Main Hallway - Healer Hall

This is a good-sized hallway, running from north to south. Paintings adorn the walls, lit from below by the light of glowbaskets, depicting the likenesses of past CraftMasters: Capiam, Gelsey, Ceridwen, Michael, Alsten, Dwane, Tess, Judith, Thalia, and Ayanne. A new fixture has been added, where a portrait yet to arrive will be displayed.

Doorways open from this hall leading to many rooms. Eastwards lies the Main Entrance of Healer Hall, and immediately westwards is the Lounge. In the north end of the hallway, solid doors open eastwards to the Infirmary. To the west, double doors lead to the Dining Hall, and the Kitchen doors are at the north end. To the south, one can find the Lecture Hall on the eastern side, and the Nursery for youngsters on the west. Further south the hall leads to Harper Hall.

A short, feminine form in shirt and pants makes its way down the long hallway, looking about as if searching for someone in specific. There is nothing identifiable about her person except for the cords of a senior apprentice Smith at her shoulder, and maybe an expression of discomfort. Appearing a touch hesitant, the woman swipes eyes back and forth, looking busy when someone she *doesn't* want to speak with walks by.

A class of perhaps fifteen or twenty apprentices erupts from the Lecture Hall at about this point, most streaming towards the Dining Hall, though a few head in other directions. One of these is Madilla, a relatively tall girl of about fourteen, who, clutching her books and supplies with both arms, begins to make her way towards the Main Entrance, instead. This takes her past Caitlyn; the girl hesitates, frowning, and then asks - "Are you all right there? Can I find someone for you?"

Caitlyn look up when addressed, and gives the healer apprentice a rough little smile - waiting for the gaggle of others to pass well down the hallway before she addresses Madilla again. "Hiya. Uh...well, now that you mention it, not really." Through her strained grin, a light alto lightly cuts - not in alot of pain, but enough to affect her. "Senior apprentice Lyn." A quick breath. "I'm far away from home, as you can see. Project I'm working on around the area. And I ran out of my medicine." Wince. "Daft of me to let it run down, but I got wrapped up." Eyeroll. "Nothing serious. Just whatever it is I got for these damned burning pains in my stomach. Maybe you could fetch it for me?"

"Junior Apprentice Madilla, well met," says the healer apprentice, though her words are rushed - she's apparently far more concerned with Caitlyn's pain than silly introductions. "Stomach pains, you say?" She sounds more business-like, in this, taking a few steps closer to consider the other woman. "Do you know what it is you usually have? I can-- I mean, of course I'll help. I just need to make sure I'm giving you the right thing. I'm only a Junior Apprentice, see."

Caitlyn seems to retain just enough formality to smile weakly, and hold out her hand to the young woman. "Madilla. Nice to meet you." Wince. "Yeah. The Healer back at home said something like little sores on it from being too tightly wound up on nerves. If that helps any. Don't know the name for them." Cue another eyeroll. "The stuff they gave me wasn't anything ridiculously dangerous - y'know, like fellis or anything. Just herbs to quiet the thing down, quiet the pain, heal it up." A friendly smile, a quick wave of hand at Madilla's rank. "This stuff takes no Journeyman's mind to figure out, I was told."

Madilla accepts the hand as offered, shaking it, though her thoughts are obviously elsewhere: she's concentrating very hard. "Does it taste a bit like licorice?" she wants to know, expression half convinced, and still half hesitant. "I think I know the stuff, but I just-- I wouldn't want to give you the wrong thing, because I got it wrong. I do know the herbs though. If it is what I think it is, I know I can get it." She gives Caitlyn a hopeful, nervous glance.

Caitlyn gives a more relaxed, reassuring smile to Madilla - through the occasional wince. "It does," she quickly agrees, looking relieved. "A mostly pleasant tasting brew, for once." A quick lilt of laughter is cut off by another wince. "Listen...I know I'm probably asking much of you. If you don't want to do this, I'll just leave, okay? Not your fault I'm daft and away from home."

"Oh, good," Madilla sounds relieved. "It's the licorice and chamomile mixture, then." She echoes Caitlyn's wince in sympathy, hurriedly shaking her head. "No, no, I wouldn't do that to you. You're in pain, and I /can/ help. That's what I'm supposed to do. Let me run and get it... Can I find you somewhere to sit? Or do you need anything else while I do it? I'm just surprised you didn't go straight to the infirmary, is all. But of course I'll help."

Another soft sigh of ultimate relief from the woman, her eyes all misty with not only pain, but that relief. A clearing of throat. "Jaaays...thank you Madilla. You're my rescuer, you are." Wince. "It doesn't pain me all the time, just when I get worked up." A quick shake of her dark, braided head. "No-no. I'll just hold up the wall over here until you get back." A quick grin of light humor. "Well, if you can make me a batch that will last a few sevens, I'd be forever grateful. I had to get flown in from the backwaters to accomplish this much, and I don't want to put out my masters and the riders anymore than necessary." A wink of knowing humor is shared with the other apprentice - 'Lyn' waggling her own lesser knot a moment. Pests to their elders. "I was making my way to the Infirmary, but I had to stop for a moment while the pain passed."

Madilla gives Caitlyn a tenative, worried smile, nodding slowly. "I'll see what I can do," she promises. "It won't take long. I can understand not wanting to put them out... but you do need to look after yourself. You'll put them all out much more if you don't; these things can be dangerous." Admonishment complete, the apprentice concludes: "I'll be back soon, promise. Just... don't collapse on me." With then, she turns to head off towards the infirmary at a half-run, casting glances back every few paces.

Caitlyn looks properly penitent, definitely chagrined - grinning wryly at Madilla and her looking back - shooing her off gently with fingers. "I'm not about to pass out or die..." she calls out reassuringly, then leaning against the wall beside her, slightly hunched over as another burst of tummy pain hits her.

Madilla clearly remains unconvinced, because she glances back all the way into the infirmary and out of sight. True to her word, moreover, she's not gone very long: either the mixture is not very difficult, or there some some on hand already. Either way, the apprentice barrells back down the hallway a handspan and a half minutes later, bearing the medicine in both hands, her books and supplies evidently discarded. "I have it!" she reports, breathing heavily despite the fact that the infirmary is not far away. "Are you still all right?"

Caitlyn looks up at those approaching, hurrying feet - grinning broadly at Madilla. "Relax, Madilla. I'm mostly ok. Don't know of anyone who's died from sour sores on the tummy." She accepts that big bundle of herbs with a sigh, then cautiously pushes up off her bit of wall. "I'll make a big cup of it when I get back to camp. Which'd better be soon, since I have a rider waiting on me." Giggle-ouch. Slipping her burden under one arm, her free hand rummages around in a pocket, fishes out something, then palms it into the younger woman's hand - trying to gently close Madilla's fist around it. "My personal thanks for helping me out in a pinch. No looking till I'm gone." Smile. "VERY nice meeting you, Madilla. Thank you from the bottom of my..." Wince. "Stomach."

Madilla does not relax, not even as she hands over the bundle of herbs, nor as her fist is closed around whatever it is - she's still too distracted to argue, all eyes on Caitlyn. "I--" Deep breath. The girl nods. "You're welcome. Um. If it doesn't improve, though, you should really come back for another examination. Let us keep an eye on it. And... don't work too hard, or you'll make it worse. I know you probably already know this, but..." She breaks off, managing another nervous smile.

"I shall, hon," 'Lyn' murmurs. "This pain is hard to ignore, believe me." Noting the nervous smile, the empathetic woman reaches out and gives a quick squeeze to that curled up fist. "You have my word I'll not mention anything to anyone - since I know you likely don't want to speak of it to others, either." Fingers mock-button her lips together, eyes laughing softly. "Keep up your studies. Hopefully we'll both make Journeyman sooner rather than later. And *you* take care, too!" A quick finger wiggling wave, and 'Lyn' is pivoting around on a bootheel, trying to hurry out of the hallway, out towards the courtyard. And her little gift within Madilla's hand? Wire strands of copper - woven tightly together in fine braids to form a simple ring - their ends twirled up into a complex little knot that adorns the top.

Madilla manages a real smile as Caitlyn takes her leave, though her eyes follow the woman all the way out, and it is some time before she actually moves, glancing down at her fist, which she opens. With bright eyes, she slides it onto her finger, clearly both delighted and a little embarrassed, admiring it with her hand outstretched in front of her. Finally, glancing around, she heads back towards the infirmary, obviously intent upon collecting her books.
