She wasn't so much aware of hurting as she was aware that everything hurt, spikes of pain hitting here and there that bled so swiftly into white-hot agony that she barely had time to register that they were something so dull as nagging and deserving of attention. She simply was not possessed of the will to move. There was nothing about her situation, from what little she could gather, that suggested it would be a good idea, or an endeavour that would be worth it. It was difficult to tell the difference between hurt and heavy.

There was air. Some. She was breathing, shallowly as it was. She knew that much.

Have to get them out. Have to keep them safe. Have to move them.

Laurienth's fear was drowned beneath an all-consuming fury, and it was this fury that exploded through her aching mind. « It was helping THEM that led to this! »

Tajireth. Is Tajireth gone? Did he go? Are they--?

« Who? »

Did I get N'dalis out? Can they save Suraieth's wing? What about--

« Stop. »

Only distantly did she understand that something in her assessment of the situation was wrong. Nothing made sense. Laurienth operated on her own agenda much of the time, so it was not unusual for their thoughts to not occupy the same path, but...

Laurie. They have to get them out of here. Tell Elaruth. Tell Isyath. If they keep bleeding...

« Isyath? » Confusion. More anger, born of Laurienth's intense distaste for her own incomprehension. « Stop it. Stop it, stop it, stop it. »

The barracks aren't safe.

The green grasped at one of the only things she knew for certain. « The girl. Our girl. Your girl. Casseny. She is okay. »

...Cassie?

Why was Cassie in the barracks?

« Stay still. If you hurt yourself more, I will hurt you. »

Her head swam.

Coughing, Ebeny dragged in a breath of dust and grit-filled air. "...Cassie?"

Pain flared at the base of her ribcage, then all went black.
