Dragon:Vysravth

Rated MA Egg
It's white. Nice, plan, pristi-okay, never mind that last one. It looks like something died on it. Violently. The main splatter is on the very top of it, a large red stain that fades to dark mist on one side and dribbles wetly down the other, turning rusty as it dries.
Rated MA Egg is ready! None of this messing about stuff any more, it's time to break shell. The upper half is cracked in no time, and a bulky, pale head becomes immediately visible. It takes a bit of shaking, but the brown finally frees himself from the remaining shell, glistening wetly as he drops to the hot sands.
Hulking Sinister Brown Vysravth
Even in youth, this boxy brown looks like a dragon gone to seed: thick legs, bulging belly, a blunt nose matched in receding headknobs. But there's power there, too, in muscle buried under sheer bulk and a smooth-leather hide of almost uniform taupe. The color breaks only sporadically: a scuff here on the shoulder like maybe he ran into-or over-something; a little more graying around his temples; blunt lead-bullet talons on the end of each massive paw. Heavy, fibrous wings drape around his powerful shoulders, a mantle that would crush a lesser dragon. But he's a no-nonsense creature, pure physicality locked in his squared haunches and squat neck, matched with a certain ruthlessness in his small, dark eyes.
Temperament
The pale, bulky mass of your dragon is a mask that hides a dark brooding personality and ambition. While some might mistake Vysravth for slow and unthreatening, your dragon is a /dragon/ -- a natural predator with a keen sense of violence that has been tempered only by your more civilized nature. Granted, you are an exile -- so you are not as civilized as mainlanders -- and neither quite is Vysravth. Your relationship is primarily one of accord. You are both ambitious. You are both willing to go to extremes to get what you need (though if anything, you will need to learn to become the balancing part to this partnership.)
Privately, Vysravth feels very intimidated by the queens of the Weyr. Well, any queen, really. There's something about them -- that instinctive need to obey -- that he fears. He wants to believe that he has free will to act in all things and thus, in dealing with queens, he is both solicitous and overprotective in a way that, he hopes, will ensure he is never ordered against his will. That said, he will never confide in female dragons. Oh no. The women in his life cannot be trusted. Other male dragons? Yes, in time -- he will find the ones he trusts above all others. He has a strong loyalty to his family -- in this case his clutchmates. He doesn't always like them -- but he will defend them to the death. He senses the kinship you have with the exiles and this will show in his dealings with other dragons -- he will trust other exiles' dragons above any other. Nonetheless, he's bothered by the way Temrianth will ignore his boundaries, and distrusts Rhazekth's open-mindedness.
By no means is Vysravth angry all the time. No, indeed, if anything he is broody. Contemplative. Stuck in his head a lot. He'll contemplate a situation, take it all in, let it fester, /then/ act. Occasionally he is rash, and this comes out more frequently in his youth then anything. As a weyrling dragon he will be one of the ones pushing the boundaries, testing the lengths to which these mainlanders will hold you to their rules and laws. If he is told he cannot do something, his thoughts will immediately turn to contemplating doing the very thing he is told not to. This, of course, means that you will need to temper him for his own wellbeing if nothing else. You will learn very quickly if you let him have his way all the time, he /will/ get hurt, he /will/ endanger himself, you, and possibly others. Reminding him that your ambitions stretch further than the ignominy of weyrlinghood will normally get his attention. Not always, but normally.
During weyrlinghood, you will discover the best and the worst of Vysravth. He /loves/ to fish. He's a natural born predator, and he relishes the hunt. By the time he's old enough to fly, you'll find he's swift and canny in the air despite his bulk, though he does have a tendency to make rather a mess of his kills -- frequently requiring a good scrubbing afterwards. He's intrigued by all sorts of animals, as well, in a way that humans don't intrigue him. In fact, he shows very little interest in the humans of the Weyr, even the ones you're interested in, something he and Sforzath have in common. Animals, though, are something else. They have a mind of their own; they don't obey anyone. That's how he envisages you both: males of free will.
Vysravth dreams. At least you assume he dreams -- when he sleeps, you'll see him twitching, like he's stalking some silent prey. Sometimes you'll catch snatches of these dreams. Sometimes the dreams hold dark, or curious or simply strange images that you can, briefly, catch as he's waking. He doesn't remember the dreams, however, so can't explain should you ever ask him about them. Along with the dreams, there's something else. He will, at times, exhibit symptoms of extreme agitation that can be brought on by something that, to you, seems innocuous. Ysavaeth making a kill in front of him. A wild wherry flying underneath him. A feline crossing the bowl. He will be unable to explain the source of his sudden apprehension, and will require your reassurances to prevent him fleeing. There is no doubt this will be a source of extreme concern for you, but thankfully, as he grows into adulthood, these episodes will occur less and less frequently.
As an adult, the moods that struck him as a weyrling will settle down, and his own ambition (coupled with yours) will begin to shine. What does he want? He wants power, because you want it. How will he get it? By exemplary behaviour, by doing the best he can... but also by stealth, cheating and sabotage of others, if necessary. That old saying, the ends justify the means? Vysravth lives and breathes that saying. When you get your own weyr, Vysravth will exhibit a side of himself that will be new to you: a sense of pride, of ownership. Like a number of his clutchsiblings, he likes things that display wealth and well-being; he will encourage you to buy new furniture, new furnishings, to deck yourself out in the latest trends and styles, and generally dress yourself to the station to which both of you aspire.
Eventually, Vysravth will come to juggle two separate lives. There is the ambitious part of him that only you know fully, but others, trusted male dragons, will get to see and share in. The part of him that is ruthless and cunning, intelligent and predatory. There is also the other side of him that most of the Weyr will see: the exemplary brown, courteous of the Weyr's queens and, to all appearances, loyal to the Weyr as a whole. Only you know the truth: that the only person to whom Vysravth's loyalty remains steadfast, is you.
He likes his women, there's no doubt of that - even greens like Yanijath who irritate him more often than not. There won't be a flight that he won't be interested in despite your wishes otherwise -- it's a release for him, and not one that he will be denied. That said, his fondness for women lasts about the length of the flight. There's no cuddling or hominess afterwards; indeed, any sort of clinginess or attention on the part of the poor female afterwards will earn a stern rebuff. If he should be lucky enough to catch a queen, there won't be much difference there -- except perhaps protectiveness for the queen while she's guarding their eggs. As a sire, he tends to be concerned for the welfare of his children in an aloof sort of way.
Public Impression Message
The Hulking Sinister Brown has finished his assessment of those on the sands. Has he found what he's looking for? Hard to say, as he's peering between two candidates, looking from one to the other like he's maybe not sure. And then the first earns a dismissive flick of wings and he's crowding up to a shaggy-looking young lad, his head cocked to one side.
Private Impression Message
What's that feeling underneath your feet? Is the earth moving? Something heavy stepping just behind you? That rumbling noise you're hearing /should/ be distressing, but somehow, it's just not. It's soothing; familiar somehow. « That kid over there, why's he watchin' you like that? » The voice sounds like someone you know. Except that there's no one there but that bulky brown hatchling, who seems intrigued -- if one can interpret a dragon's expression in such a way. « What's an exile? Why are you an exile, E'gin? I think you fit right in, with me. I'm Vysravth. You and I? We're gonna shake things up. »
Mindvoice
Vysravth's mental voice is the bassy, thrumming tones of some mechanical device that might lie in the bowels of the smithcraft, often more felt than heard. His tone could be taken as somewhat gruff, exacerbated by his tendency to shorten or slur words together. « E'gin, we gotta go. Forgettaboutit. » The more intent his feelings, the louder his mental voice becomes, something that he's completely aware of. He could be intently trying to convince you that he wants to go for a swim /now/, and be at full volume, to your wincing dismay.
Itchyspots
You'll find that, even after he's grown, his headknobs tend to suffer from a continual dryness that needs almost nightly attention. It could be that you'll catch him sometimes rubbing his head against some rock or other in an effort to relieve the sensation.

Dragon Inspiration
Vysravth is based on Tony Soprano, from the HBO series the Sopranos. Tony is an intelligent, ambitious and often ruthless mob boss -- but also protective of his family, and concerned for his children's future. You asked for a darker dragon, one that is brooding (and Tony Soprano is definitely the master of brooding) and ambitious. The best quote I found that sums up your dragon is this: "One part of Tony has the sensibility of a poet and another part is the predator -- which is why we love him."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Soprano.
Vysravth (vis-RAFE-eth) came about in a fairly convoluted way. In the end, it was the thought of your desire for a name of a sinister nature -- ravens are sinister enough. That, combined with your preference for a prefix ended up as Vysravth.
