| All that quiet and normal trade was just too good to be true. With spring bringing warmer weather and many of the passes over the mountains clearing out, the raiders are striking anew along the roads between Boll and Gar and Gar and Fort and Fort Sea, leaping out to steal from traders and then fade away into the undergrowth as quickly as they came. For the most part they seem to be sticking to not causing permanent damage, though one elderly trader from a small family has been reported as killed while on his way north to Fort Sea's upcoming Gather. More disquieting is the badly mangled and 'shark'-bitten body that washed ashore two days ago on the 12th of month 4 just to the west of Big Bay hold. Found by fishermen out early to make a catch, the badge and knot have identified the body as the journeyman seacrafter who was assigned to the crew that sailed out of Southern Boll bound for Big Bay. This is the ship that was supposedly lost in the storms that plagued the bay between the Fort coast and Ista island during the 3rd month of the turn. However, amongst the bites and in spite of considerable disfiguration from being in the water for so long, the body shows clear signs of knife wounds, setting off rampant speculation about what actually happened to the ship known as the "Scudder". Word has it that the Weyrleaders have been looking fairly grim about all of this news and T'rev is pulling together a meeting of all the wingleaders and 'seconds as well as the weyrwomen to strategize. |
