| When: Day 28, Month 12, Turn 11 (Interval 10) |
| Your location's current time: 2:25 on day 28, month 12, Turn 11, of the Interval. It is a winter night. You land just below in the center of the Igen Weyr Bowl. You hop down Leiventh's side to the ground, as the dragon rumbles softly. Igen Weyr Center Bowl(#802RJe) You are standing in the middle of the Igen Weyr Bowl. The views are certainly spectacular. The dark volcanic peaks of the caldera which houses the Weyr rise up all around, weather beaten yet still firm, except at the northeasternmost section of the bowl, where the sheer cliffs that surround you break, leaving a jagged and imposing pass. At different times of the day these peaks cast long shadows across the bowl. Light glints off the lake to the northwest, and the heat makes the air seem to shimmer over the flat ground. The lake lies to the northwest, and to the northeast you can see a large training field, and beyond it, the Hatching Grounds and the weyrling barracks. Southeastwards lies the main entrance to the inner sections of the Weyr. A grazing ground lies to the southwest. Contents: Leiventh Shanlee Kaylith Raykini Kraznyth(#10764Vaes$) Fishing Boat(#19084JVe) Obvious exits: LakeShore Main Entrance Field Weyrling Training Field Feeding Grounds High above the Igen bowl, a pair of dragons blink of out between. Not a particularly unusual sight, the challenge of the watchdragon aside - the challenge answered by the low rumble of the larger bronze, before the two - bronze and green - wing down and settle onto the Igen bowl floor, stirring up dust as they do so. Leiventh immediately settles down into a comfortable hunch, R'hin dismounting soon after, glancing towards Kaylith and her rider with an easy grin, before pale gaze flickers around the bowl. Raykini is sitting near his boat, this has become a rather usual sight these days in Igen. The red-head brooding under the shadow of the huge fishing boat. Today, however, he is trying to fix the boards along the side, a few nails are scattered about as he tries to hammer a new nail into the boards. Sand suddenly moves all around him, buffeting him by the winds and the fisherman is soon sputtering out the grains from his mouth. A hand slowly moves to shield his eyes as he looks around for the source, only scowling in annoyance as he spots the riderpair. Kaylith following in easily behind the bronze crouches once they land to allow her petite rider to dismount with more ease, then sets to settling herself nearer to Leiventh for the comfort of being in a strange weyr at an odd time of night. A curious look meets the Reachian Weyrleader's grin then slips off to make a quick pass of the bowl too "Odd time of night to be making social calls?" the light voice echoing her lifemate's thoughts. The fact that there's a boat standing in the middle of the bowl very quickly catches Shan's attention "What the..." a longer look cast around and back to R'hin, a brow raising in query for the oddity. Leiventh's demeanor isn't particularly comforting, but the bronze shifts his weight marginally, deliberately bulking up as if to present a far larger presence. R'hin strips off goggles, flying helmet and gloves in short order, tucking them into the bronze's saddlebags. "Precisely the sort of time to make them, the oddness," the Weyrleader's low voice answers Shanlee's comment, laced with dark amusement. "Shall we--" he begins to gesture grandly, but is halted by the wingsecond's exclamation, following her gaze towards the boat with a rise of brows and a bemused study of the boat and its repairer. Raykini just shakes his head slowly, pushing himself to his feet and brushing off the sand that had managed to accumulate on his clothes after the whole ordeal. A hand absently reaches upwards to run a hand through his hair, fanning it out to get the grains out of there as well. "Sharding sand. I'll be happy to be rid of this place." Ray says mostly to himself, scoffing his boot at the offending grains. Leiventh> Kaylith senses that Leiventh's deep, rumbling mindtones are a soothing presence, breathing the feeling of High Reaches with a familiar, sharp chillness. He doesn't seem particularly bothered by being in a foreign Weyr, though he does seem fairly alert, almost protective of Kaylith. Shanlee's own flight gear already stowed, the Weyrleader's return bringing a faint curve of lips "Ahhh....I see." though she doesn't elaborate on quite what it is she's come to understand with more clarity. The little green's settling nearer to the bronze is seemingly all re-assurance she was seeking if the way her head dropping to her forepaws is any indication. The muttering of another coming from the direction of the boat, has the Reachian greenrider giving it closer inspection to identify the source "This -is- a desert right?" asked of R'hin under her breath still not sure that her eyes weren't playing tricks on her. Leiventh senses that Kaylith's relaxing is almost immediate for the calming presence. The familiarity of High Reaches being found in the bronze, his presence affording all that's needed. "That's-- not something you see every day," R'hin eventually murmurs with a shake of his head. "Mm, desert. I suspect some sort of prank or other-- I'm not particularly sure who thought it would be a good idea to lay Thread-bait out in the midst of their bowl, but--" with a twitch of shoulders, the bronzerider conveys a great deal, moving a hand towards Shanlee's elbow as if to escort her. "Our timing is poor right now, it seems. Shall we interrogate the locals while we wait?" His head tips, deliberately, towards Raykini. There's an audible snort in annoyance when R'hin mentions locals. "I'll have you know." Raykini's voice starts, "That I am /certainly/ not a local. And I'm not here under my own will. As soon as we get our boat fixed up, I have full intention of heading sea-wards." A soft thud is soon heard afterwards as Ray moves to kick the side of the boat in agitation. The red-head isn't exactly very happy with his situation, after all. Allowing R'hin to escort her, a low chuckle meets his words on pranks, Shan now paying closer attention to the red haired youth that hovers near the boat. "No indeed not." disapproval for the combination of wood and thread clear in the light tone. A mischievous light enters the green eyes which flit first upward to the bronzerider at her side then back over to the other which fades just as quickly for the youth's words in return. Taking slight offence for the words from the lad "Have a care for whom you address in such a manner." a pointed look given the lad, then "How did you plan on attempting this sea-ward endeavor?" a lopsided grin appears at the situation. A little twist of lips conveys R'hin's wry amusement at being overheard. There's no embarrassment, however, as he paces Shanlee towards Raykini. Shanlee's pointed look and words earn a sidelong glance from the man, and just a faint squeeze of fingers to her arm in silent acknowledgement before he drops hand back to his side. "Under your own will or not," the 'Reachian bronzerider echoes Raykini's words with just a twist of doubt injected into them, "You -are- here. That makes you more local than us. This," a sharp gesture of his hand indicates the boat, "Is yours?" The greenrider's query also produces a twitch of brows, curiousity lacing his expression. Raykini coughs quietly into his hand, just noticing the weyrleader's knot, "If you'll forgive me, rider. I meant no offence. Just..." He kicks the boat again, narrowing his eyes in a glare at it. "We've been having problems trying to fix her up since she got here. First the wood rot from coming between, then all our supplies being absolutely useless due to the amount of water seepage we obtained, and now we're finding that we have to repair pretty much everything else. My father's beginning to think it's not really worth fixing up but..." He runs a hand through his hair, sighing in annoyance. "At this point I'm not even sure if we'll be able to make her sea-worthy again. At least not without spending all our savings on repairing her." He messes his nose up in thought, quickly turning his attention to the riders once more. "Aye, sir. Well, it actually belongs to my father, but I am part of the crew." A sidelong glance and hints of a smile to R'hin just before he drops his hand away, then Shan's lifting her chin in satisfaction for Raykini's apology. Nodding her agreement on the formers notation of what constituted being a local. When the explanation for the latter's demeanor and the boat's state of disrepair is revealed, a wry look appears "Your father may have a point." Something said catches the wingsecond's attention "Hold up. *Between* ? How or why does a fishing boat go *between*?" slight puzzlement showing through her tone. "I would have thought, that such endeavors would take place under stone. Not sky," R'hin's musing is accompanied by a hand flung skywards, though pale gaze doesn't leave the boy. "I'm impressed however, by the Igenites' restraint in not flaming your ship to ashes." The bronzerider's gaze shifts towards Leiventh, deliberately drawing attention there, the dragon watching stoically - barely a twitch from the dark bulk. A curl of lips, as his eyes alight on Shanlee, tones mild, "Remind me, would you, wingsecond, to compliment the new Igenite Weyrleader on his... lenience?" Silence follows as his gaze shifts back to Raykini, awaiting his answer of the greenrider's question. Raykini nods his head absently, coming out of the boat's shadow now, since he has a bit of explaining to do. "Aye, miss, between. Y'see, we were out to sea a few sevendays ago now, a sudden storm came 'pon us. We were to far from shore and the sea was too rough. I still thank Faranth that the greenrider here found us, if it wasn't for her..." He lets his words drift off, shaking his head. "But that's not how we got here, see. We tried to tie the green to the mast, but she couldn't pull our boat herself, she called a goldrider here." He messes his face up in thought, a finger coming to tap on his lips, "I forget her name, but I don't think she's the Senior. But regardless, next thing I know, the gold's tied up to our boat, lifting our boat into the air with us on it. And then cold and darkness, when sunlight appeared once more...we were here. They set us down right here and haven't moved our boat since." With the rise of a fine brow, Shan casts a dryly amused glance sideways to R'hin again when he mentions flaming the lad's boat. Taking in vessel's condition again with slower perusal this time, the greenrider notes idly "My Weyrleader may actually have a point there. Surely it's just as much work to build another as it would be to repair this one." slight shoulders shrug "Besides. If you rebuild at the coast that solves your problem of trying to get -this- back down there." seemed simple enough to her. To the Weyrleader's comment on the Igen Weyrleader "Oh, you can count on me reminding you of that Sir." pause "Perhaps the 'rescuer' should receive compliment too." the greenrider returns, her tone held carefully bland once Raykini gives further explanation on the boat's arrival at Igen weyr. "A -gold- played fetch and carry?" Disbelief colors R'hin's tones, chased soon enough by bemusement. "Things are rather... different in Igen." While the words are mild enough, they aren't precisely ringing with compliments. He flashes a grin at Shanlee, agreeing with a low chuckle, "Mm. Good point - I'll be sure to do such." Raykini shrugs his shoulders absently, scratching the side of his head as his attention turns back to his boat. "With all the work she needs done...I'd be surprised if it took us a long time to get out of this place. I'd feel better if we were somewhere where supplies weren't so hard to get but..." He shakes his head, "As it is right now, she won't float." Mild confusement flickers to the young man's face as he turns between the riders, pursing his lips tightly. Affecting a light cough to cover her amusement at R'hin's opening choice of words, Shan levels another look on Raykini "It would be my assumption that seeing as the Igenite's were so kind in affecting the rescue of both yourselves and your....boat..." slight hesitance to name the un-seaworthy vessel such "....that the least they could do would be to help supply of what's needed to repair it and return it back to where it was plucked from." A slim hand waves "Just the humble opinion of a greenrider nothing more." tacked on nonchalantly a querying look sent to R'hin for his opinion on the matter "As it is right now, she -can't- float," the 'Reachian bronzerider's dry observation comes as he glances down at the floor of the bowl. "Unless there's unheard of flash flooding in the Igen area in the near future." A purse of lips follows, as R'hin considers Shanlee's words. "It seems logical enough to me," he agrees, "Unless, of course, you fall under the seacraft?" A brief pause, as pale eyes flicker over the boy's shoulder, searching for a knot. "In any case, I'd imagine there are more important things on the minds of the Weyrleaders. Not that Igen's had many falls at all." Raykini lets his eyes drift longingly towards the lake, pursing his lips tightly, "Eye, she can't and won't." He blinks a bit when he notices his shoulder knot being eyed, "Just a fisherman, sir. We're not part of the seacraft. We work on our own accord. Though...I have been thinking about joining the 'craft myself before father decides to step down." All out of 'helpful' ideas, Shan keeps her silence as the two speak thinking only to add to R'hin's last "Likely why they've taken to collecting boats in the bowl." in a low aside more to herself then anyone else. Then deciding more information was required "May I be so bold as to enquire after a name?" this to the lad before them, green eyes roaming over him then off to sweep around the Bowl "Your father intends stepping down soon?" surprise showing in her tone if this were so. "A worthy craft." R'hin is, perhaps, obligated to say it, but then he doesn't exactly seem to be the sort to hold back negative opinions when he has them. "Fewer would be willing to join these days, with Thread so unpredictable. Rather like search. I'll be interested to see whether Igen finds many willing souls to stand for Tasieth's clutch." Shanlee's comment earns a low-throated chuckle from the Weyrleader, the grin lingering as he introduces himself, "R'hin, Leiventh's," a gesture towards the bronze. "And my lovely and intelligent companion is Shanlee, Kaylith's." Raykini sways rather uncomfortably in his spot, letting his head rest up against the creeky boards of the boat behind him, closing his eyes, lifting up a hand to try and shield against the harsh igen sun. "Raykini." He states quietly, "Fisherman. And my father isn't stepping down anytime soon, miss. He's still got quite a bit of fight, I was merely stating about getting some better training so that I'll be able to take on the responcibilities myself when the time comes." A brow slowly arches, "There's a clutch? I'd been so busy reparing this sharding thing that I haven't really noticed much else. Might explain all the betweening going on lately, then." "Rather a dragonback, then bobbing about in the open sea." Shan finds need to offer on the heels of R'hin's musings concerning search and the Seacraft where thread was likely to be involved. His introduction of them to the lad earns him a grin and slow shake of head "Flattery..." then leaves off finishing the sentence for the time being, a chuckle to match his own appearing instead. Returning to the red-haired youth "Well met Raykini." a fine brow raises "Fisherman or not, one would assume you take note of the goings on around you?" when the Igen clutch seems to find surprise with him. R'hin's head tips slightly in acknowledgement of Raykini's introduction. "There was a flight. A clutch ordinarily follows. I would assume that would hold true even for such a..." eyes move towards the boat, "...unique Weyr." An unrepentant, shameless sort of grin follows at Shanlee's accusation of flattery, not bothering to deny it. "Easy enough when it's true. And, I was never much for the sea, either. The lady of the spires, however--" he trails off into a deeper grin, deliberately not finishing the thought. Raykini shakes his head slowly as he lets his fingers roam over the splintered boards on the boat, a slightly fond expression coming to the young lad's face. "I love the sea. I don't think I could imagine myself anywhere else. I hate being inland. And besides, the sea is my home. I'm not so good inland, and being stuck here..." He drifts off, pursing his lips, deciding not to continue his thoughts. He pushes himself suddenly off of the boat, clearing his throat a little. "I've no interest in the on-goings of this weyr. I am only here until our boat is fixed. This is no place for us." "Maybe it's the heat out here during the day." is spoken idly by Shan, perhaps in offer of Igen's uniqueness from R'hin or that Raykini had take little notice of the recent flight. Lips curl upward as a brow follows suit to yet further words from the bronzerider on flattery "MmmmHhhmm.." the answer amused and non-verbal. When the Weyrwoman is mentioned "She did mention thread being a particularly 'good' thing when it came to fish." a shoulder half-rolls at this extra bit of information on the oddities of the fishing industry. Back to the lad's words on the sea and weyrs "It's usually considered respectful or at the very least grateful, to even perhaps 'fake' interest in the place that has granted you respite when it's been needed." the reproach mild. R'hin's eyes rise skywards for a heartbeat, as if contemplating niceness for just a second. "You have no interest in the Weyr. You don't wish to be here. You don't wish your -boat- to be here." Fingers lift one at a time with each point, the Weyrleader's tones dry: "It seems to me, Raykini, that if you convinced the riders of Igen to be so kind as to snatch your boat from water, you might be able to convince them to return it to water-- or nearer water, and away from here." Shanlee's comment earns a half turn of his head, eyeing the greenrider sidelong, bemused. "Did she indeed? I didn't think our dear Satiet thought any good of Thread. It is hard, I expect, to shake the fisherman." The choice of words apparently deliberate, if the cutting of pale eyes back to Raykini is any indicator. Raykini purses his lips tightly as they start to speak to him again, standing to his full height. "You'll have to forgive me, it's not often I come inland very often. I often forget my manners. I meant no harm by my words. I must admit, I've never seen dragon eggs before, so those might hold a interest to me. I hear that they have...interesting designs on them?" Ray's attention turns to R'hin, his fingers clenching slightly. "I never asked them to bring us here, sir. They did it out of their own accord. And I happen to be very grateful to be standing here instead of at the bottom of the sea. However, you will have to forgive me when I get a little restless." As R'hin ticks off the reasons as told to them by Raykini for his discomfort at being weyrbound, the dark red head nods in agreement, finding at this time no reason to add more on the Weyrleader's points. His comments on Satiet have a level look meeting his bemused sidelong glance "She was hardly expounding the virtues of the stuff, merely making idle comment if I recall correctly." not that the Weyrwoman said anything that had idle intent. Green eyes settle back on the fisherman leaving talk of the High Reaches weyr and her inhabitants for later discussions. "You'd look at the eggs for their pretty patterns?" her words holding dry humour "Well better that then not at all. Those eggs..." the pause given to ensure her next words were taken seriously "....are the future Guardians of the Skies." "I have nothing to forgive you for," R'hin counters, easy tones accompanied by an even look. "As you said, it is to Igen you owe your... gratitude." His attention wanders, hand brushing over his closely cropped hair as eyes go distant for a moment. Abruptly, "We're needed back at the 'Reaches," pale eyes settle on Shanlee, silent query in them. "Raykini, I hope your boat finds water sooner than it does Thread." An odd choice of words, delivered with the 'Reachian bronzerider's easy tones. Leiventh> I bespoke Kaylith with « We are needed, but R'hin says you and yours are welcome to stay, should you wish to talk further with this boy. » Leiventh senses that Kaylith's reply is slow in return, first taking consultation with her rider « No, we shall accompany you and yours back home. » small relief for their return home evident. Leiventh> Kaylith senses that Leiventh acknowledges that, unspoken approval lacing his tones. Home, too, is a more welcoming thought for the bronze. He'd been trying to be nice, really. Hadn't he been talking to them in a fairly civilized manner? Deciding it wasn't really worth his concern, Ray shakes his head slowly, running a hand through his hair. "As I said, I've not been inland too much. Dragons are for candidates, and riders like you fine people." He turns his attention to the weyr, "We've expressed our gratitude quite enough, we've even given the weyr what little we'd managed to catch at sea, and my father is currently trying to set up a program where we will be delivering our catch here so that the weyr might enjoy something fresh." A soft nod is given, "Well met riders. Clear skies to you both." Not having much more to add herself, the nod of agreement to the silent query from R'hin is curt in it's delivery from Shan. Turning back to Raykini, approval showing for his and his father's efforts to repay Igen for it's hospitality. "It is has been interesting making both your and your boat's acquaintance." a slow curl of lips afforded the lad "May the skies remain clear over it." then turning to R'hin "Shall we?" with regards to their departure. A little smile graces R'hin's lips, giving a silent nod in turn towards Shanlee. Raykini's comment draws his attention, a quiet little murmur echoing, "Us fine people," faint amusement in his voice, though he does offer the curtesy of a tip of head towards the fisherman. "Best of luck, Raykini of the seas." Once more, he is the gentleman, falling into step with the greenrider, a hand moving to hover over her elbow in escort back to where Kaylith and Leiventh are settled. Raykini doesn't really say anything more, instead, he turns towards the safety of his beloved boat. Quickly taking up his hammer and nails and proceeding to try and repair the silly thing again. Better to get back to the sea where he belongs, after all, than sit in the middle of the desert where water is a rarity." Once again, Shan allows R'hin to escort her back to their lifemate's a backward glance over her shoulder for Raykini as steps draw them further away. "Interesting tale that." is all comment allowed once they arrive and the habitual checking of straps and firestone sacks is made before swinging herself up between emerald green neckridges. R'hin's low, wordless chuckle is his only response to Shanlee, watching the greenrider climb up before he heads for Leiventh. Moments later, the pair spring aloft together, and disappear between soon after. You clamber up onto Leiventh's back, using his foreleg as a step. » Shanlee hops up onto Kaylith's back, the dragon's sparkling eyes watching closely. You spring into the air of the Bowl! » Kaylith wings up from the Center of the Bowl. » Leiventh disappears into Between. |
