| It's finally starting to warm up again as spring is starting to take hold. Of course, it's still chill enough that Ali keeps the hearthside burning low. High above, Isyath circles and wheels about in Fort's sky as if welcoming the warmer weather. Ali's looking tired, but then that's probably to be expected with a newborn- the baby girl in question is fast asleep on her back in her cot not far from where her mother is seated. The dark-haired woman's knitting, an empty cup on the table nearby, and not a hide to be seen - seems she's taking Hattie's order that she not work quite seriously, for once. Adiulth has been in what is considered in draconic minds as 'good spirits', even if he still doesn't take to flying through the skies. He still talks. Still tries to be amusing to those who are otherwise grounded. E'ten, however is taking another duty to mind as he makes his way up the stairs to Isyath's ledge. Carrying a tray of tea in both hands, it may be the additional item that is perched atop his head with a careful balance to draw more comment. Hematite's Wingsecond walking with a toy firelizard atop his head? Quite likely true, given the destination and the knowledge that there would be a glad recipient of such. The toy? Gold, of course. Even if his dragon would have been partial to bronze as the man speaks up from the weyr's entrance just loud enough to be heard in the lieu of no sounds of crying from Iska. "Is it safe to enter?" There's a rustling from inside, and Ali appears near the entrance, "She's having her mid-afternoon nap, so-" and that's about when she notices the firelizard, stares silently for a moment, then bursts into laughter. She's /trying/ not to be too loud about it, either. "Is this a new fashion or something?" She takes a couple of barefoot steps closer to examine it- then notices the tray, "Here- come in, put the tray down." She beckons him in, still giving him a sidelong look, smiling all the while. "How many people saw you on the way over here?" "A few of the kitchen staff. The girl who helped me set her firmly atop my head for balance..." Still reviewing the list as he steps inside, the tray is easily set down onto the table while the bronzerider manages to keep his head 'just' so in order to keep the tiny gold plush in place. Until plucked, that is. "I'd say a few of the other riders, wingmates...Do you want me to keep going," E'ten remarks, recalling the expressions - most of them amused with a fair amount of ribbing. "I'm quite sure most of the wings had a good smile out of it, which I think is a good thing." Oh, Ali is definitely not messing with that toy and its current perch- she's enjoying it far too much. "Yes, keep going. I want to know just how long until someone drops by to warn me that you've gone mad and should be locked somewhere for your own safety." Once he's set the tray down, the junior's quick to take up hostess duties, reaching to pour to cups of tea. There's a gurgle of noise from the cot in response to the voices, the goldrider immediately glancing in that direction and starting to take a step, before looking at E'ten expectantly. /He/ has the firelizard, after all. Amidst dancing green eyes, E'ten knows the effect of the firelizard's presence sitting atop his head. Because of that, his smile turns into a grin as shrugs to the observations so far. "Maybe. Maybe not. Worse case is that N'muir gets word of it and wonders if I did it on purpose or truly have let the knot get to me," he quips, glancing towards the cot once it's apparent that its occupant is awake or becoming so. With the expectant look in his direction, he moves to lean towards the cot with a smile while the lizard tilts somewhat forward to follow a gentle, "Hello there." "/N'muir/," Ali responds, knowingly, "Would probably want a personal demonstration." While she sets the pot down, all her attention is on E'ten and Iska. The girl's still half asleep, gurgling and waving her arms around for anything she can grab. It might be the firelizard. But then it's just as likely to be E'ten's nose. "You're probably right," E'ten says to Ali, tilting his head even further so that the firelizard slides off of his head ... right into the waiting hands spread out just in front of Iska's likely flailing arms and tiny fists. "I brought a visitor. Not my nose," he says, pulling away just before one fist can get a good hold on the aforementioned appendage. "But, /she'll/ stay with you." Meaning the plush toy being offered while keeping his face further away from the chance of being taken. But the firelizard? There may or may not be fingers underneath the wings in an echo of flapping, given the movement as if its hovering.. to be taken. "I don't do such things often though, Ali." A noise like a little giggle is soon followed by a grab for that hovering firelizard. Iska is easily distracted at this age, gargling happily. "You're good with her," Ali says, which is probably an indication she might be concerned otherwise, given she only now just relaxes into seat, smiling at the pair. She's dealt with babies before but this is /hers/ and that instinct to protect is one she has to try and moderate. "Oh, but- you're going to have to recreate it when Iska's like, sixteen, so she can be morbidly embarrassed about her old uncle E'ten. Come and sit?" she invites, with a pat to the couch next to her. "Have you- thought about having children?" Plush and safe enough for baby inquisitiveness, E'ten releases the firelizard into Iska's wager hands with a relaxed smile as he moves to carefully pick her up. It's not the first time he'd had to deal with an infant thanks to his sisters, but this is quite different. Content that the firelizard has the attention, it doesn't keep his other hand supporting and ready for the oft chance that the plush could be discarded or accidentally dropped. With a turn to the waved at seat and a laugh, he sits with a rueful look towards the cot as the corner of one side of his mouth twitches. "I think that might be arranged. Granted, you'd fare better having Isyath staring down any rider who might want to get close to her. Not many who would want to argue with a gold dragon." Or her rider, but that goes without saying. Relaxed enough as he is, leaning back against the couch, it's the last question that draws the most silence from him. "Maybe. It's always a possibility from the flights, but I haven't really thought about it outside of it. Then again, I don't think that's likely to happen any time soon either." Ali purses her lips thoughtfully, looking amused as she watches the pair move closer. "Maybe we could recreate by having Issy standing on your head instead of the toy plush? I bet she'd love that." « I would, » Isyath's telling Adiulth, sincerely. « We should practice later. » The biting of her lower lip suggests she hears Issy's side, at least, and is trying not to show it. She wiggles fingers in Iska's direction, letting out a breath as she draws feet up under her on the couch, half twisting to better see the two. "Time... gets away from you, if you don't-" she catches herself, looking awkward. "Part of me wishes I'd started sooner. There was always reasons not to. But I want Iska to have lots brothers and sisters, like I did. But maybe not a Rey. Though I guess every family needs a Reyvar." A roll of eyes, smiling all the same. "I think you'd make a good father." E'ten may know there's some sort of dragon mischief afoot, taking hold of the firelizard to keep it moving at times and therefore Iska entertained well enough. "It's more than me being ready, but a matter of finding the right person. She'll have the more difficult part." No one said having children was easy. He's wise enough in that regard, but shrugs it off with both shoulders. "I'll be fine. It's not something drop on anyone unawares if they're not interested in the first place," he says, smiling down at his current charge before looking up to Ali with a smirk. "Not every family needs to have a Reyvar. Besides, I've been hearing things. He's settling in well, it sounds like?" On the dragon front: « He wouldn't like that. » Adiulth replies to Isyath, dubious of that particular recreation. « Maybe if he was much bigger, it would work. » "Well, yes. But- I mean, Adiulth's flown Laurienth, and she tends to stick with the same mates." Is Ali suggesting he knock Ebeny up? Likely not intentionally, judging by the way she continues, "So I imagine it will happen." If the dark-haired /knows/ about E'ten's relationship with another certain greenrider she's steering well clear of it, instead wiggling fingers at Iska, who is making grabby hands at the firelizard. "He's been... he's working at Dice. With his... experience, it seemed the best option to keep him out of trouble. I hope." But the furrow of brow perhaps suggests she might suspect otherwise, as much as it's apparent she loves her brother. Isyath is unphased by Adiulth's lack of enthusiasm: « Clearly, he needs to grow. He has many turns until Iska is big enough to fly. He should work on that. » "I hope it isn't a result of one of Laurienth's flights." Spoken without censuring the frown that moves to mar his forehead, E'ten wouldn't be surprised if Iska didn't respond. But then again, he does correct his expression with a lowering of the firelizard back into the waiting hands. At least for now. "I don't know how E'dre would take it and right now, if everything is smooth with him then there should be no rocking the boat. Or boats. Adiulth seems to have an impression that he 'knows' humans don't grow that way. « He can try but if he is still too short by then, there will need to be adjustments. » Oh yeah. Other attachments? He knows better than to say anything or is that mere politeness on his part? Ali chews her lower lip for a moment- then reaches for one of those cups of tea, perhaps to give herself a moment to consider a response to that. "Ben's a good mother. But you're right, E'dre is- you heard he caused another incident with Fort's Blood? As if we need more stirring of that particular nest." Her nose is definitely wrinkled, only eased marginally by her sip of tea and sidelong look at E'ten's movements with the toy, bringing forth a smile from the mother and the daughter alike. « He can grow big, » Isyath declares, because she knows everything about the world and how it works, clearly: « I believe in him, so he can do it. » Decided. Make it so. E'ten frowns again, this time it holds a little longer as his attention shifts away from Iska so that the wee girl doesn't think it's his fault. "I heard. It's one of the things that I've been keeping my ears turned to. I'm not sure what it's going to do with wing morale overall, that is. But," he continues speaking with a look down at the babe in his arms with a tweak of the firelizard plush of additional movement. "It hasn't made things worse here, as far as I can tell." So, things are relatively well. Adiulth for all of his wisdom or his riders, relents with his reply. « We shall see. » It's a tall order from the golden queen. Pun intended. "We'll only see the consequences next time we make an official visit there. Or," with a grimace, "Next tithe. If there is one." Ali seems doubtful on that score given Fort's offering /this/ year. "I doubt Lemos will bail them out again. But I'm hoping /we'll/ be more solvent by then," she leans forward to set her tea down. "Are you staying long? Should I have some food send over? I'd like to cook, but I tried the day before yesterday and was so tired I mixed the sugar with the flour- needless to say that batch of cookies ended up in the bin." Ruefully spoken, there's a fondness as she regards the pair. "What about some of the untouched lands in the South to supplement what we need? If, we go far enough to hunt, that is." It's a thought, much like the question of how long E'ten will be staying. With a glance down at Iska and then to Ali, one shoulder lifts carelessly in response. "I could stay. But, I understand that you need some time to rest. I can have someone bring dinner by and save you a trip or request?" "It's not just food that we need, though. We need things like cloth, furniture, leather, oil-" Ali cuts off before she can continue, though she gives the distinct impression that there's a bigger list than she mentions. "Some of our stock of things they- we- took to Boll, the renegades managed to take with them." But there's an unsubtle shudder there, and clearly no wish on the junior's part to linger on that particular conversation. "Only if you bring enough for yourself, too. I feel so out of the loop. You need to catch me up on everything. Okay?" Topics for another time. That much is clear. Shifting his arms so that Ali can take Iska into her arms - firelizard included, E'ten doesn't touch the previous topic in favor of the latter. Rest. That's the foremost thought in his mind as he chuckles, "Agreed. Any requests before I go and ask what they're serving for dinner?" Tea. Cookies. Something that ultimately she doesn't have to cook. "I want something with spices, but I think Iska will object." Ah, the sacrifices one makes as a mother. Ali's quick enough to take Iska back with a hand pressed to the back of her baby's head, the baby starting to fuss. The junior's spacey enough that she misunderstands E'ten's question about requests. "Some crisp vegetables would be nice. Maybe something meaty? I'll eat just about anything - you know that. I'm sure the kitchen staff will have their own opinion on what's best for me." Judging by the grimace, that's a battle that's already been fought and lost. "And... thanks, E'ten." For the firelizard? The visit? The food? All of the above, probably. |
