It's around lunch time that the weyrling complex is at a lull in activity, with weyrlings seeking food in the living caverns or, if needed, grabbing a nap prior to the afternoon activities. Aislara has grabbed a small satchel of goods from the living caverns and returned to the complex. She moves to the Weyrlingmaster's office and knocks a few times before she opens the door and peers in. "Ma'am?" she calls, making her way inside. "I went and grabbed some meatrolls, dried fruits, and a few other edibles from the caverns. I thought we could enjoy a meal during our meeting?" She makes her way in and goes towards the nearest chair to claim.

Ebeny has spent most of her morning at lessons with the older class, and her recent return to her office, on time, if a little harried, has seen her begin to go through the files pertaining to that class, some of which are still stacked before her on her desk. She looks up when Aislara knocks on the door, then waves her in with a gesture that beckons towards the desk, just as she makes some more space by removing the files and locking them away with the rest of them. When she returns to her seat, she offers a quiet, "Thank you," in answer. "I've not had the time to go to the caverns yet. Hopefully, we'll both have better luck this evening."

"I think all are finally adjusted enough that evening time doesn't require us around as much as it used to," Aislara comments as she settles down. She begins to pull food out from the satchel, passing two napkin-wrapped meatrolls Ebeny's way. "I assumed you'd be in here and unable to eat, so I thought I'd bring enough for two." She settles her own meatroll on a portion of Ebeny's desk nearer to her. "And I hope you don't mind that I'm joining you here? Now that I'm seated, I don't want to get up," she adds with a small smile directed towards the Weyrlingmaster. "Two classes always leaves you so worn down." She holds up a hand, quick to add, "Not that I'm complaining."

"Aislara..." The gentleness of Ben's voice doesn't quite conceal her chiding tone. "We've worked together for how many turns? You can relax a little, you know." It can't be the first time she's said so, but it doesn't stop her trying anyway. "Thank you," accompanies her acceptance of the meal offered, one roll let to sit at the edge of her desk while she bites into the second and chews without seeking to speak at the same time. "You've served enough turns that you could probably do my job for yourself," she remarks, half-thoughtful with it. "But anyway. Are you seeing any major concerns with Eliyaveith's weyrlings? I don't think any of them are a danger to themselves, but that remains to be seen as their dragons get older and leave their baby months behind."

Aislara can't help the blush that surfaces at Ben's reminder. "I don't know how," she admits with a nervous chuckle. "I get easily flustered, I suppose." And as if to prove this point, her blush darkens. "I've served enough turns to be competent at my job," she shakes her head, "but I don't think it qualifies me for your knot, ma'am." She picks her fingers at one of her rolls, rolling a bit of flaky pastry between thumb and forefinger as she considers her question more seriously. "I haven't noticed anything that would indicate we should be concerned. As far as I can tell, most of them work hard and do their best. They've adjusted to their dragons, so far, I think. Is there anything you have noticed we should be more aware of?"

"You could be adventurous and drop the 'ma'am' too," Ben answers wryly, just before she takes another, small bite from the roll. "I think we need to keep an eye on how Dee and Taeliyth continue to adjust, but then we would need to pay closer attention to any goldrider, given what they have to shoulder when they graduate," she says soon after. "I find her nightmares concerning, even if they've become less frequent, though the fact that they're evident at least works in our favour. I'm not sure whether they mean she's hiding anything else, but... in my experience, you don't have nightmares for no reason."

Aislara hides the need to answer immediately behind a large mouthful of her meatroll. She shakes her head at Ben's mention of dropping 'ma'am' and then nods it in agreement to her comment on Dee. "She seems to be having a harder time," she adds after she's finished her meatroll. "But perhaps in time she'll find ways to cope. We can try and facilitate that as best we can. Lilah or Hattie may have the better angle for working with her, with their experience." Mention of the nightmares gives Aislara pause as she glances down at her lap and then back up to Ebeny. "I don't think she is the only one hiding something in this group. They're a bit different.. all of them." She shrugs, "I don't know if that's just my perception or not."

"She's... young." Ben shrugs and only looks vaguely pained about that. "Younger than most of the goldriders we've seen. I'm usually of the opinion that it's easier for the younger ones to adjust to Impression, but there're always a few who prove the theory wrong..." Whether or not she's put her foot in it there, she takes a mouthful of her lunch just to silence herself for a few moments. "I don't think we'd have had to keep watch on so many of them if they weren't... a little bit different. They might not be dangers to themselves so far as physical capabilities go, but... emotionally? Whatever the causes, I think that's going to take longer for them to deal with. I'm not even sure if it is Impression, with some of them."

"I can't speak to it being easier or not, only because I was so young when I Impressed Ryerith," Aislara answers candidly, unbothered by the topic now though it is likely in the past she might have blushed or become flustered by the mention of it. "Being young also means you make mistakes older weyrlings simply wouldn't," she continues, reaching for her neck and the puckered scars there. She stops mid-reach and settles her hands more firmly in her lap. "Where'd each hail from? Ka'ge seems to -- there's something sort of dark about him. And the others..," she trails off, shaking her head and then leaning back in her chair. "Perhaps we should require all the weyrlings talk with a mindhealer as a matter of course. To assess them in a way we aren't able to. Perhaps it'd stop problems before they even begin. Maybe someone would've caught the issues with M'vyn.. or Nala," she hesitates over the bluerider's name.

"Dee and her brother are from Southern, so we can't attribute any issues there to even adjusting to Weyr life," Ben replies, leaning back in her seat. "I half-think that Ka'ge is going through some sort of phase. You know how some kids," at least in turns compared to her, "are - going through cycles of who or what they think they are. This is his 'dark' one." She's just a little bit dismissive of it, and not. "Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a mindhealer on-staff," she supposes. "Or at least one specifically available to us. It would help if they were a rider too, but I doubt we've anyone trained to the level we'd need who was still young enough to Stand. Not that Impression is a must - any mindhealer in a storm." Only then does she brave, "M'vyn seems... better, since he started spending more time on his music. Is Nala...?" Sane? Balanced? Okay?

"You may be right about Ka'ge testing his boundaries," Aislara agrees, nodding her head as she picks at part of her meatroll. "And though being raised in a Weyr may make the function of one not that upsetting.., it is still something entirely different to be Impressed to a dragon." She nibbles on part of her roll rather than speak further. A nod is given as Ebeny considers her suggestion and she won't push it further than that. "M'vyn seems to be more.. normal," she agrees, blushing slightly as she shakes her head and looks over her shoulder and towards the door. Once she's sure no one seems to be coming in, she returns her gaze to Ebeny. "I think Nala is finding out who she is," seems like the safest thing to say.

"True," Ebeny agrees, now catching one foot up on the edge of her chair. "I don't... like the prospect of making weyrlings see mindhealers as a matter of course, but... the more times I see things I'm not sure we're equipped to deal with ourselves, the more I wonder if there shouldn't be standard checks every few months." She tilts her head, the question only in her gaze: does Aislara agree or otherwise? "They have their lives turned upside down and too many assume it'll only take a turn or less to adjust to it... Even those who want to Impress have no guarantee of being able to handle it." The greenrider doesn't push any further about Nala, but she acknowledges that she's taken the answer seriously with a slow nod of her head. "...I don't know," she murmurs. "Sometimes I think we forget everything that goes well when we're faced with things going wrong."

"If we make it a part of our training and everyone has to do it, I don't see how we would be doing a disservice to anyone. Those that need the help the most will have it available to them outside of us, or having the confidence to ask other riders', and those who think they have it handled may find they don't." She slouches for a moment against her chair, cradling that meatroll in her lap for a moment before she shifts forward to set it on the desk once more. "We could see if it works this time? And we can always make adjustments as we need to. I don't particularly have a mindhealer.., but someone must have a reference for one that'd be good for our purposes." She plucks at her lower lip in thought and then shrugs. "It's up to you, ma'am," she blinks and grins shyly at Ebeny as she corrects herself, "Ebeny, I mean."

"If we could find a mindhealer willing to train us in how to more swiftly identify what we can all agree are likely to be the most common issues... that wouldn't be a bad thing either," Ben thinks aloud. She reaches to finish off the first of the meatrolls and munches thoughtfully for a few moments. "I can't say that I know any mindhealers personally..." She smiles ruefully as she says, "Casseny might know names, but I'm not sure we should necessarily trust my teenage daughter's choices simply because she's craft-appropriate." Gesturing across at Aislara, fingers fanning out, she suggests, "Why don't you take the lead on this? Make enquiries; find some likely Healer candidates? We can discuss how it's going and I'll sign off what needs to be, if and when." She's tactful enough not to verbally address the instance of her name and not rank, but she can't quite hide the smile it draws from her.

"Casseny is an apprentice, isn't she? I'm sure she could recommend people all the same. I'll go to the Healer Hall tomorrow and begin making inquiries. Thank you for... letting me try this," Aislara says, smile no longer there but she seems pleased. "I know that those that have used the right mindhealer have benefitted." She doesn't say the who of that nor seem inclined to bother Ebeny any longer as she slowly gets to her feet. "I'll let you finish your lunch in peace. As soon as I've got information, I'll find you and let you know. In the mean time, I'll continue to keep my eye on them." She pauses near her chair, waiting for Ebeny's formal dismissal before she turns and heads out the door to the rest of her day.

"Aislara..." Ben finds her voice only as Aislara stands by her chair. "If you ever want to try anything, at least so far as our teaching policies go, you know I'm not going to think your ideas are silly, don't you?" It's really only partly a question, the underlying statement what she means to get at. She doesn't push at that either, but tells her, "Thank you for lunch," instead, only a nod to serve as what dismissal she might be seeking - nothing more formal than that. The Weyrlingmaster only takes a few more minutes for herself, for a few more bites of lunch and a last scan of some files are all she pauses for before getting back to the weyrlings.
