Niahvth knew immediately the second Hraedhyth did not emerge from between in time. Irianke knew when Niahvth knew cause a sudden soul-splitting keen chilled her spine and she felt paralyzed beneath E'darin's beefy body. It took a few moments longer for the brownrider to still, the confusion clearing from his face and replaced with something else. Something horrified. The two just stared at each other for what seemed like the longest time, but in actuality was less than a minute.

Irianke animated, pushing him off her and throwing on a tunic and pants with speed. Shit. E'darin could see himself out, she didn't have time for the niceties of interrupted coitus.

Her first priority, find K'del.

Her second priority, put the Weyr on lock down.

She stopped short in her tracks and ran a hand through her hair. No, her first priority was something else, a something else she had not expected to do at this juncture.

« Breileth, » Niahvth's voice, not heard often at Igen, interrupted the Igen senior queen's mind. « Hraedhyth is gone. »

Bless her, Irianke thought when even the one-sided conversation tightened to a narrow channel for the Igen senior only. The goldrider resumed walking hurriedly. She didn't have time to hear Nimae's commands sent through her dragon. She'd pay for it later when...

When what? A certain clarity entered Irianke's thoughts, a sharp breath drawing her up tall. When she returned to Igen? That wouldn't be for a while now, until the gold on the sands was old enough and rose. She had no doubts about it and winced at the thought of yet another untried, untested Weyrwoman for High Reaches Weyr. Maybe her transfer would be permanent, to train and assist the young Weyrwoman.

A sudden pang hit her heart, turning her skin cold with it. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Becoming Weyrwoman was always a timing thing, and if you were lucky, a goldrider would retire and time it just before your flight. Did she want to be Weyrwoman? Irianke shut her eyes briefly, clenched her fists, and continued walking.

"Giorda," she heard her voice state the name clearly in a remote way, like she was having an out of body experience. "Will you gather up your staff and explain to them what has happened," only thinking to clarify for the dragonless woman a moment later with a curt, "Hraedhyth is no more. Please roll out barrels of our cheapest wine and have them tapped in the living cavern. Have the kitchens put out whatever is available to eat." As for the fire, a short exchange made sure the Headwoman's staff was aware (they were), and looked to. The rest she'd leave to K'del... Right.

» Niahvth, I need you to find Cadejoth and have his rider meet me in the council chambers. «

« He is already asking for you there. »

Irianke turned out of the lower caverns and through the bowl of mourners, both human and dragon alike. She ignored the looks, some downright antagonisic and others hopeful, and walked up the steps to where the council chambers were.

Her approach began with, "K'del..."
