Loam and light drape across a shape that is awkward and immature. The majority of his hide is rich as the sediments of a river delta, exemplifying earthiness and the solidness of stone, head knobs and muzzle consisting of an even darker shade of brown. Although this young dragon is contrastingly chubby and angular, his frame is broad enough at the thorax and haunches to suggest that he will grow into something much more muscular. The hues of sandier soil whorl from ridge to ridge, the color graduating to darker tones over the middle of his back and onto a tail that begins thick but ends with whipcord thinness. His limbs tend towards a leanness that contrasts with chest and haunches. Broad wings promise strength, the sails the dusky color of silty water, while his feet are a more shadowy, richer brown than his muzzle, and end in talons that glitter like smoky quartz containing dark inclusions that are probably the quick of the talon.

The Most Beautiful Bloom Egg
This egg appears at first glance to be a more traditionally mottled egg than many of its clutchmates, majority of its surface awash in a mottled soft pink. This pink portion gives the illusion of flowers reminiscent of decorative floral blossoms. Upon one side of the shell is a white area, touches of pink, blue and black found within. Pink is once again predominant, and is a much more defined shape of a flower blossom, lines of blue and black growing outward from it in one direction. All is uniformly smooth to the touch.
The Most Beautiful Bloom Egg gives a violent shudder and cracks, the pink mottling of the shell crumbling onto the sands in chips. With another shudder, the egg emits a liquid pop that reverberates over the din of hum and hatching. The hatchling that tumbles forth from the ruins is most unfeminine -- a brown -- and he readily though laboriously rights himself.

Temperament
Niyuth is a grounding force, solid and earthy. If at any moment your head is in the clouds, Niyuth will be there to ground you. His stability makes him steadfast and persevering, but beware that such qualities grant him the potential for traditionalism and rigidity. Although comprised of a kindly heart, Niyuth sees the world as a place of hierarchy. He will see himself as having a niche within this hierarchy, and he will strive for his highest attainable goal within said hierarchy. Niyuth has a strong sense of humor that refines as he ages, and his dry presentation may be discomfiting to some who find humor from him unexpected.
From his earliest hours, Niyuth seems to understand that he is part of a community and part of a hierarchy. Although he is strong on comradeship, he will see it as his duty to be the best and the brightest at the tasks handed to him and his clutchmates. If there is something that he needs to work on, he will push you to help him with it. If there is something /you/ need to work on, he will push you to excel at it. He is, at heart, an overachiever and a perfectionist /and/ a stickler for the rules. If you are out of line, he will try to make sure that you return to what he believes are appropriate behaviors. Playing is something that he may have to be 'taught' about by his siblings, for he has trouble grasping the concept of doing something merely for the sake of it or /just/ for fun. He will seek harmony within his weyrling class and may serve as a good intermediary or negotiator as he matures, after his first few clumsy attempts. His earliest grips on humor may be sarcasm directed at you or his clutchmates, but this will slowly refine into dry humor often used to defuse tensions. It is during weyrlinghood that he will develop some eccentric quirks.
Niyuth's transition from weyrlinghood to the wings will be one in which he seamlessly fits himself into a different hierarchy. He will still push you and himself to excel at all activities. This includes even the dullest of tasks such as watch duty and sweeps. These must be done and they must be done to the letter. As a continuation of his experiences in weyrlinghood, he will make a solid and reliable wingmate, trusted by others to get the job done to best of his ability. With his need to please both you and his superiors, he will adeptly deal with concerns and criticisms, though you may have to guide him to which advice to listen to, should he be given conflicting information. As with weyrlinghood, if you get out of line, he will make sure to reel you back in to the best of his ability (though the two of you may argue about just what 'out of line' is). Anything less than perfect and by-the-book will not be acceptable and will lead to his wanting to practise with wingmates or other dragons that he can encourage to join him, humour used to try and nudge others into responding as he wishes. If you are willing, you and Niyuth have the capacity to climb the wing structure, bit by bit, step by ordered step.
Niyuth will slowly mature into a brown interested in flights. However, it may take some time before he sees himself worthy of chasing a gold. He will primarily stick to greens at first, and if he becomes adept at those and attains confidence, he will readily court golds. In flight, he is strong, sturdy and powerful. Although he is not the largest of browns, he has the staying power to last with many bronzes, and his manoeuvrability in the air is greater. His strategy in flights will often be to outmanoeuvre rather than out fly his larger, stronger bronze competitors, though he may have trouble pulling the same trick with smaller blues. He will readily want to participate in flights, but if the rider of the dragon makes you uncomfortable or if flights in general make you uncomfortable, he will try defer to your preferences as much as a dragon's nature will allow. Should he sire a clutch, he will be a dutiful and attentive sire as far as his mate permits, wanting to watch over his offspring and make sure that all is well in the hatching cavern.
Niyuth loves you with all of his heart. He is a perfectionist and occasionally dogmatic, but he does this out of the depths of his love for you. His goal is to have you succeed, and for him to succeed with you. Although he tends towards seriousness, his dry humor can bring needed levity to tense situations. His quirks include but are not limited to enjoying fish (if he can catch them), and spreading his toes in mud, wet sand, or soft earth. Hopefully, the two of you will learn to work together in a relationship that plays upon each of your strengths. He will defer to you in many decisions, but be warned that he will always stick to the rule book. What your challenge may be is to influence what is contained within that rule book and who has the right to write within it.
Public Impression Message
he Enigma of Earth and Stone Brown marches along the line of candidates, peering at each one to inspect for fault or imperfection. His pace is confident and sure, but he takes his time to make the right decision. As he reaches the end of the row, he whirls unsteadily around and begins to sniff feet. He stops in front of a Fortian lad to take a second sniff that leads to him licking the young man's ankle. Yes, feet and ankles are the deciding factor.
Private Impression Message
Briefly, you feel the odd flicker of a dragon's tongue against your ankle. The next moment you feel a foreign consciousness meld with yours, the experience containing the staggering brutality of being caught in a rockslide, and for that fraction of a moment, you wonder if the cavern is collapsing. The shake and rumble of clattering rocks is violent and disconcerting, but as the sensation fades you realize it's just in your head (but no less real to you, to be sure!) It is replaced by two things: the gentle tink and clatter of pebbles on pebbles, and the warmth and satisfying earthiness of fertile soil. « You are much more than satisfactory. You are worthy, » a reassuring voice tells you, thick and viscous as mud. « I am Niyuth. You are A'lorin. We have work to do together. »
Mindvoice
Dirt, mud, rocks, clay, caverns and the grind of tectonic plates comprise much of Niyuth's tone and timbre. He expresses frustration, anger and other forms of negativity like the subduction zones of plate tectonics: volcanism, earthquakes and the grind and bubble of plate against plate. It gives off a taste and smell of sulfur. Excitement is the sound of rocks falling: clattering pebbles for tempered excitement and a rockslide for rushing excitement. Dry humor is expressed like molding dry clay while sarcasm is expressed by drips of water from stalactites. Standard exchanges are like dirt and mud, one falling through the fingertips and the other a viscous soup.
Dragon Inspirations
Your dragon was inspired by Taoist elemental philosophy, particularly the grounding element of earth with some properties of the element of water. While considering this philosophy, I also considered the Chinese zodiac and so your dragon is also based on the Ox. I used both the Ox and the element of earth (mostly toying with the theme of loam and soil) in his description.
Egg Inspiration: Mulan's comb from the film 'Mulan'.
Name Meaning
Niyuth is a combination of Chinese characters that mean mud (Ni) and silt (Yu). This is a reflection on the earthiness of Niyuth's appearances and personality.
