Tillek has not been terribly well pleased with High Reaches Weyr for some time: the Weyr's failure to recover Edeline's missing heir certainly hasn't earned them any friends. Matters are made rather worse, however, when Edeline's cousin, Ennegan, Impresses a blue from the galleries during the hatching of Hraedhyth and Szadath and Iesaryth and Arekoth's clutches.

Some time after, Edeline's step-daughter, Carilee, marries Tomaeran of High Reaches Hold. The Weyr is - rather pointedly - not invited.

N'gan himself complicates matters by getting fellow weyrling Quielle pregnant well before the weyrlings have permission to resume sexual relations-- but the Weyr isn't helping matters, either, by hosting mock-threadfall over Tillek with little warning. There is one person who impresses Edeline during that, and that is Wingleader Z'ian; she makes a statement some time later by addressing the tithes to him rather than the Weyrwomen. Her message? Better communication. In answer, Aishani has her riders report to Edeline on every possible matter, from the status of Quielle's pregnancy to every part of sweeps.
