(First part)

Lujayn caught the flash of white bandaging, but doesn't press it. "Looks like they're already bandaged up, just wait for 'em to heal and you'll have some good calluses to work with." She smiles. "I heard they're planning a bonfire night, and I want to find a good story to tell." Staring down the book again, brows furrowed. "I might end up making something up; everyone's heard these before."

Viviana makes a face at Leova's back as the girl heads off, mocking her suggestion. "Next time, pad them first. Gee, I never thought of that." Hurumph. "Seamstresses usually don't shovel or clean stables or have storeroom's collapse around them on a regular basis. So I know I'm weaker than the rest, no need to rub it in." The bonfire does tempt her out of her funk but just barely and she raises a brow in interest. "Do stories and bonfires go together here? Back home, we'd dance to the drums or something. Not that we got many bonfires, maybe at turnend What sort of story? I don't know many beyond the basic ones we are taught."

Lujayn shakes her head, watching Leova go. "Maybe Aleudre would tailor the gloves, make them smaller? Less blisters that way." She's relieved to change the subject, energized by the thought of a party. "Yeah, maybe there'd be dancing. You could ask the coordinators, organize a troupe?" She shifts the book so that Viviana can look on at the same time, still flipping its pages every so often. "I want to tell something funny, maybe about firelizards." Lu decides after a moment. "Nothing scary."

Both brows shoot up now and anger fuels her past exhaustion. "/Aleudre?/?" She barely contains a shriek. "Aleudre? Why would /he/ have to do alterations on /my/ gloves? I am every bit as skilled as he is but I'm so exhausted by the end of a day I can't see straight to thread a needle. And organize a troupe?" Her tone lowers to normalcy. "I was thinking more of a one on one sort of dance, not some sort of complicated thing." She glances over at the pages, marveling at the book. "We don't see many of those back home, just hides. But scary is fun, makes you want to be nice and close..to others."

"He's a tailor," Lujayn reasons, surprised at Viviana's vehement reaction. "You can borrow it if you want. I've read it so many times over, looking at it is just a formality." A small blush, but Lu is inclined to agree. "I try not to think about that. How could dancing with boys be more fun than anything else I could be doing?" Not accusingly, she continues curiously. "You're always flirty and stuff. Doesn't that get in the way?"

Viviana hrumphs. "And what am I? A duster? I'm a seamstress and a good one, an excellent one, even my superiors here at the Reaches gave me credit for the work I did... Aleudre is no weaver, he's just a seamster by another name. I don't see any weaver knot on his shoulder." With a sigh, not of envy but wistfulness, she does look at the book again. "Only the Lord Holder had such a nice book where I am from. I'd be worried about getting the pages dirty.." She blinks, startled by the question. "Get in the way of what? How could flirting ever be getting in the way of anything? It's just ..fun and there's a difference between flirting and being a tease. Now being a tease, that'll get in your way."

Lujayn watches Viviana, quietly listening, but she does push the book towards the other girl. "You think? I never even tried." Though she's past seventeen turns, there are bits of life Lu feels unfamiliar with. "I'm like a boy, really, I haven't much curve and all I do is run...nothing ladylike." She shrugs, turning thoughts around in her mind. "Aren't you worried that flirting would give people the wrong impression?"

Viviana blinks, confused."I don't try to flirt, it just comes naturally. If it didn't then it'd be ..silly. But boys are nice to talk to and to look at, don't you agree? Unless you like girls more?" She shrugs, her past miff momentarily forgotten. "I'd give anything to have a bit more height myself, so many boys look at me like a cute little canine puppy and wrong impression of what?" She's definitely confused now. "N'thei called me a tease but I heard from other people that his insult was mild compared to his usual ways of dealing with people. It's just harmless.. a hobby, if you like?"

Lujayn smiles hesitantly. "I like boys. But it doesn't matter when you're as tall as most of them and haven't got bosoms to speak of." Unabashed, she continues with her dialogue. "I'd like to flirt, I guess, it just doesn't feel natural. So it's strange when I have to watch everyone else doing it."

Viviana loses interest with the book, looking her fellow candidate over. "Tall and thin, you could wear dresses well but long legged trousers will have the boys looking your way more. And just talking to them, being interested in what they say, that's a good start. I mean, I don't know /anything/ about runners but the stable hand doesn't know that and he dimples so cute when he's all excited about tack and bridles and all that So I just look at him through my lashes..." She demonstrates how with a slow upsweep of her eyes. "like so... and then I ask if he can demonstrate what he's talking about -- that usually gets him all protective and proud. Boys like thinking they are smarter than they are.. it's adorable!" She means it too, her eyes flash with fondness and there isn't a manipulative tone in her voice.

Lujayn listens as earnestly as Viviana is speaking, suddenly faced with a model female and hearing what feel like trade secrets. "So you think they'd notice me if I did that?" She tries batting her lashes, said long legs stretching out in front of her. "I never thought there was a trick to it like that." Lu pauses, looking over at Viviana. "This lad in the stables, then- you like him, right?"

Viviana frowns. "I wouldn't call it a trick. A trick is like you are trying to fool someone, like those traders and their shell games. I lost a sixteenth mark on them once. I won't do that again. But you want to show you are interested, that's important." She demonstrates the lash routine again. "Not like a bovine, more like, think of .." She purses her lips, trying to find the words. "Like your lashes are curtains that you allow to slowly raise so people can look into your eyes and you got nice eyes, you know." With a casual shrug, Vivy admits. "Sure I do, but I like a lot of people, He's fun, fun to talk to and fun to listen to."

"I always thought flirting was for when you actually liked someone.." Lujayn reasons, grinning wryly over the lost sixteenth. "For fun," She repeats. That's one word Lu can understand in all this new information, giggling at the compliment. "Thanks." Curtains? If eyes are windows... "No one ever told me, I guess. About all this." Suddenly feeling a little immature and inept compared to the experienced Viviana, she flushes. "But you're right, a lot of people /are/ fun. Maybe next time I have mucking duty I'll find your stable boy." The girl teases.

Viviana shakes her head and laughs. "He's not my stable boy, he's a friend and I do like him but I mean, I'm a candidate, I can't really /like/ like anyone, right? He likes the game too, it's all innocent. I wouldn't dare try it on someone older than me, they play the game for real. And I..." It's her turn to blush as she admits. "N'thei was right, I was awful to that brownriding boy, he's not much older than me. I shouldn't have ever listened to the older girls back at the hold, they said I had to do such things so I'd survive here." With a shake of her head, she declares. "If it's fun for both people then that's one thing. When it's not, then that's not fun." She nods to make her point. "Got it?" And in a whisper, she further discloses. "I've never been with a boy in that sort of way and I don't know how to play /that/ game."

"Got it," Lujayn doesn't have trouble understanding where the line lies, interested in what Vivy is saying about her earlier mishap. "Yeah, I heard about that. At least you won't do it again." Taking the book and brushing dirt from its cover, she smiles in conspiration with the secret. "Me neither. I've never liked anyone that much, anyhow." Lu shifts, glancing up at the sun. "Want to get something from the kitchens? I'm parched."

Viviana blushes. "You heard about that? Oh shells, all around the weyr, I suppose. But you'll never know if you like someone unless you talk to them." With a yawn, she stretches. "I'm going to go have a nap, then see if I can try to alter this gloves again with these bandages on my fingers. I won't let Aleudre lord it over me again, he's a porcine snob. I'll talk to you later over supper maybe?"

Lujayn hops up, bending over to stretch fingers to toes. "Good luck," She calls after the other candidate, grinning at the porcine remark as she turns towards the living caverns with a wave. "Definitely see you later."
