with it than he can handle, he'll probably ask her to go back to how she's been dealing with it. Making it even a possibility that he'll take it back, however, isn't something he wants her to consider right now. "You're a very good friend."

« I love you, Oli. » Teisyth moves to nuzzle him with her nose. She means it. It's not like the love she has for G'laer, of course, but it's real and true, too.

Fortunately there are still tears in his eyes, so if her words cause more, it's not very obvious. Oliwer smiles fondly at the green and embraces her nose as well as he can as he returns the sentiment with genuine warmth, "I love you, too, dearheart."
