| It's a clear and cold early evening that finds the bronze weyrling out and about, taking in the sights. Or, rather, the 'sights' being a couple of weyrlings with their dragons out on the far ledge, finishing up a card game. T'gar claps R'kas on the back as he gets to his feet, the other tossing a mark piece towards him as he collects up the deck. "Bold, challenging a Bitran," Rat is telling him, his smile full of teeth. "Better luck next time, though. I'll get the rest later!" The one called R'kas flaps a hand back at him - yeah, yeah - as he beckons his little brown along behind him - leaving the bronzepair on the ledge. "Is it really fair scheming that poor little brown pair out of their hard earned marks." A voice lilts from the direction of the lake, Edyis in her usual Jogging gear though bundled a bit more warmly for the weather. She grins at the younger male flashing her teeth in a too wide smile. "I forgot how quickly they grow. Before you know it he'll be bigger than Akluseth, and you and I will likely be sporting matching black eyes." The brownrider chirps, as she draws closer. "It's fair when it's won fair and square," Rat counters as he pockets the mark and settles back down on the bench beside his Asaroth. He looks over what could be seen of the lake in the fading light first before he steals a glance towards Edyis. A brow lifts on her comment about sporting black eyes, and the weyrling is casual in his lean back as he asks, "Black eyes. How so?" "I'll tell you when your older." She teases, tucking her hands into her pockets as she gives Asaroth a long study. "Things getting any easier, or getting any better?" The brownrider asks then, before looking to settle herself on an empty space in the bench. The look Rat gives her is strongly of the ' bitch, please ' variety for her answer. In a rumble as he gives Edyis a measuring look, "You don't look much older than me," he notes dryly. "I'm sure I've done more shit than you, too, little lady." Pause. "Things are," is his stubborn answer to her question, still glaring at her for the first. "You would know how it is, having been through it yourself. Awfully late to be out running." "And here I thought you had a sense of humor." Edyis notes, with a stretch and a yawn. "Every pair is different. Akluseth was my lifeline, before I knew I needed one. I'm curious as to what he will become for you." She notes settling in and indicating the growing bronze. "Needed to wake myself up and clear my head. Running helps." She cants her head in his direction, "This place will make you crazy if you let it." "Whatever gave you that idea?" Rat quips back as he pulls out the mark piece and plays it across the fingers of both hands. On dragons, though, there's a shrug with a look towards Asaroth as he watches the lake before he answers, "He'll become what he becomes to me. That's either the bane of my existence, my meal ticket to greatness, or a chick magnet." He snorts on the Weyr being crazy, but he asks, "And what's here for you to make you crazy enough to run? If the answer's enough for me to handle at my age." Edyis laughs at talk of meal ticket and it's ilk. "It isn't your age, it's that big red flashing list of restrictions the lot of you are under." Edyis notes with a lift of a shoulder, and the question draws a thoughtful answer. "Trying to figure out what comes next seems to be the biggest one. I thought everything would be apparent when we graduated, but these days all I seem to see are the things that I can't do. The ever growing list of impossibilities. I figured I'd go for a run and maybe stir up a fresh idea." "Which restriction got under your skin when you were in my position?" T'gar asks her with a touch of amusement in his low voice. "Was it no booze? No sex? not going where you want?" Her answer on the last gets an acknowledging nod, "And here I thought the restrictions ended once we were no longer weyrlings," he muses to that. "You're not painting Asaroth and me a pleasant picture of our future, you know." Laughter floods her voice, and those ink-dark eyes focus on him. "It was the loss of control, and of my freedom. The idea that the rest of my life will be dictated to me by a bunch of shiny hides and hormones. It caught on a thread of rebellion I didn't know I had." She admits wryly as her gaze tracks back to the lake. "It isn't my job to fill your head with unrealistic dreams, I think I'd be doing you a disservice if I did." She chuckles softly, "It isn't all terrible, but I never had things like team sports growing up. Learning how to work with others, that took me longer." "Unexpected," Rat says to that first on restrictions for her. "You don't look the rebellious type. And, now? Your rebellious streak is still being suppressed past weyrlinghood? As for the future," he adds as he straightens, skipping the mark piece along his knuckles, "well....I prefer looking at things in a more positive light, unrealistic or not. I'm in a better position than I was a turn ago. That's got to mean something. And anyway, I didn't come here with any expectations, so there's no diservice being done." "I grew up in a place where you did what you were told, and that was the end of it." Edyis notes bracing her palms on her knees, "And when I came here at first it felt like anything could be possible. I relished that illusion." She tosses a glance at him smiling, "People are rarely ever what you'd expect when you really get to know them." She grins, "Truly? Everyone wants something, or else they wouldn't try to change anything." She taps her chin studying him, "Let me guess, your girlfriend ran off with the bakers boy and you thought you'd get even?" The sparkle in those eyes might suggest a tease, but her tone sounds serious enough. Brow lifting, "Anything is possible," Rat notes to her first as he skips the mark piece. "Look at me. Got me a mark today. Impressed a dragon. None of it looks like an illusion to me. Of course, there's things I want, but I didn't come here expecting them. I didn't expect to Impress Asaroth, and yet?" he gestures toward the bronze. "Life's easier when you don't expect, little lady. Makes things simpler. Eliminates disappointment." That last gets a snort and a shake of head from him before he answers, "If any girlfriend ran off with a bakers boy, it'd be proof enough that she wasn't worth my time. I meant more about my position in life than something like that." Edyis smiles as she watches him skip the coin over his knuckles. "So anything is possible just don't expect it to be possible. Sounds somewhat convoluted when you phrase it that way." She tilts her head to the last, "What did you do before, in Bitra?" Ed's summarization gets Rat to laugh, but he doesn't comment further on it. He answers her last instead with, "Worked with runners under my father until I had enough of it. Play a lot of card games. Gained marks, but mostly lost it." Blue eyes go towards the bowl when his bronze suddenly turns his way, something perhaps passing between weyrling and dragon getting his amusement even though he asks her, "You? Before this place?" "Probably exactly what you would guess, a little innocent hold girl. I learned a trade after coming here." She smirks, "Sounds rather boring when you phrase it like that, no offense." She looks to the bronze thoughtfully. "I should probably get going, but there's a poker game that happens usually once a seven, I think we are doing it at the Snowasis this time. Since you can have your one drink now you should come by if you get the time." Pushing to her feet then. "What trade was that?" Rat asks, ever inquisitive as that mark piece continues to dance over knuckles. "As for my life that you're judging," he adds with a look, "can't always be gather tricks. I had the simple life of a young man given the only option open to him at the time in his family." Edyis is getting up to leave, and the weyrling looks out over the darkening skies before he nods and says, "Probably a good time for grab some grub." Getting up now too, "Yeah, might," he anwers on poker night with a stretch. "Need to put some effort into studying first. See you around, Ed. Ma'am." "Scribe work." She notes, and there's a smile at the rest. "See you around T'gar." |
