>---< Feeding Grounds, High Reaches Weyr >-----------------------------------<

Wedged between the lake and the rest of the vast bowl are the dusty
feeding grounds. Here, the well-trampled ground is contained by a sturdy
wooden fence, cutting right through one end of the lake to section it off
into a muddy watering hole for the animals. Several gates allow people in
and out, while at the back, large overhangs of rock provide the herd -- a
mixed bag of herdbeasts, wing-clipped wherries, and fat porcines --
shelter from storms or the hot sun. What grass survives is usually
bloodstained, but feeding troughs are stationed around the edges of the
  pen.

There aren't many that bother to watch their dragons feed in this type of weather, let's be honest. But there isn't one but two figures at the barricade between the bowl and the feeding grounds as Mivength wheels above the pen to find his lunch. One of those figures, however, is a dog; wet, bedraggled, Beastly is whining at C'ris' feet as he gnaws at a bone he has bravely fetched. The bluerider is bundled into a large coat, his hands unable to pet the dog as they've disappeared into pockets, and his attention is on some point beyond. Despite the weather and the way Mivength is making him wait, a soft smile lingers, without his awareness, at the edge of his lips.

K'zin is one of the other men in the Weyr so beloved by his dragon as to be exposed to this weather. Normally, Rasavyth would hunt outside of the Weyr, of course, but some duty must keep without the time to devote today and perhaps it is because K'zin can't go with him somewhere more pleasant to hunt that K'zin is paying penance by enduring the miserable, soaking torrents of freezing rain. He looks about as happy as Beastly sounds as he draws near the pair while Rasavyth sets about his business within the grounds. "Hey," is hesitant, even a little awkward, shoulders slightly hunched under his heavy wool coat and sodden brimmed hat that barely keeps the rain from dripping onto his face.

That smile disappears at the sound of the voice, the moods changed so quickly in K'zin's presence between man and beast. Beastly bounds to his feet with his bone, trotting over to the bronzerider to brush his wet body against legs in an attempt for attention. "Oh, hey," C'ris agrees with the sentiment, his own tone more bare, markedly, of any emotion. His brown gaze slips and slides briefly over K'zin and the traitor of a dog before it lifts to follow Mivength in some silent conversation, despite the rain that beats at his own unprotected face.

It's all the more awkward in the wake of that reception. The bronzerider looks unhappy, but doesn't deny Beastly his due, crouching down to give him a scratch, despite the fact that he must smell like wet dog. "Listen, C'ris," K'zin requests, just loud enough to be hear over the slaps of rain on muddy ground and rails alike, "I'm sorry about everything. This sucks. But I'm not-- I'm not gonna bother you. I was an asshole, and--" slept with his girlfriend, "Anyway, I don't blame you for not wanting to be friends anymore. I just wanted to say I'm really sorry." Then he's standing (sorry, Beastly), prepared to step away.

It is a long moment before C'ris speaks, a silence that consists of only the sound of that rain that draws out like he might not. His words when they come, well-- He only says tightly, "She's pregnant, you know." That he says nothing more might be calculated on his part. Even puppies sometimes have a bite.

It can be little surprise that K'zin freezes, expression shocked. "W-what?" No, K'zin didn't know. There's obvious, brief mental math done. "How-- long?"

C'ris' reaction is only a frown, disapproving, as he glances over K'zin. He doesn't answer, not yet at least; instead, he tears his gaze away with a sharp shake of his head.

The meaning K'zin takes from that is clear in the way he swear, "Oh, fuck!" before he's turning away, heading into the bowl first at a walk, then shortly into a run. Rasavyth, for his part, is unperturbed. He's still eating.
