| Arekoth. The colours, ever and always at the back of his mind, came forward, thin tendrils, stretched. And then, there. « Hal. » Quickly. H'kon already held in his mind a list of what they would require; basic gear, passenger straps, marks or trinkets to help on the way. Time was of the essence. It was a wonder no rider yet had stepped out from the Weyrleader's example (if inaction was such), and Madilla had only given him a general layout - all she had - of her route. A day, perhaps, to go from hold to hold, to trace the Weyrhealer's movements, find her. A day might be time enough, to preserve these relations about which K'del seemed so concerned. Might. Their weyr was empty when they arrived. H'kon was glad for it, for the straight shot to the chest where their riding gear was kept. Raija would be out with her grandmother, now. It had been a difficult time for her, this time alone, but she'd come accustomed to his mother. His absence would, in all hopes, not be an extended one. And, as Arekoth was fond of saying, kids bounced. He would need trust her to do this. It made his gut ache. He forced his hands to move quickly. « Where are we going? » Ardvel's Mine, first. Midway. Give an idea of how far she has gone. If she was following the route. If it had not changed. Arekoth was ready, was anxious. So was H'kon. He could feel the energy building in the dragon's muscles, and his own. Madilla, at least, would keep the affair neatly contained by the Healers, whether or not it truly was their jurisdiction. She was Weyrhealer, had lived among dragonriders - had lived, now, with H'kon himself and Arekoth - and would have some better idea than this replacement. He trusted Madilla, as did K'del, as did K'zin, to offer Teris the peace from which she'd been kept. More, she had seen death, would face it without stigma or fear. Even if it would be difficult for her, to be brought back to that suffering, to be involved again in a death. But it had to be the Madilla. It could not come from the Weyr. From High Reaches. H'kon paused, bag in hand, nearly to Arekoth. Nearly to leaving his daughter to seek out her mother, his weyrmate, and bring her into an affair that was no more hers than it was his Weyr's. The decision was being given to all but the one who must make it. The former goldrider. Telgar's. He dropped the bag, and turned back into his weyr. He knew where it was, the key that guarded the more potent of the drugs, to which his weyrmate had access, in her (current) position. He also knew those healers who would be more sympathetic, more like to let him pass as visitor. This had been drawn out long enough. He would draw it out no further. It was the best thing to do for her, H'kon told himself. For Teris. Arekoth's wings rustled, but the curl of colour through H'kon's mind offered no argument. |
