| « MINE! » They were away. The Telgari green would have twinned final gouges in her flesh from the sudden separation, Lythronath shoving her away, careening for the ground himself. Her rider fared better, though A'rist offered no explanation for leaving, managing only to dress part way. Lythronath found him half-clothed, trying and failing to close his jacket. It didn't matter. Airborne again, with drums pounding through their mind. They didn't hear the Telgari dragons now. The sky was theirs. Home. « Queen. » Even between, they could smell the smoke. Even between, Hraedhyth's drums ruled the beating of both their hearts. They burst out over High Reaches into a moment of eerie silence. Then Lythronath roared his challenge into nothing; into keening and wings and bodies and smoke and nothing. They were in nothing again before the roar could die from his throat. Cold and dark. No smoke. No air. No beat of hearts or dragons' cries. They floated in nothing. A place. A'rist seized on one, barely in time. A mountain near Crom, where they had been before. This time, they drove for its top. They landed in snow, cold, and wet as A'rist stumbled into it and his warm hands pressed. Lythronath did not roar again; he snapped trees and crushed snow and scraped stone, and spread the ichor on his talons over the mountain, keeping quiet, holding back. A'rist didn't. He let the dragon rage. He slowly lowered into a crouch, hands still in that snowpack. He coughed as if he'd breathed that smoke. And then he pushed. Hraedhyth. « Azaylia. » Lythronath's keen echoed out across the mountains, and A'rist brought his hands up and tucked them in against his chest. Alone. |

In their own strangely and individually fierce ways, both Alida/A'rist and Ilicaeth/Lythronath loved Azaylia/Hraedhyth keenly.

I loved this. Made me want to cry of course. But it was interesting to see how it hit them mid-jump between, your heart goes out to these two. Azaylia understood them best I think.
