Waterbound Flock Egg
This egg, so perfectly egg-shaped with its domed bottom and bluntly pointed top, is whiter than any egg should rightly be. No creams or ivories touch this shell, just the sharp, pristine white usually reserved for angels and virgins, cut through with just enough slivers of silver to feather out a few edges and make it seem downy. No angel, though, the egg has flaws interrupting that white purity; a group of small dashes, brilliant orange chased with black, scatter at random across the shell.
Waterbound Flock Egg has been sitting gently rocking back and forth for some time now, shivering, almost, without drawing too much attention to itself. That all changes when it suddenly tips forward and it's mere moments after the tip of its shell has hit the Sands and shattered that its aqua-splashed green occupant spills out, all wrapped-up. She doesn't roll far and soon finds her feet, checks she's all in order. Paws, tail, wings: right. And she's off, just like that.
Merry Mischief Maker Green Hatchling
All smooth curves and neatly compact frame, this bold young green moves with a fluid grace that makes each step seem deliberate and thought through. Large eyes rimmed with peridot lend her an air of innocence, her ridges like ripples, deceptively soft with their hints of sea foam. Beginning at the tip of her nose, a splash of rich aquamarine slips down across her jaw, twirls down her elegant neck and washes across both flanks, where it filters through moss and bright vale on its journey to the very end of her tail. Slim shoulders promise delicate wings, her wingsails brushed with the shimmer of sunlight shining through rushing water. Well turned-out, subtly sturdy limbs are wrapped in faint fern patterns that grow bolder and more distinct as they lead to granite claws, and lack sharp joints or angles save at the very tip.
Temperament
Something that you'll discover early on with Jheilinth is that she's the girl who'll try anything once and if she's the first in her class to do it, then all the better. She'll want to demonstrate in lessons and be the one at the start of the line to try out the new skill you're supposed to have learned today. Expect her to pester the older dragons as well, to learn something the Weyrlingmasters haven't taught yet but she's sure she can do it! She'll nudge and nudge and nudge for you to answer questions and raise your hand, despite often not knowing if either of you actually have the correct answer. Not so worried about being embarrassed, if you don't know or you make fools of yourselves, it's not the end of the world. It's an experience and one she believes you should have, even if you end up with laps around the bowl if she goes too far. She'll want you to integrate well with the rest of your class and if it's a choice between curling up to sleep or going to play with her siblings so that you'll interact with their riders, she'll go play. Be prepared to find her asleep in an assortment of places other than her couch, utterly exhausted.
She may be a delight a lot of the time and might have one of the best innocent 'it wasn't me' looks out there, but Jheilinth certainly has her dark side. If she doesn't like something, you'll know about it, and fast, whether it's from the heat that rushes from her mind or her move to take over the situation. The cheer fades away, the smoke fills the air and there's absolute focus on just what she's going to do next. However, it's not always with such intensity that this side of her asserts itself. If she wants to do something she shouldn't or attempt to play a prank on somebody (and she will), there'll be the quiet, calculated trailing of oil, the setting of the fire, the leaping away, all designed to make sure she's not discovered. She might well start encouraging you and her clutchsibs to do the same, starting small and working up to bigger things. You may even get the blame for her antics, though she'll protest that she meant to teach you something by incriminating you.
Even when she's little, she'll want to go on adventures, and she and Nilanth may be inseparable. There are times when she won't take no for an answer and if you don't follow after or join her, she'll go right on ahead and investigate on her own, providing you with a detailed running commentary, sometimes merely because she's excited, at others because she's determined to irritate you so that you'll give in. All done cheerfully and with no hint of intent to aggravate, of course. If that means that you get in trouble because you can't control her for lessons, well... You may be able to bring her to heel with direct orders, but she won't appreciate them. Sulking really isn't her sort of thing, but if you suddenly find yourself face to face with someone you're not talking to or someone you'll never admit you're interested in, chances are that she's arranged her own form of payback. She doesn't have Khazioth's bluntness, but a far twistier way of getting even.
In the air, she'll be the one ready to try something different and trust that she and you can handle it, with confidence enough for the both of you. If she succeeds in pulling off the manoeuvre of the moment, if it's gained her attention, then that's enough, there's next to no desire to gloat or preen. She might not be able to pull off stunts with the speed of the smallest of her sisters, but she'll turn her own twist on things and usually manage something just as dramatic. Perhaps that's why she'll prefer bronzes and browns to the smaller blues, for they provide a better contrast to truly let her shine. There's a steady certainty to how she flies to match how she moves on the ground; an effortless grace that often requires no acrobatics to draw eyes to her.
She'll be the one keeping up communication with her wingmates, though not all of it will be on the task at hand or even 'work appropriate'. When drills are over, still she may continue on with her chattering, every so often telling you some little detail about this person and that person and why so-and-so wasn't present today. If the wing plan to spend quality time together, even if it's just seeking out a dingy bar somewhere, she'll pull out all the stops to make sure you go: begging, pleading, choosing your outfit and /promising/ that she'll be with you the whole time. Wherever it is in the world that you do wind up, with or without company, more often than not she'll want to bring something back with her. Something pretty (almost always), something expensive (a great deal of the time), just something shiny (even better!) that's caught her eye that she can have you put on display somewhere. If it decorates you and not her, well, that's just as good.
When it comes to flights, she won't have any problem with leading along as many males as she likes in the day or so before she rises, whispering promises one minute and stalking haughtily away the next. She might not understand what sort of trouble this could cause or the atmosphere she creates and may encourage you to behave in the same manner toward their riders. When she takes to the skies, she's only after the one who can survive her little games, for she'll dare and tease and attempt to tie her pursuers up in knots with her intricate flight path, uncaring should she lead them to injury. She'll be devoted to the male that catches her for as long as she can remember the flight itself, but constancy is not Jheilinth's way. Soon enough she'll be searching for another dance partner and her quest will not always be for herself. She'll have suggestions about who she thinks would be a good match for you, and wouldn't someone new be more interesting than the same-old, same-old?
Ultimately, Jheilinth wants what's best for you, though your definitions of just what that is might not always match. There may be times when you have trouble keeping up with her when she's determined to plough on ahead regardless, but those ideas of hers that just don't look like they're going to end well? You might well find that there's more than enough fun to be had along the way to make up for potential disaster. She'll need a firm hand, yet, you never know, there might be more to be learned by giving her the reins every now and then.
Public Impression Message
Merry Mischief Maker Green Hatchling loops around one of her straggling brothers, winds past a few stray fragments of shell and tries to squeeze between two candidates standing arm in arm. She wiggles a little and they hastily step aside, leaving her free to present herself at the feet of a raven-haired girl with amber eyes, her tail snaking out to wrap gently around one ankle.
Private Impression Message
You're suddenly short of breath, as if you've been pacing steadily up a steep slope for some time now, heat and light assaulting your senses in sharp bursts. Just as the clamour reaches its peak, the weight is lifted and a cool breeze rushes past you, bringing with it a quick beat that you know cannot be your pulse. The notes filter in next, light and airy and /they/ bring the pad of bare feet on grass, the swirl of skirts and the vivid colours, all twirled and twined together. « Dashaya! Oh, /there/ you are. » Chiding, almost: are you late for the party? « You're here! You're really here! » Jheilinth takes a moment to make herself comfortable, twist herself around you completely. Jheilinth. You know without asking. « There are so many things that you /have/ to show me. And see. But first, could you show me where the food is, please? »
Mindvoice
At her most intense and excitable, Jheilinth can sound like an Irish festival in full swing, her pure, sweet voice weaving above the thrum of the beat and the unintelligible chatter of the community she loves so much. When she's tired, the noise winds down, only the faint step of feet through grass and the smoke of the last of the dying fires to taint the air. You may find that she speaks in quick bursts, slowing down for some phrases and rushing ahead with others, as if following a score that only she knows. When she's hurt or angry, there are dropped notes and the screech of ill-struck chords on the violin, a choking dark smoke and flames ready to rush forth and engulf anything in their path. She'll hide her devious side well in the sweeter notes and colours of the fayre, but, as they say, where there's smoke, there's fire.
Dragon Inspirations
Jheilinth is inspired by the May Day festival, with its Celtic origins in Beltane, which fits the loose 'Something Beginning With M' theme of the clutch. Her sweeter side is based on the more modern celebration of May Day, whilst her darker, more mischievous leanings are taken from the ancient celebration of Beltane. Her description is inspired by the Torc Waterfall in Ireland, a picture of which can be found here.
Egg Inspiration: This egg is based on an eyrar, which in addition to being a cool word, is the term for a group of swans.
