| At least the rider that brings Yvalia up to Reisoth's ledge has the sense to wait for the girl as she steps toward Reisoth's wallow, calling uncertainty, "Uncle Havi?" It's only the middle of the night, of course, still a few hours before dawn. It's no seemly time for a girl of seven to be coming up to the ledge wrapped in her winter cloak, bedtime braids and nightgown visible beneath. It's probably Reisoth that awakens his rider rather than the girl. He's kind of a heavy sleeper after drinking himself to sleep. But once his lifemate relays the identity of their visitor, H'vier appears. "Vali? What're you doing here?" "See? It's fine." She tells the bluerider with all the authority of a seven turn old. Then she's appealing to H'vier, "Tell him it's fine. You're my uncle and you'll bring me down and see me safely to the nannies." In the middle of the night. Probably, Yvalia snuck out, and might not have been noticed but for the necessity of an elevator dragon. H'vier glances at the bluerider, confused for a moment. And then dismissive as he says, "It's fine," and waves a hand to send the pair off. He bends down to scoop the girl up into his arms and turns to head back inside where it's warm. "Your mother isn't going to be happy if you start making a habit of this, darling. What's the occasion?" Yvalia is either clever or lucky, for it's one of H'vier's Iceberg blueriders that she found to bring her up and as such the man only hesitates briefly before nodding and departing the ledge. Vali's arms go around H'vier's neck in the manner of once used to being picked up, for all that she's really getting to be a Big Girl now and doesn't often get this sort of treatment. "Mom's busy. That's why I'm here." Her brow crinkles as she tries to figure out matters beyond her. "I don't think she wants you to know," the little girl has enough sense to sound apologetic about that, "but the baby's coming now." The last makes H'vier pause and look at Yvalia, brows furrowed for a moment, then something... more excited is obvious in his expression. It fades somewhat as he continues toward his bed, but not entirely. "You probably shouldn't be here telling me if she doesn't want me to know," he scolds very mildly, almost teasingly. "But you're a good girl, aren't you. Thank you, Vali." Yvalia blinks wide blue eyes at him, "But don't you want to be--" She starts, but then he is telling her she did well and she beams. "I'm supposed to go be with the nannies." She bites her lip, "They took her to the infirmary. When it started. The healer was mad." Or at least not pleased, but interpreted by a girl of seven? Mad. "I heard him say it's too soon." And she looks duly worried. "I don't want to stay with the nannies." But she's probably a little too young to witness the Oh-So-Natural-and-"Beautiful" process that is childbirth. If Tayte has hopes of grandchildren one day. But then, she has another daughter. "I do," admits H'vier. "I want to be there. But." He pauses as he sets her down on the bed. "I'm not sure being there would be good for the baby. Or your mother." It makes him frown, a flicker of worry on his face before he can school it, but what's he going to do about it? "Why not stay with your father?" Is that just a subtle way of asking the girl if she knows whether the other bronzerider is with her mother? Maybe. Yvalia flinches when H'vier asks that last. She's not a stupid girl and H'vier hasn't exactly always been quiet about his dislike of her father, so the flinch is probably telling enough, even before she says very softly, "Mama wanted him to hold her hand. So she wouldn't be alone." And even quieter, "Mama was scared. When it started." She tilts her head so it rests on H'vier's shoulder, hiding her face there for a few moments, probably hoping not to see any of his anticipated anger. He's definitely not happy about that. But he's not very happy about any of it. And, well, H'vier has been doing his best to make Tayte hate him for awhile, so it's not like he can be surprised by the news. Instead of saying anything angry at the girl, he asks, "Do you want to stay here tonight?" "I..." She thinks about it, lifting her head. "Do you think-- maybe we should go wait near where I'm supposed to be, just in case someone comes looking?" Yvalia's concern probably isn't for getting caught at this point, but rather... the way her young face is wrinkled with worry, it's 'what if something goes wrong?' "Reisoth can tell Cadejoth where you are. And if anything happens, he can let us know." H'vier looks at Yvalia. "Unless you'd rather wait in the infirmary. But it's more comfortable here." And even if Tayte is probably in a lot of pain, that doesn't mean they have to be. Yvalia looks uncertain still, "Do you think that's a good idea?" Reisoth telling Cadejoth. Then, "Should we go get Tavi?" "Why wouldn't it be?" She came to him, after all. It's not like H'vier went and kidnapped her. "If Tavi is with the nannies, she should be fine where she is. She's probably asleep." And one never wakes a sleeping toddler. Yvalia is still uncertain, but she's at that age that, ultimately, when an adult says it's okay, it usually is. So she waits with Uncle H'vier. She stays awake as long as she can, but eventually, she surrenders to sleep. The wee hours pass, and in the morning, there's finally word. The baby is here! |
