| After he left, Shani allowed herself the luxury of some more time alone in bed, some time to hate herself for caring about anyone enough for any of it to matter. That took a little while; it branched out to other reasons to hate herself, it extended. Then she hated him for awhile, for not being perfect, though he'd managed to be more so than anyone ought to have been, given all the secrets she'd burdened him with. But that went away. The worry didn't, that it'd been too much; that she'd shown too much; that - even though she knew, quite rationally, that it hadn't even been an argument, let alone something to lose her head over - things would start to unravel. As if hours could mean that much more than turns. Then she told herself to get the fuck over it and get up. And she did. Maybe not totally. Not just like that. Iesaryth was still in a stormy sulk in her head, and she didn't think she'd stop feeling an edge of anxiety for a little while. But she made herself look as perfect as humanly possible and went out and did her job like nothing bothered her. Like she always did. But seriously, it seemed like Cadejoth managed to catch every other fucking dragon at the Weyr... But this once, no... |
