The lock down was temporary and even so, Irianke wasn't sure if Breileth would recognize Niahvth as the senior queen at High Reaches. It wasn't something she wanted to publicly test, however, and the day after the fire, when the initial investigation had revealed Azaylia was not murdered, Niahvth lifted the invisible veil.

"A turn of events," said the Igen Weyrwoman, as she strode into Irianke's weyr, several days afterwards.

Her palms were sweaty, and she rubbed them against the side of her pants. Niahvth, don't let me fuck this up. A wave of reassurance cascaded into her mind and helped straighten her body. A small nod dismissed Lycinea.

"Aye," she heard herself respond after her assistant had left, no smile gracing her face though her words, for her mentor, were warm. "We have a few things to discuss, Nimae."

A small ripple of pleasure ran down her spine when she saw Igen's Weyrwoman react to her name being spoken rather than a title or ma'am. "That we do," was the curt acknowlegement.

"It is no longer in High Reaches Weyr's best interests to allow the trade of our clutch." The shift in pronouns was distinct to Nimae, though nothing new for Irianke at High Reaches. She had been told, ordered in fact, to integrate herself fully into the Weyr. To report back after she had returned as to the state she had left High Reaches in. To become as fully High Reaches as she could. No amount of argument had swayed Nimae's directive and, like the obedient squire, she had finally agreed.

But she was no longer Nimae's to order. Stone blue eyes watched Nimae not even flinch or react otherwise to the decision Irianke had announced.

"You mean to stay then," was all the Igen woman concluded.

It was, Irianke mused, the best possible response that could have happened. However, her guard wasn't about to be let down at this. "As long as High Reaches has need of my services, as was my directive when I was asked," required, "To transfer."

Nimae slanted the sharpest look at her. "You would do well not to burn the bridges that brought you here in the first place." She winced at Irianke's flinch and shook her head, "A figure of speech."

It was rare to ever see or hear Nimae slip her speech in such a fashion. Irianke noticed her former Weyrwoman's hands were clasped behind her back and considered the ramifications of that reaction.

Irianke let it slide. "You taught me better than that," she said instead, chiding Nimae with a brief, crooked smile. "Calling this burning bridges is hardly Nimae-worthy. I need to look out for the best interests of my Weyr. If you'd like to renegotiate, these would be my terms."

She slid the sheet of paper in her simplest script forward, across the table that separated her from Nimae.

It delineated terms, some of which were:

Leadership oriented chromatics would be traded temporarily to Igen Weyr, all riders with at least five turns of experience to assist with the transition towards Igen's new fighting wings structure. No weyrlings.

Every five turns, starting in turn 40, there would be a full wing exchange for half a turn that would help trade and share ideas until the next Pass.

Nimae skimmed the document quickly, turning the page and reading the next. Her mouth set firm. "I will bring your thoughts to my council and return a response by the end of next mon-,"

"Sooner," interrupted Irianke firmly. "The eggs will hatch soon." Interrupting Nimae was a giddy and terrifying experience.

The Igen Weyrwoman took in a sharp breath but did not promise sooner and left with a curt nod.

Lya found Irianke throwing up in her bathroom later, but the goldrider shared nothing of what transpired other than the reassurance it was just nerves.
