Where: Weyrlingmaster's Office, Fort Weyr
When: Day 25, Month 10, Turn 34 (Interval 10)
Since returning from Southern, Reesa hasn't been hanging out at her usual places. Not the Sanctuary, not the Glass Fountain (even before they closed), and only occasionally in the sunning spot. There's been a few late or sick days here and there, nothing overly unusual for /her/, and it's a few days after the announcement between lessons will begin for the older weyrlings that the greenrider asks via dragon to meet the Weyrlingmaster. She's waiting - pacing back and forward - smoothing down her loose fitting shirt with a growing impatience that, too, is not overly unusual. Ebeny's plainly in no rush, so perhaps Laurienth hasn't been so prompt in conveying that request, for she also doesn't appear to believe that she's kept Reesa waiting, even if she has. It's through the locked door that leads to her weyr that the Weyrlingmaster eventually appears, not out of breath and, instead, with everything seemingly in order, so she can't have raced her way to her office, wherever she was. "Reesa." She turns back to lock the door behind her, right as a bronze firelizard narrowly escapes being squashed as it's closed. "Laurienth said something about needing to see me." Ebeny's likely not late at all, but Reesa's impatience is not exactly a new trait of the younger greenrider's. The blonde releases a breath when Ebeny arrives, frowning briefly - at the firelizard, perhaps? - before she nods. "Yes. I- I won't be able to help with the between lessons." She looks more disgruntled than nervous about this pronouncement, however, arms folding across her chest. "For at least another three sevens, and you'll be all but done by then." The firelizard makes himself at home on Ebeny's desk, burrowing in between two stacks of hidework that he thankfully manages not to upset and send to the floor. Given a moment to digest that announcement of Reesa's, Ebeny gives a brief lift of brows, then heads towards the chair on her side of the desk, to sit without (literally) standing on ceremony. "You're pregnant, then?" she assumes, drawing a piece of blank hide before her. "You'll be with the younger class, or babysitting those older ones who can't fix their images yet, if Between isn't safe for you. I could just reassign you to the younger ones for the next three sevens, until they start their jumps." "Unfortunately," it's hard to tell whether that dry response of Reesa's is serious or not; certainly she doesn't even seem to know herself. There's a brief grimace at being assigned to the younger class, though the cause of it isn't obvious. "Hopefully the healers will clear me by then. If not - you could talk to them?" It's more wistful than expectant of a positive answer. With an exhale, she frowns, "Khiabeth's driving me crazy. She hates being /stuck/. How did you do it?" "Then I'll hold back on congratulations until you either smile or cry, and I can either be happy for you or commiserate," Ben replies in a tone that would be dry, if it weren't somewhat rueful at the same time. "But I'm afraid I'm not going to risk a baby you must want to keep just to get you assigned to more active teaching. If you... change your mind, then that's another matter, and not one for me." On that hide before her, she jots something down in the corner - likely a reminder. "Me?" Her suddenly open expression is enough to convey being startled at that enquiry. "Laurienth herself was never stuck. She still more or less did as she chose. She'd still go off on her own and scare the living daylights out of me when I was a month or so off." "They said the worst of it is over," and yet Reesa sounds somewhat doubtful and rather suspicious that the healers have been plying her with some fantasy. A moment of hesitation, then, "I mean, it's hard to look all /teachery/ and in charge when I have to run off and pee in the middle of a lesson," her frustration is evident, and she looks at Ebeny expectantly - like she might have some sort of solution for this indignity. Pursing her lips, the blonde is clearly puzzled by the response, as she says, "But Khiabeth can't go without me." "Set them to working on some paired tasks and run like Faranth's chasing you," Ben suggests (though she can't actually be suggesting that, can she?) through the beginnings of a smile. "They're not stupid, you know. They might be kids - some of them - but they understand when needs must. If you'd said earlier, I could've just taken you /off/ the morning classes..." Said gently, that last statement sounds like a question too. She considers her response before speaking on the latter subject, then broaches, "Can't or /won't/?" Then: "Laurienth was still throwing herself through storms with Corvinth," the brown's name still gives her painful pause, "when I was expecting my first." Reesa's laughing, at first, but then - with a pause - seems to take the suggestion seriously. "Good one. I like it." The nod of her head suggests she's tucking that away for later use. There's a brief hesitation, the younger greenrider grimacing. "We didn't want to be restricted too early. And the morning sickness was mostly gone by the time I realized what was going on. And," another beat of hesitation, "I figured they'd put me in the goldrider's wing. We /like/ Jasper." To the latter question, she shrugs, like /can't/ and /won't/ are much of a muchness. "Khiabeth's still snuggling up to some blue. But we're still /here/, and not /elsewhere/," as if that's an important distinction. "What good would you be in Citrine?" Not damning of Reesa, but lacking in the understanding behind that thinking. "You don't have time to teach and do much actively with a wing, so why reassign you? If you only had wing duties, they probably would, just to keep you from going Between, but..." Ben gives a quick shrug. "Khiabeth can still go where she chooses, if you trust her to go Between on your images by herself. Some dragons can't or won't do it. I had to impress upon Laurienth the importance of the baby when she was at her most agitated, but all that really did was make her more careful with /me/." Reesa looks distinctly surprised at Ebeny's support, and relieved, too. "That's what I was thinking. I'm- glad you agree." Relieved is probably closer to the truth. A slight frown becomes more pronounced, "Go.. without me?" The very idea of Khiabeth going somewhere without her is foreign and not well-liked, judging by the greenrider's visible discomfort. "I don't think- that's not something I'd... be comfortable with," she says, awkwardly. "And Khiabeth's interested but she doesn't understand the fuss, really. Nor why we can't just slip away somewhere warm for a change." She shifts her weight awkwardly, then, "Uh, I can't exactly assign you to pairs, but..." there's no doubt exactly where she's headed very soon. Ben pretends to look rather daunted and apprehensive at Reesa's warning, and hastily assures, "I've got a buddy," in the form of the hiding firelizard. "Just don't pee on my desk and we're good." With one hand, she makes a shooing motion towards the door that leads back to the barracks. "Go on. If you don't want the weyrlings to know why you're not going Between with them, I'll say Khiabeth's proddy or something." For the longest time a green has ever been proddy. Maybe she'll just think on her feet. "We'll sort something out, whatever the case." And with that, she gives another wave towards the door. No puddles, please. "Promise," Reesa says, laughingly, holding her hands up, starting to back towards the door. With a pause, "It'll come out sooner or later," she admits, "And I'll start to show soon anyway." She turns and strides towards the door, pausing briefly, "Thanks, Ebeny." For /what/ she doesn't specify - she's hurrying off towards the latrines.
