| Gordo had a dirty room that he used to rent from this older couple. He paid it with the earnings he made from cheating at poker, the scams he used to run and the occasional day or two of hard labor that he used to engage in when he absolutely had to. And from time to time, he would let Sabs sleep on the filthy little sofa that occupied the corner of the tightly packed space. She didn't always need it; she had different places that she used to go at night. She was fifteen and she'd been living this way for turns already. He was good to her, better than her own family had been. She was only twelve when she'd met him. It helped to have one of the older kids looking out for you, especially when you were a girl, all on your own. She'd never regretted making friends with him, even if he was a loud, foul-mouthed braggart. And ultimately, that had been his downfall. She'd told him. She'd told him to stay away from her. To be careful. Better yet that he needed to forget all about the beautiful wife of that minor Cromese Holder that kept quarters in the main Hold. It all went to hell just like she thought it would. It was a typical night, her sleeping under the ragged blanket he'd left for her. When the door was kicked in and the guards came to drag him from his bed. It all turned to chaos. Sabs had woken almost immediately, throwing herself at the first man that she saw. She beat her fists against his body, ineffectual despite all of her fury. Despite her subsequent tears. He rudely pushed her aside and she felt her back slam into the wall. She slid down and watched dully as they hauled him away. Rape. It was an ugly word. It was even uglier when it was used to cover up an adulterous wife's affairs. He said, she said. Her husband had money and he... well he didn't have much of anything. Other than a list of previous criminal activities a mile long and a bad attitude. Then he got to have one more thing, he got to be the proud owner of a ten turn sentence to the mines. She'd cried bitterly when the news reached her. Crom didn't hold much for her as it stood and now, she was a friend short and one piss-poor memory richer. From a connection of a connection she'd learned of a man at Greenfields, one that might be interested in someone like her. She didn't have anything else to lose, so she exchanged marks with a group of traders and embarked on the journey there. |

< Ahh Sabs... That's at least one way that the guard and Sabs are alike: rough childhoods.

Aw maaaan. :/ That is... so terrible. Looks like the last straw that broke the camel's back. Poor Gordo. But especially, poor Sabella.
Really enjoyed getting a peek at her past, though!
