It's not late but it's after when most of the Weyr's population has finished dinner and, at least Teris might be hoping, when certain people have retired for now. The blonde is holding a bottle as she knocks on the door, not looking entirely comfortable in the skirt that she's wearing instead of her more usual trousers. Her hair is even down.

Inside the weyr, all sounds of life come to a halt for a few moments, in the wake of that knock. Then, finally, there's the sound of footsteps, before the door opens to reveal a surprised-looking K'del already beginning to say something: "Thought you weren't com--" He breaks off, staring openly at Teris; he frowns. "Teris?" Unspoken: what are you doing here?

"K'del," Teris returns his name with a smile, sounding much less surprised and rightly so. "Are you busy?" she asks, trying to look past him with a discreet glance. "If this is a bad time, I can come back some other time." She doesn't really hide the bottle behind her back but she's probably trying to make it a little less obvious.

Slowly, and still with a frown, K'del admits, "No, I'm not. Thought you-- never mind. Er." At this moment? He doesn't look much like a seducer of anyone, let alone someone socially competent, even, though no doubt bare feet and untucked-in shirt aren't doing much to help. "Come in?" He even swings the door open a bit more, helpfully, though that must be by instinct: so confused, so very, very confused.

"Were you expecting someone else?" she wonders out loud as she moves through the helpfully opened door past the Weyrleader and toward the sitting area. Looking around curiously, she seems relatively impressed. "Shells. You know, you sort of expect it with the weyrwomen. But you have it pretty made here. Do you like wine?" she asks the last as an entirely separate thought, returning her gaze to the bronzerider and shifting her hand holding the bottle.

Running a hand through his hair as he follows Teris into the weyr, K'del lets out an awkward little laugh. "Right, yeah, it's not bad. Bigger than what I'm used to, anyway." That's the easy one to answer, but to his credit, he doesn't pause before he continues, "No, not expecting anyone, not tonight. S'why I was surprised to see you." And most of his night visitors probably don't knock. But; "You'd think, given my family grows grapes, that I'd be a big wine drinker, but... not really. I'll have some, though." Hurriedly. Politely. With a smile, even. "You... want to sit down? I'll get some glasses."

Teris won't go thinking too much about his night visitors. She moves to sit herself down on the sofa, eyeing the bottle carefully. "Thanks." For the glasses. "What do you like, then?" she asks curiously. "Seems like something I should know, maybe." The blonde settles herself comfortably, one leg crossed over the other and a hand smoothing her skirt over her thigh. "Does your family get a discount on wine at all?"

K'del busies himself with fetching said glasses, eventually setting them down upon the coffee table in front of the sofa; he takes a seat in one of the arm chairs, turning his gaze back to Teris. "Whiskey," he says, promptly. "Beer. Rum, sometimes. Why's it something you should know?" He's back to looking confused, though he manages to add, "Sure. Partly, though, because of some of my in-laws, who run a winery."

Glasses there, Teris pulls the stopper out of the bottle and pours a bit for each of them before setting the bottle aside. "If we're going to be friendly, I ought to know what you like to drink. Besides, Tiriana might need to know sometime and I'm not sure she's very up on having to remember anything you like herself." That seems to amuse the blonde and she's smiling when she offers one of the glasses to K'del, taking the other and sitting back. "That's handy. I wish I had relatives that ran a winery."

"Can't imagine why Tiriana'd need to know," says K'del, though otherwise, he seems to have accepted this explanation with a nod. "You've got to have picked up already, from working with her, that she doesn't much care for me. Rather think she'd be more inclined to deliberately make me drink things I /don't/ like." Teris' smile draws a more hesitant one from the bronzerider, as he accepts the glass, sliding it between one hand and the other as he agrees, "Guess so. Never thought too much about it." Beat. "Why'd you drop in, Teris? Something up?"

"I think 'doesn't much care for you' might be a slight understatement, actually," Teris admits in a light but thoughtful tone before taking a small sip from her glass. "She's not happy over all this stuff going on, you know. I'm sure you know, of course. Anyway, I was wondering how long it would take you to ask." She says that with a smile. A real smile, too, if not outright cheerful. "Mostly, I'd been thinking about what you said and I agree that we should be friendly. So I'm being friendly."

Wryly; "I know." K'del shakes his head, adding, "Be bad form for me to say anything about what I think about her being happy or not, especially in front of her assistant, but there it is. She's not happy; but then, so what's new?" He gives his glass a glance, but avoids actually sipping from it as yet, instead turning his attention towards Teris' reason for being here. "Being friendly. Right. Well... good. I'm glad."

"Am I making you nervous or something?" Teris asks, uncrossing her legs and moving to the edge of the sofa, resting an elbow against the arm as she watches K'del. "You don't seem very comfortable. I didn't come here trying to make you uncomfortable, I promise." Her blue eyes slip toward his glass briefly but they don't linger and she casts her gaze toward the hearth like it's something worth studying.

"No." K'del's answer comes quickly-- too quickly? But no, his shake of the head seems genuine enough, as does his smile. "You surprised me, but I reckon I'm probably getting over that, now. I'm... glad you came, actually. That you want to be friends. Think it's a good thing." His very first sip of wine might be intended to emphasise that. He swallows without making a face, too, go him.

"Friendly," Teris corrects but not unkindly. "Lets take that one step at a time, eh?" She's looking back at him when he takes his sip but since there's no face, she doesn't think much of it. "So now that we're friendly," she begins, taking another sip before setting her glass down. She sits up straighter and continues quite matter-of-factly, "Do you think there's anything wrong with my breasts?"

K'del is apparently unbothered by the correction - even amused, perhaps, though it's hard to know for sure since, aside from his expression, he never exactly responds to it. He gets close, almost certainly, but before he has the chance to actually say anything, Teris comes out with her question and he's left reeling. "... What?" It's a belated answer, after a double take that nearly has him spilling his wine. "Is that a trick question? Like, if I have an answer, I've obviously been staring, and you'll get pissy?"

Laughing, Teris shakes her head. "It's not a trick... Although, I should probably tell you, I might have let someone believe that we've, uh, been together. I hope you don't mind." That's quick, in case he does and she continues on quickly, too, "They said that even if you did think there was something wrong with them, that you'd be too polite to say so." Or something like that. "Are you? Too polite."

There's no immediate reaction to her little piece of news, but as Teris finishes speaking, his mouth opens almost immediately. "Too polite? Hardly. But maybe a little disappointing... I happen to like /breasts/, much more than I like breasts of a specific size, shape or... anything, really. Yours are fine." Beat. "Why'd you let someone believe we'd slept together, Teris?" It's said softly, calmly. "And who was it? Feel like I ought to know, if I'm possibly going to get cornered with it."

Where that might have made her a little pissy a few sevendays ago, right now Teris smiles at his answer and says simply, "Good." She glances down at them herself, then reaches for her glass again and settles back. She takes a sip while she considers her answer. "It was P'ax. He was being all... difficult." Possibly not really the word she thinks fits best but it's the one that comes to mind. "It was... easier, I guess."

K'del seems-- relieved? As though he must have been anticipating a bad reaction, whatever Teris said. He, too, takes another long sip of his drink, then transfers it to his other hand as he adds, "P'ax. Ah. He's... he can be a bit difficult, yes." Difficult. They can stick with that word, regardless. "Pretty sure he thinks I sleep with people indiscriminantly anyway, so it hardly matters. Easy enough." Beat. "This'd be the point where I invited you to make it not-a-lie, except we've already agreed that I won't chase you, so-- just letting you know, that I'm avoiding it, you know?"

"Are you saying you don't sleep with people indiscriminately?" Teris asks, her interest suddenly piqued for one reason or another. "He called me titless," she says, still not exactly upset but it does draw her gaze back down with a small frown. "I'm still not sure he meant it as an insult," she adds with a hint of uncertainty that's not a common thing in her voice. The last makes her look at K'del again, however, and she draws in a breath, thinking, before offering, "It's not just you, you know. I don't-- I've never-- Not with anyone. So. I appreciate it."

Calmly; "I sleep with people I'm attracted to." Which may or may not be the same thing, though K'del does seem to think there's a distinction. "People who interest me, mostly." Answering that gives him a moment to work through the rest of what she says, though aside from a brief parting of his lips, his reactions are not terribly visible. "Oh," he says, finally. "Well-- we'll leave it alone, then, promise. Got no interest in pressuring anyone into anything. Ever." Beat. "He may not have. P'ax, I mean. Bit of a stupid thing to say, though; you've definitely got some."

Teris smiles all around. Isn't this just terribly pleasant! "Thank you, K'del. You're not so bad." As though she was expecting otherwise from this visit. "Do you mind, though, going along with it? If anyone says anything? Me and you... you know? I mean, I don't usually just go around telling people that I haven't or anything and I don't plan on going around saying that I have either. Just, well, do you mind anyway?"

Terribly pleasant. /Terribly/. Though, actually, K'del seems quite comfortable, by now. "'Not so bad'. Go me?" His head shakes as he continues, "Don't mind. Not my way to go blabbing on about things, particularly things that... personal things." It's kind of a lame summation, but it works. "I'll go along with it, no problem." At which point he leaves that topic behind, assaying into a less personal discussion of-- well, various things. Nothing that would terribly interest Tiriana, though.
