Vash
Contents
Description
Everything about Vash is varying shades of brown, with almond-shaped eyes and shoulder-length hair that falls in loose waves, both the color of deep mahogany, and smooth skin a shade of lightly creamed klah. Her face is rounded, and her lips full and just a little pouty. Her nose, while not overly large, still manages to be somewhat prominent, its arch standing out to merge with delicate brows of charred oak. She is still young, but not as young as she looks; she will likely not begin to show her age for some time. Her frame of middling height rounds to about 5'8", but there is very little meat on those bones aside from some steady toning around the arms and shoulders.
WYSK
Vash is not reclusive, but she tends to be socially awkward, and she knows it. This used to make her play the part of the wallflower, but as she's aged, that tendency seems to be falling to the wayside. Vash often says things that are barely connected to the conversation at hand, and at times she ends up downright insulting, though she's usually oblivious to that fact.
Vash continues to drift toward the company of runners and herdbeasts more often than her own human beings, though she no longer goes out of her way to avoid people. Where words continue to fail her, actions do not. She has a certain degree of intuition that works well with runners, and likely other animals, too. Possibly even animals of the Pernese variety. This will likely be tested during her first stint as a junior assistant weyrlingmaster.
She has a very strange way of thinking, and while she's aware of it, that awareness has not made it any better. She seems to be more comfortable with it since impressing to Ihvaiyth, however, and stands her ground even when she realizes she's said something "off". It is in part due to that strange way of thinking and to her own weyrlinghood experiences that she was asked to assist in the coming weyrlinghood, an experiment that should play itself out soon.
History
Vash (formerly Vashelle) grew up at a cothold northwest of Fort Weyr, almost midway between Fort and High Reaches. Her family (along with most of the others in the cothold) helped raise some of the sturdy little runner stock favored by the mountain-going traders and the like. Her parents are both originally from the Telgar area (father from the Hold, mother from the Weyr), and Vash was actually born at the Hold, but they moved to the cothold when she was very young.
While Vash's father thought she might have the aptitude for the Smiths, her mother was intent on matchmaking Vash with the son of a friend from Telgar. In an effort to avoid both pressures, Vash went her own way instead and traveled with a group of Traders that had been passing through.
Around the age of sixteen, Vash put up camp with the Traders outside Fort Weyr. Tired of traveling, she decided to seek work at the Weyr and began tending the Weyr's stables and fields. She was later asked to stand, then later impressed to green Ihvaiyth.
During her weyrlinghood, both Vash and Ihvaiyth were injured during the barracks collapse. Vash's leg was broken and took well over half a turn to fully heal, and while Ihvaiyth's injuries were less severe, their development during weyrlinghood was highly stunted. Vash did her best to catch and then keep up, but it was a struggle.
That said, neither dragon nor rider seemed to exhibit any of the psychological effects that might be expected from such an event, especially considering the loss of one of their own during the collapse. Perhaps the same weirdness in Vash's psyche that makes other parts of life difficult made this particular one easier.
