Dark hair, blue eyes, fair. Pretty, in a little girl kind of way.
Description
Lilabet still has the face and figure of a little girl for all that there's surprising maturity in her blue-eyed gaze. She's a pretty child who will one day be an attractive adult, with long dark lashes and fine brows, as dark as the long, loose waves of her hair, which falls to mid-back. Fair skin and dainty features give her the impression of fragility, despite the sturdiness of her build.
WYSK
- Born at High Reaches Weyr, Lilabet is the daughter of Healer Madilla and Greenrider B'tal (now deceased).
- At the beginning Turn 35, she began her Apprenticeship with the Harpers, just short of twelve turns old.
History
Lilabet - called Lily for much of her childhood, though she now insists upon her full name - is the daughter of Healer Madilla and Greenrider B'tal. She was a planned child, conceived between two friends who were otherwise not in a position to have children. She spent her days with Delinda, a relation of her mother's mentor, Delifa, and with Delvana, Delifa's daughter who was only a few turns older than Lily. Her father died when she was three; she has no strong memories of him, though his extended High Reaches Weyr family made sure she knew of him.
Her half-brother, Dilan, was born a turn later, completing - as far as Lilabet was concerned - their family. She initially resented her brother, but rapidly came to dote upon him: she loved being an older sister. That Dilan had no father at all (their mother had never named him) was satisfying, in a way; clearly, neither of them needed a father. They had Madilla, and wasn't that enough? Despite their age difference, she and Dilan became close.
Delvana and her family moved to Southern Weyr when Lilabet was seven; it was a harsh blow, made worse by the fact that Lilabet was old enough to grasp, to some degree, that her friend was going to lose her mother - the same way she herself had lost her father, but worse. She missed Delvana desperately; without the older girl around, she felt isolated, now forced to look elsewhere for companionship. Less than a turn later, Delvana's mother died, and Lilabet had another change to deal with: her mother's new relationship with H'kon.
It wasn't that she resented her mother having someone, though this was the first time she could remember it happening (she no longer remembered Varens, briefly a presence when she was still a toddler). It was just... it was change. It was different. Still, she and H'kon developed an understanding, over time; she even found she liked the brownrider, despite the changes he'd brought. Besides, he wasn't the only one bringing changes: a turn later, her mother admitted that Dilan's father was Devaki, an exile who had been Madilla's friend (and playmate of Lilabet, in a sense) for a time... and Devaki was now Lord of High Reaches Hold. Despite herself, Lilabet was jealous: Dee's father was alive, and he was important, and she... felt left out.
Two turns later, when Lilabet was ten, Madilla and H'kon adopted Raija, a toddler distantly related to Leova, one of Madilla's close friends. This, too, bothered Lilabet: she hated change she wasn't in control of, and this was a big change. Raija was traumatised; she needed attention. She ruined things. Now, more than ever, Lilabet began to focus on her own future. She'd long known that she wanted to be a Harper one day, and perhaps Impress a green dragon at some point, but now she began to work towards that in earnest. Mature for her turns, and a gifted storyteller, she quickly gained the mentorship of Journeyman Kharven, and began to agitate for the opportunity to Apprentice as soon as possible.
She would have gone at ten, but Madilla insisted that this was far too young: she should wait until she was twelve. Twelve was a lifetime away - a lifetime. In the end, it was Dilan's decision to move to High Reaches Hold to spend time with his father that allowed Lilabet her opportunity: Dee would go to the Hold, and Lilabet, not quite twelve, would finally go to the Hall. A Harper at last!
Relationships
- B'tal: I didn't really know you, except through other people. I don't know what kind of father you would have been, good or bad. But you're mine. I hope you'd be proud of me.
- Delvana: It's fun that you're right next door. I guess I can feel the difference in our ages a lot, at the moment, but we're still friends. It'll be easier when we're both grown up.
- Devaki: It's not the same, now that you're back in our lives. You're not the same. But you include me; I appreciate that.
- Dilan: I miss you. I'm glad it's easier for you, though, being at home. I guess you were younger; everything is more normal.
- H'kon: You're not my father, but you've also never tried to be. You're my... my H'kon. I'm glad we understand each other. I'm glad I have you. I'm glad mom does, too.
- Kharven: I hope I'm doing you proud, here at the Hall.
- Leova: You've always been there. Like one of my aunts, I guess. That's cool.
- Madilla: Mama. The older I get, the more I value you.
- Raija: Dee's only my half-brother, but that's never mattered. I guess that means you're my sister, even if we're not related at all. Don't miss me too much.
- Telavi: You actually talk to me like I'm grown up. And the clothes! Your visits are the best.
- Teris: I would've done it. It doesn't matter, though, because I know you're okay, now. You're safe. You and Iskiveth and B'tal and Jeibeth, together again.
