Hear Me Roar Egg

Mangy red and yellow lines skitter across the egg's surface, looking like hair that's gone too long without a cut. The rest of the shell is mostly left untouched by colour, leaving it with a pale-as-ivory hue. Though, there are a few exceptions: there's a single dot of brown in one spot, while a thin stripe of black outlines a circle in three other areas.

Kapow! The Hear Me Roar Egg splits open all of a sudden, shards flying outward in a small rain of sharp pieces. Tumbling and rolling across the sands, a compact ball of mottled blue hide, head tucked firmly into haunches so that the little guy's color and build are hard to make out at first. Finally the Motley Mischief-Maker Blue hits another egg hard and bounces off, coming to a halt in a little hollow of sand. Slowly he unfolds, rear legs dropping away to wiggle toes into the grounds' grainy surface, forelimbs descending after and at last a pair of dark, red-tinged eyes peeking out as his head lifts, leaving a tiny, roly poly bundle of quivering energy on the sands.

Motley Mischief-Maker Blue

What some might consider ugly, others may think endearing and this little blue's squat, ungainly cornflower-painted form certainly has the potential to elicit both reactions. Overly broad through the forehead, his nostrils sit perched up high, endlessly perky above a too-short chin and a mouth that stretches almost impossibly wide between his jaws. Dark, liquid eyes, circled with pale aqua, are tip-tilted beneath barely-there eyeridges, their deep midnight drowning facets in near-invisibility. Long headknobs seem to almost flop off the back of his head over a short, thick neck that bears incongruously spindly ridges. Too-long wings washed with mottled blue-violet above display rosy pale lavender beneath the sails where they meet his body when open. Wide of stance, short stumpy legs freckled with indigo hold up a roly poly body that is far from balanced by a tail that seems to end far too soon and is often coiled up in a little ball against his body to keep it out of the way. Talons of polished ultramarine curve wickedly from rounded paws, furthering a sense of mixed messages from his physique.

Temperament

Energetic, off-beat and headstrong, Kelerith can be off-putting to others in spite of his outgoing tendencies. As a dragonet he's a little awkward and often gets into tumbles, tangles and scrapes. As he grows he has incredible physical and mental agility and strength, though he's still a well-meaning bundle of unsophisticated energy who needs your gentler touch and guidance to curb his wilder tendencies. Your patience and ability with young children will come in more than handy for dealing with this eternal three-year old, who often tantrums when he doesn't get his way and can become unwittingly destructive without meaning to. In spite of this darker side, Kelerith has a deeply loving heart, especially where you're concerned and as he matures this may extend outward to others, especially those who show love, admiration or respect for you. The best way to get on Kelerith's good side is to be on /your/ good side, or to be among the few whom /he/ believes sincerely have your best interests at heart.

In trouble from day one, knocking things over, getting into things that he shouldn't and pushing in where he may not be wanted, your Kelerith is a bundle of contrasts that may often seem utterly exhausting and overwhelming. Too exuberant with his clutchmates, you may often find yourself stepping in to mediate or just plain trying to distract or re-direct Kelerith from causing mayhem in the Barracks. He's not malicious, or cruel, but he's awfully clueless about how the world works and what other people and other dragons expect. Though his gestures towards others are often well-meant, he just can't quite seem to get everything to come together right: « Thought Cadejoth would like meat in cot. Sorry, Eila. » Though he tries to reach out, be friendly and well-behaved towards others, he's also not exactly loving towards anyone but you, reacting with suspicion until he gets a sense that he can trust the other person or dragon. Even with you, he has a poor sense of limits, pushing things too far sometimes, though he's mortified when he messes up and your displeasure or disappointment go farther than anything else towards affecting him and getting him to realize that he really made a big mistake. Likewise your gentleness and approval are the best incentives for getting him to do better, try harder to mind the headlong rushes of his young body through others' space.

Time and patience help to tone down the extremes in his personality and bring out the generous nature beneath selfish single-mindedness and inattention to environment. Tempered by his bond with you, Kelerith will become a powerhouse fighter who would have been a fearsome force against Thread. As it is, he still shreds his way through rope drills like a maniac and is a whirling dervish of frightening agility in aerobatic exercises making him much in demand for obstacle course challenges during Inter/Intra-Weyr games or display flying. You might be surprised by moments of philosophical reflection in your energy ball blue as he matures and his understanding of the world deepens and grows richer. His approach to it however, will never lose that unconventional edge, be it by expressing his love for you by dumping a load of « Pretty rock » on your ledge or painting paw-prints on the wall of your weyr to 'decorate'. His tendency to enjoy climbing up the sides of the Bowl using his talons as pitons may also perplex and strain your patience. In fact, climbing seems to be a special skill of his and is something you may catch him doing in other places with high cliff walls for him to explore. He'll never tire of this game, even as he gets older, relishing the challenge, even if he has two perfectly good wings for flying and he /does/ enjoy flying quite a bit. Whether in his quieter moments of thoughtfulness or lightning quick understanding in the air, you'll come to find that in spite of his childish modes of speech and lack of social graces, Kelerith is in fact, quite clever and downright wily in some situations, especially good at thinking fast 'on his feet', so to speak. This will serve him well as time goes on and he learns to control the worst of his excess impulses and displays an innate if inelegant sweetness more and more.

Flights may be something of a trial for Kelerith, especially when he's younger. Lusty feelings will be difficult for him to come to terms with until he can find a groove that he's comfortable with. In his first few flights, he'll start things out by being overbearing and too gung-ho, too point A to point B, exhausting himself early and dropping out or even tearing holes in the pack causing multiple collisions. « Out of way! Green /mine/! » As he matures, he'll get craftier and wilier, getting to know the green in question and figuring out touchpoints about her and her style to help him get an edge in the air. Full of braggadocio and macho display, he'll try to win that green over by showing off and using some pretty dirty tactics. He does a very good 'aww aren't I cute' impression too, if being a flashy show-off isn't working. This can produce comical results in the air, with him barrel rolling around and tucking his paws up, tail furling and unfurling while he bats those big dark eyes of his at his lady-du-jour. Should he actually develop feelings for a particular green though, expect an odd 180 in his behavior and for a tender, gentle side to turn up. His efforts at courting though, will be typically Kelerith, well-meant, sincere and utterly lacking in good sense or taste. « Kelerith bring you big snot ball for breakfast? » (okay maybe not snot but ...). If Kelerith catches such a green he's especially fond of, you can expect his devotion, even if inappropriate to continued past the bounds of the ridiculous, even if it's terribly sweet. Gifts left on his lady's ledge of dubious quality and freshness (how long has that wherry been dead?) and tagging along after his Very Special Green even if she's trying desperately to get rid of him. When his feelings are not returned he can get a little down at heels, but ultimately his feelings will slowly fade when unrequited until the next time he develops a crush. If it's mutual though, 'ware the happy-fluffy-bunnies even if they still involve copious amounts of old feathers, strange rocks and old shoes dredged out of the lake as 'presents'.

Public Impression Message

After beating up an egg or two with his tree-stump tail and pouncing on some of his siblings playfully, the Motley Mischief-Maker Blue finally stops careening around like a wild thing and charges off decisively towards a young lady with reddish hair and light eyes. His approach is rapid and unswerving, the dragonet rearing up on his haunches and reaching broad paws up to the girl's shoulders to claim her firmly as his own.

Private Impression Message

All of the sounds on the Sands suddenly seem to intensify, the crack of a shell, the pop of an egg blowing its top, the hiss of tails dragging along the ground towards expectant candidates. Colors take on added sharpness, odors a pungency they never had before and the heat beneath your feet is both more bearable and more extreme than ever. This surfeit of sensation makes your skin scream for relief, your eyes seek the welcome blindness that lids might provide, your nose cringe between pinched fingers, your ears long for the comfort of palms blocking out too much, too much of everything. But then, then, you understand it, grasp it in some way as if the world just shifted sideways and the meaning of the universe is right there, just within reach. Reaching, seeking and /finding/. Found. He's found you, yes he has and you've found him and everything in the world makes perfect sense. You don't need him to tell you his name or that he needs to eat and be oiled, because you just /know/ it all like you knew it all along. Kelerith is hungry and itchy and wants to go /now/.

Mindvoice

A variegated mish-mash of sounds come together to make up Kelerith's mindvoice. It's not that he can't or doesn't use words, but it's just so much quicker to fast-flash something meaningless but expressive first, or let his quick-fire emotions burst first in a rapid-fire patter of meaningless syllables. These coalesce eventually into words as he slows down long enough to put together sound and image into something that you can actually understand. Still his speech is a little short and clipped: not one for the big words your Kelerith, he speaks in succinct, brief phrases that sometimes display a childish command of grammar even beyond his dragonet turn. Accented by odd beeps and chirps, his mental patterns may at times dismay or enchant with their oddity.

Itchyspots

Tip of his nose and all around his talons from all that flicking in and out.

Quick Personality

Well-meaning ball of imprudent energy who often causes trouble and accidents by mistake.

Dragon Inspiration

Stitch! The lovable outcast experiment 626 from the movie Lilo & Stitch and all of its spinoffs on DVD and TV. Stitch is a quirky, troublesome, naughty little blue alien created to be an unstoppable destructive force. Only thing is, he has a personality all of his own lying beneath what he was made for and there's a big heart there brought out by the love of a lonely little girl who's just as much a fish out of water as Stitch is. These characteristics have inspired your Kelerith, a veritable powerhouse of strength and agility in the air, with a propensity for getting into trouble, generally through well-meaning accidents. His physique, coloration and basic traits all harken back to Stitch and are meant to provide you with the balance you asked for in a partner for Eila: an outgoing, non-submissive dragon who will help draw her out, while her gentle influence helps temper his wilder moments. His name was chosen from your favorites for it's relation to Latin words for speed and quickness: celeritas.
