A letter sits on the edge of Silva's bed, all marked to be sent out, but not yet posted.

Craftmaster Sirasan - Tillek Hold"

Her father's bold name is written in Silva's careful hand. It laid out everything that had happened in recent months, after her aunt had admitted not saying anything to her family about Silva's abrupt change of plans. It would only cause trouble she'd said, echoing the words of the Weyrleader.

Covered in dust from the hatching where she had not impressed Silva settles on the edge of the bed, reaching for the note. Her hair askew she looks at it, turning it over in her hand. It represented power. If she //really// wanted to she could send it, just change the name on it. Send it to Lady Tillek instead. Make it sound like the weyr was keeping her against her will.

It would be payback on everyone who had made her life hard here. For every broken nail, split end... everything.

But no.

Slowly she takes the letter and tears it in half, listening to the slow crinkle of paper as it tore.

She wouldn't do that.

There was one more clutch on the sands. One more chance to try to break away from her aunt, and prove to her parents that she was able to take care of herself. Yesia had done it, she could do it too.

Tossing the pieces onto the gound Silva resolutely pulls herself up.

She needed to do her hair. Get some clothing that wasn't so dirty. Carefully she composes herself, setting behind a firm cover of arrogance. She wouldn't let anyone know she was disappointed by not impressing.

Firmly she fixes her mind on something else - the mixer she'd started planning before the hatching happened. The guest list gets adjusted - there few fewer candidates to invite now. Maybe there would need to be a few more riders invited too. The guest list needed to be balanced.

Another letter could always be written after the next hatching. Best to leave the options open.
