| H'vier couldn't tell whether it pissed him off more that she'd kneed him in the balls, that she'd caught him with another woman or that he actually cared that he might never have another chance with her again. It was definitely the balls one while he was still curled up around himself on the floor of his weyr. In the days that followed, it turned miserably into the caring one, which sent him to his whiskey, trying and failing not to care about anything at all. "Fucking women." He resisted the urge to throw his last glass into the flames of the hearth. He'd already done that with one of them and cracked another from holding it too tightly, cutting himself in the process. « That does seem to be a source of many of your problems. » The bronze's distant amusement betrayed any possibility that he might be trying to be helpful. The mental 'fuck you' his rider was sending his way only made him more so. « Don't blame me for your shortcomings, H'vier. I try to make you better but you're inexplicably uncooperative. Forget the woman. I've found someone that will be of better use to us. » Reisoth shared a brief image of one of Iceberg's few greenriders. As soon as H'vier started thinking about her breasts, however, the bronze interrupted with, « I would suggest you refrain from intercourse if you wish to maintain a beneficial relationship. » The emphasis on 'beneficial' was meaningful. « She has interest in our efforts and is willing to feel out others. » "You found a woman on purpose." It wasn't a question, more an accusation. H'vier wasn't as stupid as Reisoth liked to claim he was. "If she fucks us over, I'll skin you myself." « Your lack of faith is insulting, » was the bronze's only response, but H'vier ignored him, slipping into his own thoughts. It was time to see how useful, or expendable, the boy from Nabol was going to be to him. |
