Broad Leaves Hold: About an hour as the dragon flies due south of Monaco Hold proper sits a small Holding carved out of the dense jungle. Fields sit at some distance from the main portion of the hold, which seems to be designed with Wher breeding in mind. It was on 'Lidia's' sixth journey south to Broad Leaves Hold - to facilitate another shipment of Brewer Terren's special spiced rum - that she found herself invited to share a drink with the hold's heir (and lord in pretty much all but name), Kelvar. Not daring to appear hesitant, but not being ready for the sudden meeting, Alida nodded her easy acceptance to the somewhat youthful Steward, and took her leave of Terren and Orris. Along the way to the holding - while speaking casually of the weather and trading business, the two pass not only the wher compounds and enclosures, but a few other people traveling the broad path through jungle greenery, as well...one of them almost as road-dusty and plain as 'Lidia' is, herself. Too bad the slightly stiff-backed, rather sourpuss-faced man nor his companion can be studied in detail, as that would attract unwanted attention, but at least Ilicaeth can try to help her better remember those faces later on. Within the cooler depths of the hold, the tall-ish and somewhat strongly-built Kelvar met them half way, his civil greeting a typical mix of formal stiffness and casual curiosity found in most who might greet a person they've heard about, but had yet to meet. A small bow from Lidia allowed her to take him in a little more slowly, and find that the heir was not only somewhat shorter and less hulking than his alcoholic father, but somewhat darker in coloration, as well. Steely blue-grey eyes that promised not to miss much were set into a somewhat broader, squarer face than Holder Varad's oddly chiseled visage, and his son's hair was brown - skin a pale olive - instead of the older man's greying, light-champagne blonde. Something might have nudged at the base of Alida's brain for a moment as their eyes met, but it went quiet soon enough. Though Kelvar's greeting and subsequent meeting with the 'trader' woman was more ceremonial than warm, Alida could easily see why he'd been the one to take Broad Leaves under his management, instead of his somewhat younger (and currently absent) brother. The thirty-something man was a natural at managing, had a decent head for hold business, and was rather popular with the folk under his care. He was also rumored by enough to be quite firm, but fair, and with an open ear policy, if the circumstances warranted. By the time the bluerider was pleasantly dismissed from the study, she'd found herself already half-way approving of him...rarer for a mistrusting type, like her. « Good thing there's wiggle-room in yer background... 'Lidia... » Ilicaeth swirled grittily around a mental smirk to his rider, the blue pointing out the exact point in the holder's conversation with her where an inflexible 'alibi' would have caused way too much complication (and thus questions). Alida/Lidia allowed an inner eye-cross and smirk as she responded, « First casualty... » « ...uv' battle is the plan. » Ilicaeth echoed right on his lifemate's heels, his parched baritone touched with dark humor. « Not bad, fer firsts. » He too, however, felt that primaeval little stirring in the lizard part of Alida's brain, though. Grudgingly, « Been wrong before... » the blonde mentally clipped of whatever her mind had perhaps been trying to bring to her attention, the woman instantly clamping down on and cutting off the instant surge of humiliation, anger, fear, and bitter disgust that threatened to make her expression much more suspect than its current easy curiosity implied. No words came from the burly blue dragon, just his mental grunt and that quiet hint of granite under her feet: support and utter understanding offered between more-than-equals...and it helped her keep her facade in place until business was done, an hour later. It was after a small, but appetizing dinner shared with Terran and Orris that Alida casually snuck off to meet up with the man who once claimed a bronze wher as his own 'partner,' and engage him in a 'meeting' that had nothing to do with marks, booze, or even casual conversation. All-in-all, a productive and even enjoyable day. |
