Snowasis, High Reaches Weyr

The Snowasis is rarely quiet, and even then, the high-ceilinged former weyr is kept from echoing by the fantastical booths tucked into its convoluted perimeter. The secluded seating spaces have been shaped from the truncated stalagmites that escaped the smoothing of the main floor, and are both softened and separated by colorful hangings that are thick and opaque enough to make each corner its own private nook.

Some of the smaller stalactites still roam the ceiling, their jagged teeth tracing a bumpy, inverted spine to the hearth. There, a thick rug with a low klah table and comfortable armchairs and couches sit, their upholstery and cushions changed sporadically to match the season: bright, light colors in the summer, fresh greens and yellows in the spring, warm autumnals in fall, and clear, rich hues for winter. Small tables litter the rest of the cavern, enough to fit up to four people each, while stools stand along the smooth wooden bar behind which is the passthrough window to the kitchen. Glass-paneled cabinetry behind the bar provides a clear view of the available liquors, the many colors reflecting the soft light of glows tucked into strategic niches around the cavern.

What else is new? It's a cold winter night at High Reaches. However the Snowasis is warm and there's a fair amount of people inside enjoying the hearth in the back. With the weyrlings having less restrictions now than they'be enjoyed almost all of their training, there's quite a few of them here as well. Sabella has curled up on one of the couches, absent of either one of her usually close friends this evening. On the little table in front of her she has a steaming mug, her notebook laid out in front of her. She doesn't sketch with any particular focus, she's just freehand doodling as she people watches.

Steering decidedly clear of alcohol, N'ky orders himself nothing more exciting than a mug of klah before searching out a seat by the warmth of the hearth. Sabella's spotted, and he weaves his way through the bar's crowd until he's by her side, clasping his mug in both hands in front of him, looking hopefully down at her. "C-can I join you, Sabs?" He tilts his head to the empty space beside her, smiling with crooked shyness.

She spots N'ky at some point while he moves around the bar, so she doesn't seem surprised to see him approach her. The greenrider pushes the hair that falls into her eyes out of the way, shifting so he can sit without having her feet right there. "Of course." Sabs glances at the mug of klah in his hand smiles gently, faint amusement still for the condition he was in the other day. "How're you feeling?"

"Cold," N'ky admits as he sits down, perched on the edge of the couch and hunching over with his elbows on his knees. "I think it's all the going between. I feel c-cold all the time." He draws a sip from his klah, then sighs and leans back into the couch, head canted towards Sabella. "How about you? How do you like b-being wingleader?"

"Maybe you need another sweater?" Sabella suggests, plucking at the sleeves of her own oversized one. "I haven't noticed anything lingering, except maybe in my arm." She twists around until her comfortably curled form is facing him, notebook tucked against her chest. "I'm good. And being wingleader is better than being wingsecond." Especially that part where she's not walking around in a cast this time.

"I liked it, when it was my turn." N'ky nods, curling his legs up so he, too, is facing Sabella more than before. He drinks from his klah again, both hands still curled around the mug to steal its warmth. "I broke my fingers when I was younger." Three, from middle to pinky, are wiggled on his left hand. "A r-runner stood on them. They ache a little when I go between, but my nose doesn't. I've broken that once before, too." He rubs over the little bump in the bridge of said featuring, shrugging. "Do you still have plans to go to Ista?"

"You and Alida made a really good run of it. Even if I may have given my free drinks to Telavi." It's true, the Snowasis isn't a place that Sabs usually frequents. She glances to his hand and then to the little bump on the bridge of his nose. Curiously she asks, "How did you break your nose?" As for the trip to Ista, she smiles slowly at him. "I'd still like to go if you'd want to. I'm not sure who else is coming along, but at least there'd be the two of us?" That's not so bad, right?

N'ky gets a gently blush upon his cheeks at the complement, and he bites down on his shy smile. "Alida was the b-best wingsecond. She's awesome." That blush maybe deepens just a little, and he's quickly clearing his throat to answer the question posed to him. "Oh. Um, I, er, g-got kicked by an ovine." He winces in embarrassment, but explains further; "I p-picked her up wrong, and she struggled, and, um, as she jumped d-down she clipped me real good with her hoof." His balled fist bumps off the point where the break was, and he shrugs. "I-I'd still like to go. But... b-but would, um, E'sren be h-happy if it was just you and me?"

"That's good to know." Sabella comments, flickering her gaze to the deepening blush on his cheeks. Her own smile turns up further, pulled at the corners with more of that faint amusement. At his explanation, she winces. "Oh, that sounds like it must have hurt. Ouch." Out of sympathy pain she reaches up and rubs the bridge of her own nose. "Well, he'd be invited. If he decided not to come and it was just me and you? That's his own feelings he'd have to sort out if he was upset. But I would be surprised if he was, you know?"

"Woollies hurt more when they kick; that ewe j-just got lucky, bec-cause I wasn't p-paying attention." N'ky shrugs softly again, then latches onto the other point of conversation. "Um... h-has Ahruth chased yet?" Clearly not something he's overly keen on discussing, but N'ky charges on with it anyway. "D-Darcielth.... he c-caught a green. Um... so... s-so April was w-with her rider, and, um... h-how will you feel when it's E'sren? I... um... I d-didn't know wh-what to feel, because we're, um, we're n-not a thing with no o-other, um, th-things, if you know what I, um, mean?"

"I haven't ever had anything kick me in the face, so I don't have anything to compare it to." Sabella continues along conversationally, a bit of surprise widening her eyes when he charges on with the other topic. "Oh." Clearing her throat now, "No, he hasn't." Her shoulders lift ineffectually and she smiles tightly, "I- I haven't given it a lot of thought. It's not something that I particularly enjoy imagining, so. Yeah." Canting her head to consider him, "How do you feel about it now?"

N'ky chews on his lip as he thinks that through. "I th-think, um... a little jealous, b-but not because she was w-with someone else. More b-because she, um, g-got to experience it? I'm n-not sure exactly what I feel. M-maybe it's because I know she w-was e-enjoying herself with s-someone else? And, um, I d-don't know if I can h-have that with her, and... it's all c-confusing. I don't know." He bites on his lip again, until he drinks deeply from his klah. Then, after a thoughtful moment; "I th-think I'm scared of wh-what will happen when Cailluneth rises."

Whatever is in that mug on the table, she reaches for it now. Careful not to knock it around and get any on her notebook, she leans back once more and takes a long drink. "You could posssibly have that with her. If Darcielth were to catch Cailluneth, it could happen." Sabs is at least not ruling out the idea that it could happen. "I don't think there's anything to be afraid of. She'd never lead you to a place that you couldn't handle." She sounds as if she at least partially believes that to be true.

"It's not her part that scares me," N'ky admits sheepishly. "It's the b-bit that comes after, and the who." He finishes off what klah he's got left, swallowing it down with a loud gulp. "Th-there's... there's someone whose d-dragon I'm hoping will catch her. I... I w-want the first time to be with them. I-it would feel safe." Fingers ease up around his empty mug, and he sighs softly, shrugging one shoulder. "But there's time enough before that's a m-more, um, p-pressing issue, right? And Cailluneth says Darcielth's just dropped April off, so, um, I've g-gotta go meet her." He gives Sabella's nearest ankle a delicate little pat before he gets to his feet. "See you tomorrow, Sabs? H-have a good night."

"Sure. You have a good night too." Sabella lifts a hand and gives the other greenrider a wiggle of her fingers before clutching them around her mug again. Since he's on his way out the door, she'll wait until he's just about gone before exhaling deeply and likely hoping that he doesn't notice. And then there's another deep drink before her grip begins to loosen again.

N'ky doesn't notice - or, if he does, he's too caught up in his own thoughts to broach it with Sabs. He returns her finger-wiggle, dropping his mug off at the bar before heading out into the cold night.
