Tempest in a Teapot Gold Egg
Jenryth lashes her tail, her chest rumbling with a thunderous moan. She shoots a glare at her mate. There's a storm brewing, from the look of her and it seems to be directed right at Dzurath. A hiss of relief whispers over the sands as she rises slightly, wings half-furled, to deposit yet another egg beside the others.
In a quick glance this egg is a maelstrom of color; at one end nimbus clouds billow in towering heights to eclipse sun's light with ominous threat. Murky undersides cast a dusky purple shroud which over-shadows crepuscular twilight hues. Spectral flare of jagged lightning flickers, briefly dispelling the gathering gloom. Riotous storm spawns kaleidoscopic turbulence to wind in ever-narrowing cyclonic spiral emanating from---a tiny porcelain teapot. Prolonged visual study reveals a hidden treasure, another layer of existence that seems to float just under the stormy outer level of colors; the fading daylight. A golden peace that winks in and out of view when least expected and forms a truly metallic heart for the shell.
Snow Rose Gold
This young queen is much like the snow rose, an exquisite flower that has a fragile appearance but in reality is capable of weathering the worst winter storm and still maintain her own vibrant sort of beauty. The tincture of her hide is an infusion of velvety red petals and golden mountain herbs, at once both enticing and yet also soothing on the eyes. Deepest rose that is augustly burnished glows over her frame from the crest of her brow, over the supple neck and along her sides. Shades more sun stained in nature curve over her rounded, dragonet belly and into the shadows under her forelimbs. Her large, gilded lily-like wings possess sails of blossom hinted honey that cling damply to her sides and back and contrast perfectly with the deeper, aurora rose hip hue of the arete that blooms along her spine from the crest of her head to the sinuous stretch of her tail. Delicately shaped knobs crown the slender form of her head and lend her an air of porcelain elegance that is unexpectedly at odds with the rather sassy look in her large eyes.
Temperament
Your dragon was inspired by the character of Idgie, played by Mary Stuart Masterson in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. Kathy Bates stars as an unhappy wife trying to get her husband's attention. After befriending a lonely old woman, she hears the story of a lifelong friendship between two other women (Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker) who once ran a cafe in town against many personal odds. The tale inspires her to take further command over her life. Of course this temperment is just an idea for you. You are welcome to play your dragon with any personality that pleases you.
Sililith is a charmer, someone who tries to brighten everything with her presence. But it is you who has charmed her, beyond her wildest imaginings, and you'll find out before long how wild those can be. It is you she has sought on the hot sands, and it is you she'll protect like no other friend you've ever had. From the moment she finally found you, it is your happiness that means everything to her, and throughout your time together she will bring you joy like no other could.
Sililith just wants to have a good time, especially in her early days when there are so many new things to experience. She may look like she isn't paying attention to her lessons when she looks up to the sky and starts telling you what the cloud shapes remind her of, but in realty she absorbs what she needs to and is just trying to bring fun into everything. This may cause problems with the Weyrling staff if she causes a laughing fit among the Weyrlings when their dragons pass on some funny thing she said or when she starts making a game out of what was meant to be a serious lesson. During those lectures meant for you, some lifemates go and play and others pay attention just to be with their riders. Sililith does both at the same time, and will share jokes or stories she's heard while you're listening to something she feels is too dry not to try to spice up with her anecdotes. While she'll always be fun loving and carefree, by the time Weyrlinghood is through she'll have learned the right time and place for such things. Though even as an adult you can always count on her for a needed reprieve from seriousness and that little extra touch of silliness.
She enjoys flying and the freedom it gives her. She works hard at drills without even seeming to, it will always be play to her. She enjoys flight even when the experience is marred by Thread, because it is the feeling of the wind and her agility she revels in, not what could happen with a false move. At the end of Fall she'll have a tally of how well you've done, like it was a game and she was simply keeping score. If she is ever injured she simply determines to do better next time, and she never remembers the disasters of Fall for long. She takes it as a personal insult if any of the dragons or riders of her weyr are injured, and she is a sight to see when she has a special friend or loved one to protect or avenge.
Sililith doesn't usually pay much special attention to the male dragons, other than as fellow dragons or wing mates. When her Flights are near she still tries to pretend that she doesn't notice the extra attention or consideration they give, but will play at playing hard to get. But as is her nature, she enjoys her Flights as much as she can, and once in its midst she wishes it would never end for she so loves to lead everyone on a merry chase. When it does end she goes back to her regular behavior, and it would be a very special dragon who could gain an attachment from her afterwards, clutch or no clutch. You are most important to her, and no result of a Flight could match what she feels for you, and she usually isn't inspired to try for a pale substitute.
Heavy with eggs, she knows how silly she looks waddling around, and she enjoys hearing your delight over the coming clutch. She keeps good spirits as she clutches, and you may not be surprised to hear her teasing an anxious clutch sire just as she teases you. She takes great joy in her eggs, arranging them again and again in zig-zags or circles, maybe even a smiley face pattern. Anything that strikes her fancy and makes the task into a creative pleasure. She will enjoy the hatching, not just as a proud mother, but also as an entity that loves to see others experience the joy of impression.
Sililith has sass and a spirit that will never be quenched as long as the two of you fly together. For every fear or uncertainty you have, you'll be given a moment of laughter or serenity. For every obstacle that crashes into your path, there will be a very determined dragon to push it out of your way. And for every day you give to her, she'll give you a lifetime.
But now shine on, and what care I, Who in this stormy gulf have found a pearl The countercharm of space and hollow sky, And do accept my madness, and would die To save from some slight shame one simple girl?
I said to the rose, "The brief night goes In babble and revel and wine. O young lord-lover, what sighs are those, For one that will never be thine? But mine, but mine," so I sware to the rose "For ever and ever, mine." And the soul of the rose went into my blood, As the music cleared in the hall; And long by the garden lake I stood, For I heard your rivulet fall From the lake to the meadow and on to the wood, Our wood, that is dearer than all.
Queen rose of the rosebud garden of girls, Come hither, the dances are done, In gloss of satin and glimmer of pearls, Queen lily and rose in one; Shine out, little head, sunning over with curls, To the flowers, and be their sun. - Portions of "Maud" by Alfred Tennyson
The soft blooms of summer are faint to the eye Where brightly the gay silver Medway glides by, And rich are the colors which Autumn adorn, Its gold chequer'd leaves, and its billows of corn. But dearest to me is the pale lonely Rose, Whose blossoms in Winter's dark season unclose, Which smile in the rigor of Winter's stern blast, And smooth the rough present by sighs of the past. And thus, when around us affliction's dark power, Eclipses the sunshine of life's flowing hour, While drooping, deserted, in sorrow we bend, Oh! Sweet is the presence of one faithful friend. The crowds that smiled on us when gladness was ours, Are Summer's bright blossoms which Autumn devours, But the friend on whose breast we in sorrow repose, That friend is the Winter's lone, beautiful Rose. - Author Unknown

As soft as the first edge of snowfall the voice of the Snow Rose Gold blooms in your mind, « Birgitte! Can I call you Brie too? » The dragon's mindvoice is clever, loyal, and most of all, loving in the gentle falling of words, crystal clear even in all the noise of the hatching, « Sililith. » More flowing snowflakes in the soft and sibilant name. « I have always been Sililith. Have you always been Brie? Have you always been waiting here, just for me? »
Dragon Inspirations
Snow Rose is a rare, hand-plucked native Chinese Herb Tea. Rose petals and herbs are popular in China's mountainous regions. Prized for its soothing properties, this herbal blend infuses a bright cup with a sweet, floral finish. I thought Snow Rose was just perfect for a High Reaches Weyr dragon.

Sililith - An unusual name for an unusual dragon and a one of a kind person. It's a name we've had for a while but hadn't used because it never seemed just the right fit until now. It's a blend of things: Silil is a Babylonian goddess, the mother of all horses. Silil also means many things in different languages, it's a type of persimmon, it means water, and in Juralic Sililia means 'Her'. We tried spelling Sililith different ways, but we found that we liked the pattern of all the 'i's and that other variations just weren't as special, they ended up looking like just any other old name, and that's not what we wanted for your gold. Finally, we found that Sililith stuck with us, making an impression just like yours, distinctive and beautiful, different from all others. You can call her by her full name, of course, but her name also has some good nickname potential. 'Lil' comes to mind for those serious moments, but we find 'Silly' to be particularly appealing. Whatever you decided to call her she's a Queen, both lily and rose in one.
Egg Inspiration: I'm not sure where the expression "Tempest in a Teapot" originated, I'm not sure if anyone does. I'm guessing maybe England? In any case, the phrase is an idiom meaning "a lot of excitement about a small problem; A great disturbance or uproar over a matter of little or no importance." The Middle English word 'tempest', meaning 'season' or 'storm', was derived from the French word 'tempeste ', meaning the same. The word originated from the Latin word 'tempus' meaning 'time'. An example of its usage is, "The argument was over quickly. It was a tempest in a teapot." The McCarthy Witch Hunt might be considered by some to be an historical example of a tempest in a teapot.
