"Who would have thought you would be a dragonrider, eh?"

That caramel-thick-and-sweet voice is as familiar to V'ros as breathing. He wasn't sure when the messenger handed him the note if it was some sick joke - or twist of his imagination. But no, standing before him in flesh and blood, is his brother, Valrix.

"What? Can't even say hello?"

It's a true grin that breaks the weyrling's usually austere face as he launches himself at his brother. He embraces him happy, heartily.

"Hey hey hey, not in public."

Short lived, but gratifying. Valrix brushes himself off, looking around guilty to see if anyone noticed the unusual, awkward hug. V'ros is still grinning broadly, fidgety, as if he isn't sure what to do with his hands.

"How's father?" is the eager question, and the response is slow, unhurried with a hint of amusement. "Ruddy good as usual. Says you could have at least Impressed a bronze, brought some honor to your family - not that riding is any kind of honor, if you ask me."

V'ros might look disappointed, save the earnest, concerned expression that precedes his next question. "And.. Sterne?"

Valrix whistles, low, shaking his head. "Not sure what you did to piss him off, brother, but he might kill you if you ever step foot on our soil again." That does, indeed, cause a frown.

"Listen, just came to say hello and goodbye. You might have been alone before, brother, but now you're really alone--" as the not-much-older man presses a packaged bundle into V'ros's hands, a bit of chagrin showing in his smile.

V'ros is left to stare after Valrix, his hands squeezing the package tightly. No goodbye escapes his lips - it's too hard to say.

This is likely as much closure as V'ros is gonna get for now. I hope it's enough-- and it was nice to see what his family thought of his impression. And that Valrix could manage to be nice-ish for a few minutes. :)
