It is early yet, with plenty of time before drills or shadowing. The patio ledge isn't particularly crowded, but there are a few who seem inclined to take advantage of the summer weather to enjoy breakfast someplace a little more pleasant than the lower caverns. Akluseth is perched on an empty ledge well above, his twitching tail hanging over the edge as he waits for the meal to complete and the day to start. Edyis is sitting at what appears to be a recently vacated table, both hands wrapped around a mug of tea, and a plate of breakfast goodies within reach. Her dark eyes watching those just emerging from their weyrs to begin the day.

The earliness doesn't appear to bother Farideh, who emerges from the Snowasis, dusting one hand against her trousers while the other holds securely onto the handle of a klah mug. She squints against the golden, diffused light that fills the bowl, and sighs as her eyes scan the ledge, taking in the few that have chosen to relocate to the ledge over the crowded cacophony of the lower caverns. "Edyis, good morning," she greets, once she's crossed the space to stand, unhurried, beside the other weyrling's table. "Who do you have the pleasure of shadowing today?"

Edyis squints against the light, or maybe it's that she's trying to remember. "Good morning Weyrwoman, er weyrling." She corrects herself with a wrinkle of her nose for the error. "Choice shadowing, so it will either be Snowdrift, or potentially Glacier if either will have me," She seems dubious on the matter. "Have you eaten? There's plenty if you'd care to join me. Not that I would blame you if you didn't." There's a pregnant pause, "I think I might owe you an apology." The last carefully worded.

"I don't know that they get a choice, when it's yours, which you want to shadow, but who knows. I hear Taikrin is-- opinionated, but Mielline seems nice." Farideh's features school into something pensive, but her eyes flick towards the offerings that Edyis has on the table. "Thank you. I ate much earlier. I'm just trying to--" a gesture with her mug in the air, "get ready for the day." It's the last that catches the goldrider by surprise, pulling her gaze from the treats to the brownrider, her expression not betraying anything beyond consideration. "An apology? For what?

Edyis exhales slowly. "Maybe not where shadowing is concerned, but they get the choice of who they want as part of their wing. Which may as well be the same thing, I figure the Wings know what they need. Better than I know what we can offer at this point." There's a shrug then as she lifts the mug to her lips. "I do not envy you one bit, in fact.... I do feel a little guilty for betting on you." Edyis admits with something of a wry smile. It's that study however that earns a slow breath in, before carefully; "I made an assumption about you without trying to understand where you were coming from." She lifts a shoulder then. "I'm sorry for that."

"And what's the point of worrying about that? You can't control it and it's not as though-- it's life ending. You might end up in Alpine or Avalanche, but you're a smart girl, you'll adapt wherever they put you," Farideh says, watching Edyis contemplatively; it's an expression that stays for a while. "What do you mean? Did you tell people I smell?" Here, she frowns, and sniffs delicately at her shoulder, without unsatisfactory results. "I cannot think of what you're talking about, Edyis."

Edyis snorts softly for that. "Life ending, no. Life altering? Yes. Wings decide a lot. How much free time you will ever have if there's any chance of advancement in the future. I suppose it's a little different from your viewpoint." She arches a dark brow at that, "Who said I was worried; this is resignation to whatever happens. I can't change it, so I may as well accept it. Right?" She tilts her head then, "Then if you don't remember there's not much point in apologizing, I imagine." Evenly and without much emotion as her gaze shifts back to the bowl.

"Do you have your eyes set on something bigger in the future?" Farideh asks, her eyebrows lifting over querulous eyes. "You have much more opportunities than that. Work hard, prove yourself-- who knows, you could replace H'vier one day or Taikrin even." She chooses then to sip cautiously at her klah, ever vigilant of the steam still swirling off the top of the dark brew. "Edyis, I can hardly remember who I had meetings with a sevenday ago, much less something that happened-- when? But if you don't think it's worth remembering, I'll certainly take your word on it," she replies, regarding Edyis questioningly.

Edyis shrugs then, both hands wrapped carefully around her own mug. "I'm still holding out that I'm young enough to learn from my mistakes. I mean, I'm twenty-one, I can't have ruined my life just yet." She quips jovially. There's a grimace at H'vier's name, "Ugh. Don't remind me, he and Yesia kept flirting, complete with innuendo I might add, the entire time we were shadowing glacier together." She laughs then, for Farideh's cause of faulty memory. "No, I don't suppose you have time for trivial things much these days. Who knows, maybe when the next queen rises you will get an assistant to split the workload?"

One hip bumps against the chair closest to her, at the same time she suggests, "Have you talked to K'del? I understand that he's made a lot of mistakes. From when Cadejoth caught Tiriana's queen, all the way up to-- certainly, he's not perfect. He has plenty of flaws, but he's competent at his job, more so than many riders. Perhaps, you could ask him how he went about it. I wouldn't say give up now," and she continues on a bit more wry, "otherwise, what will I do?" Of the green weyrling and Avalanche's wingleader, Farideh simply scrunches up her nose in distaste. "I hope to get an assistant before then."

Edyis lifts a brow at the suggestion of speaking with K'del. "I'm fairly sure he doesn't have time to be chatting up a weyrling. Besides he made it pretty clear last time we talked what he thought." It isn't precisely a flinch, but there's something there. "You have someone in mind?" Assistants are safer topics after all. "I wondered whatever became of the girl that used to help Azalia... Didn't she come out of High Reaches Hold or something?"

"That's kind of his job? Seeing to the riders and wings of the Weyr, and you are a rider now, however far graduation may be. You should go talk to him. He's not completely unreasonable and I'm sure he might have some wisdom for you, if you're up to taking it," Farideh says, switching her klah from one hand to both and taking a generous drink. "I think Faryn will do nicely, until there's another clutch anyway. She wants to stand again. Then, I'll have to find someone else." There's a pause, a frown. "Whom?"

Edyis closes her eyes a moment as though searching for a name. "Hana, there was the convict who slept on her couch too, Bones." She opens her eyes again, and there's something of a quirk of her mouth, "Since it's you offering the advice I will see if I can maybe chase the man down. I make no promises." At mention of Faryn's name the former scribe grins, "Even if she does choose to stand, I'm sure you could arrange for her to do her chores with you. There's only worry if she impresses there." Her expression clouds a moment, "Be good for her to figure out things there I think. Be exposed to different ways of living."

"Hana," is repeated softly. "I've never been an advocate of K'del's, but he-- has experiences that are relevant, especially in this, to you. I'm sure he still doubts himself and his actions, at least occasionally." Farideh doesn't dwell on the weyrleader's guilt overlong, and shrugs away the thought as carelessly as she would a dress that didn't fit. "Faryn? You're concerned about Faryn? Whatever happened to everyone being concerned about me, or has my inexperience worn on people that much," she says, not without laughter backing the words. "Tell me true. You're worried?"

Edyis tilts her head to study Farideh, unable to completely mask the disbelief in her expression. "I do believe my dear, that you have grown up." She laughs even more brightly then, "You will be fine so long as Irianke's around to do the heavy lifting for a while. I am perfectly confident she will have you trained to meet even Nimae's standards by the time you are forced to take over the job solely on your own shoulders." She teases, but of worry, Edyis exhales softly. "For you? or for Faryn?" She tilts her head then, and there's something apologetic in her expression, "I have nothing but affection for you. I think it would be best for everyone if Niahvth saw fit to rise first, give you a chance to grow into the job." She pauses and allows, "I worry about Faryn because I understand in some respects what it feels like to be the one left on the sands. I was lucky, I had Savannah and other things and never was one of those who thought life might end if I didn't impress." She pauses then, as though searching for the right words. "Faryn though, she has her mother's example for one, it's in her blood, so there is that to square with. But she is also just starting to figure out who she is without the same framing she knew before. I think she wants more, but still doesn't know what that more is yet." She shrugs, "I could have my observations completely wrong in that though."

"Say it isn't so," Farideh sighs, glancing towards the growing activity out in the bowl. "I'm more concerned for your thoughts on Faryn. I don't know if she shares everything with me-- no, she doesn't, and it would be good to know other perspectives. Do you think she's got her heart set on Impression that much? I remember when she swore she would never-and now? It's unfortunate, but it happens and she should--" She opens her mouth, then bites down on her lip, and shakes her head with a smile. "A conversation I should have with Faryn, I suppose."

Edyis laughs, "I figured that was the way you felt about it too." But she grows a little more somber at the discussion of Faryn. "I am not sure if it was something she always secretly wanted, but was afraid to want, because of what it did to Fadra. Or if she feels there's something missing in her life that can't quite be filled otherwise." She lifts her shoulder and wonders, "Finish that thought if you don't mind." She smiles, "And it probably is a conversation that should be had at some point. But, she has to figure some things out for herself. We all do, even if the answer is obvious to everyone else until you see it for yourself." There's a shrug, as she pushes the chair back from the table.

"I'm sure that she will, with time." Farideh steps back when Edyis pushes her chair back, and passes her mug to her left hand. "Is it that time already?" she only half-asks, the other have rhetorical and mock-dismal. "Good luck with whatever wing you're shadowing today," is her parting thought, offered with a bright smile and a succinct nod, before she's moving away, towards the stairs, and back into the heart of the lower caverns, where all her duties lie.
