| The docks of Tillek are a busy place to be, people coming and going especially in the beginning of spring where winter-bound ships are able to set sail again. Yet, in this bustle of people and animals and boats, one young man sits on a crate near a Neratian ship, his head bent over a gitar as he produces a soft, sad song from the cords that seems so out of place in the bright, mild morning. The man is dressed like a sailor, head shaved to a soft dark fuzz though his jawline is left clean. She's avoided this place for over a Turn, Tillek's personal significance to the dragonrider too keen to bear up under...until recently. Still, it's only duty that urges Alida and Ilicaeth to the harbor, even now, the craggy, burly blue only a shadow in the sky until he's near the ground, backwinging to a landing upon firm earth beyond the docks. Give the figure upon his back a few minutes to gather herself and her small satchel of a burden - then skate down her lifemate's extended foreleg to the earth - and she'll quickly square her shoulders and move towards the docks at a smart, almost militaristic walk. Another minute or so will see the palest-blonde narrowing clear green eyes as she slows, trying to make out the name of each ship berthed. At this point, she isn't taking close notice of particular people. The Neratian ship is named Blue Shoals, written in fading ink along the hull. The young man in front of it continues playing, but even his gaze comes up at the presence of a dragonrider amongst the crowd, fingers not even missing a cord as he takes Alida in. She's got all the hallmarks of a dragonrider, for sure: the flight gear, a certain self-confidence to her step, and - as she passes folks - the subtle, spicy scent of clean dragonhide wafting in her wake. Those, and the patch of High Reaches Weyr and Glacier Wing on either arm of her riding jacket. Ahh...yeah, that's the one! Once her vert gaze makes out the faded ink of the 'Shoals upon the bow, Alida veers crisply towards the ship, finally paying heed to the sound of that guitar, the sight of the player before it. Casting her incisive gaze up and down - boat to 'mate - the bluerider finally engages the unknown young man in minimalistic, though polite enough fashion with a crisp, mile-a-minute, hard-accented alto, "This yer' ship?" "Mostly, I belong to it," the young man answers musingly, his fingers finally stilling on the strings as he meets that incisive gaze with his own, soft and seemingly sad. "May I help you, dragonrider?" Perhaps oddly, Alida seems to understand what the young man means, her nod to him easy, and a strange hint of guarded compassion in the bluerider's demeanor. A faint clearing of her throat presages a lower, "I'm lookin' for the third mate uv' the Blue Shoals. His aunt sends him a gift fer his upcoming Turn day." The way her hand at the satchel upon one shoulder lightly squeezes the strap might make clear where said gift lies. It is unclear when the other young man jumped down from the masts to the railing there, a perfect mirror image of the one in front of Alida except that this one is there, not here. He whistles sharply at the dragonrider to get her attention, calling out an instruction of, "Toss it here. Wichek's probably not going to be back until late; marks were paid out today." He pairs that with a broad grin, his gaze sliding to the little stretch of seedy bars in a row beside the docks. It is his brother, setting aside his gitar, who clears his throat softly, offering to Alida, "We will ensure that he gets it." Blinkie. Up to the ship and the voiced presence there, then back down to the young man before her go Alida's eyes, then re-tracing their route once again. Ayup; twins, it seems. To the whistler is noted with still polite firmness, "I was told ta make sure it went only ta' him. Y'll understand if I can't just hand it over." The blonde woman chews at her upper lip for a moment as she watches the grinny-twin descend to her level - something equally as sad as the more quiet twin's voice clear in her gaze for a quick second - that emotion instantly washed away in a serious, controlled, "Does 'e have a flit...'r a lockable press?" This is inquired of both young men, the once-guitar-playing figure nearer-by a more 'relaxing' place for her greens to rest. Golden sands shift, whorl, glance along his rider's shoulders in a faint scour of emotional support for her left-over pain, and then transform to granite beneath her boots: glinting with flecks of bright minerals encased within. Rumble. He's paying attention. (Ilicaeth to Alida) She'll be okay. Nothing brings back the memories like the scents, sounds of the docks, the sea. (Alida to Ilicaeth) Sarkev never quite makes it to her level, that railing still pretty high above the line of the water that he balances as if born to do so, even with the slight rocking of the boat in the harbor. "Come aboard, dragonrider. If you want to trust that we'll show you the right press," he tosses back with a shrug, watching and waiting for Alida's next move. Kalevin stands, tucking away the guitar onto the now empty crate in a show of trust for this bustling dock that might be unwise. "Flits aren't generally encouraged except for the captain. Not after the last time he found one eating the cargo," he provides in explanation and answer, his gaze meeting his brother's for a long moment before he looks back to Alida. "If you want to wait for him to return, we can send a runner to get you when he's back. Or we will show you to the right press." Those clear, incisive greens of hers shift again between Sarkev and Kalevin as the bluerider listens to both, the latter twin getting Alida's faint, dark chortle and knowing head bob, her reply encompassing both sailors with shifts of her focus. "Be obliged if y' c'n show me to his press?" There's only so far she can go in the pursuit of her duty, really...even if the bluerider isn't one to trust easily. Preparing herself for some climbing, the blonde resettles the satchel over that same shoulder, but beneath the opposite arm, securing it and its contents as she looks to Kalevin to perhaps escort her up to Sarkev. The faintest etch of a frown appears in Sarkev's expression, but he paces along the rail to where it opens onto the ramp that has been let down to allow the ship to be unloaded and loaded as it is docked. This is where Kalevin leads Alida, naturally. It is steep, but given the dragonrider's natural inclination towards activity, it shouldn't be anything too hard to walk up. The young man bounds up it, shooting another look up at his brother until Sarkev hops down to the deck of the ship. It is Sarkev that offers a dry, "Welcome aboard," before he pivots to walk in the opposite direction that his twin leads Alida into the hold of the ship. "I am sorry for him; he is anxious," Kalevin explains for his brother. "We leave tomorrow morning with the tide to return home." Frown? Habit and training have Alida instantly slipping into quiet assessing mode, Sarkev scrutinized and weighed in those green eyes like a potential criminal - or simple civilian - might be. It's subtle, casual-seeming, and soon done with as the blonde moves up the steep incline without a problem, her head quirking at Kalevin's explanation, the woman then nodding once to the quieter twin before she murmurs, "Thanks..." to him, and then Sarkev, following the former. To him is inquired, "Is yer Captain readily available?" Sarkev disappears to check on the sails as an outlet for the energy that so obviously holds tension there, allowing Kalevin to lead Alida into the hold. Kalevin explains, "He's in his quarters." The hallway of the hold is long and narrow, the young man nodding to the last door there to indicate it for the dragonrider even as he steps towards a door inlaid in the middle of the hallway floor, pausing with his fingers on the handle there with a questioning look to the bluerider. "Even better..." Alida murmurs more quietly to Sarkev once they're inside where sound reflects, carries better, the woman shaking her head to the twin's questioning look, then murmuring, "To the Captain, if y'please. I'll leave it in his care." It'd make her feel a little better. As the rider follows the sailor, she can't help but observe him in her silent fashion, trying to pick out any subtle differences - aside from obvious personality ones - between the twins. Without Sarkev here to compare him to, it is almost impossible to find any difference in the twins. Kalevin leads the way down that hallway, abandoning what would have obviously led to the sailors' barracks below. He knocks firmly on the Captain's door, opening it at the man's voice before preparing him with, "There is a dragonrider here with a package for Wichek. She asked to leave it with you." He then holds the door open for Alida like a gentleman, and he will close it behind her like a gentleman as well. Hopefully Kalevin will wait outside the door to show her back out, or a landlubber like herself might get lost. One never knows. Inside the Captain's room, Alida makes some passably pleasant mouthings of the conversation she typically doesn't deign to hold with people, and finally leaves the satchel in his trust. It takes not more than 3 to four minutes, tops, and when the bluerider re-emerges, it's with the faintest look of relief in a duty properly discharged *plus* a near-end to the need to be on her best behavior. He has waited nearby, though it doesn't seem as if Kalevin is patient in waiting, because he has taken out a scrap of hide. It disappears quickly as the door opens, hardly enough to get a glance of its presence before the young man straightens and offers a polite smile to the dragonrider. "I see that the Captain has taken your burden from your shoulders," he observes, before moving to lead her back to the deck. It's only once they are back above ground, so to speak, with the fresh air and the bright skies, that he stops leading her, only turning to her to add, "It was a pleasure to meet you, dragonrider." Though he knows not just how rare such a thing is for one like her, Alida explains to Kalevin's statement, "Safest route, if I can't put it in the owner's hands." Head bob. Following the sailor again back onto the deck, the bluie inhales in controlled fashion as something swells a little in her chest, the urge to close her eyes and imagine someone else in specific instead of Kalevin striding before her wrestled down and under control once more...until something else gains her instant attention. For some moments, the woman gets a hint of that look in her eyes that often can suggest that a rider is 'talking' with their lifemate - her green gaze curiously bifurcated in focus, inward and outward at once - brought fully back to the situation at hand only by the sailor's farewell. Her eyes locked inextricably upon his own, the bluerider notes in firm, though quiet tones, "Was good meetin' you, yer brother, too..." Beat. "Unless you wanna come with us." Pause. "Ilicaeth says 'twins likely got the same stuff,' so I'd better ask ya both." The blonde's current expression is settled firmly between speculative and slightly sad before she murmurs, "You two're not from Igen, are ya?" Huh? Rumble, scour, head-cock. « He's likely. Bring 'im with. » Ilicaeth's nothing if not direct. Pause. « Bring 'em both. Twins an' all. Other one might have it, too. Probably tough separatin' 'em, anyway. » Snort. (Ilicaeth to Alida) Really? They didn't set out with any intent of a Search, but, if he really feels one or both might be worth it... « Okay. » Alida trusts *his* gut, *him*. (Alida to Ilicaeth) Kalevin's expression reflects understanding, the connection quickly made between Alida's suggestion and question that doesn't require the sailor to ask more from her in explanation as others might, with only the faintest flick of a look to her High Reachian knot. "No, we're not," he answers first, the question easier than the suggestion. Instinctively he looks upwards, where Sarkev's form has gained height again to check the securings of the sails. "Do you mind giving me a moment? I need to ask Sarkev." A pause, before he explains as if expecting her to understand, "Because we go together or not at all. Inexplicably, Alida looks a little relieved at the twins not being from Igen - though, really, are sailors really from anyplace but the sea? - the woman looking up in tandem with the young man towards his sail-scurrying twin, then back towards where the Captain's room lies. "We figured. No hurry." Because, even though it hurts her to be in this environment, it also feels oddly refreshing, in a way. A hint of a smile appears at that use of plural, there, as Kalevin nods, before he turns away to join his brother. Not on the mast, but rather making him come down to his level to talk in hushed tones that only carry between them. At one point, Sarkev looks over to Alida, surveying her from afar, before he finally seems to agree. Neither of them thinks to tell her before they go to get their things, though it doesn't take long to gather what is on the ship with them except for the lone exception of that gitar left on the docks. It's Sarkev that rejoins her first, cheerily telling her, "Looks like we'll be joining you," even as he moves past her. He'll even head to her dragon before she does, unless she goes ahead of him. Kalevin comes after, only stopping to gather his instrument and secure it on his back. That small smile calls up a rarer little grin from the bluerider as she recognizes its significance. She indeed has found her own heart's twin, as Kalevin has his form's. Alida glances between the forms now in the sails and whatever takes her attention all around her, until the twins descend and start moving about. "Gotta' get yer Captain's permission, uv' course..." she soberly informs the two before they're ready to go. Hopefully the man will be understanding, and if he isn't, the bluie's got some special schmooze words supplied to her by her lifemate quickly dipping into a different dragon's more artful and politic mind. Sarkev glances towards Kalevin at that, only to be reassured with the slightest of nods on part of his twin. The Captain's words never quite give his permission; instead he states clearly to Alida that they are free to make their own decisions, whatever that might mean. Fair enough; they're old enough to be responsible for themselves, and - from the looks of the twins - they want to go with her, so Alida's giving a proper little bow from the waist to the Captain giving up two of his sailors to Ilicaeth's choice, the woman then escorting them off the ship and down to the docks-proper. To her pair of followers along the way as they head towards the hazy form of her blue a little farther inland, the blonde notes concisely, "You'll be a month 'r so at the Weyr. If ya don't Impress, you c'n do wha'cha' want afterwards, includin' askin' for a return ta Tillek." It's up to them. Likewise, the rider also gives Kalevin and Sarkev the skinny on what the rules of Candidacy are, and the expectations and chores they'll be subjected to. As they close with the heavily-muscled, rather rocky-looking Ilicaeth, the blue's tail begins moving from twitches into short, sharp little lashes near its end third. Rumble. He's quite pleased, and the moderate wheeling of his blue gaze speaks so. |
